Hello and welcome to Let Me Bore You To Sleep. My name's Jason Newland and today is Monday the 30th of March 2026 and it is 1734 hours oh 534 for those not in the know not in the military like me okay technically the sea cadets isn't military and technically i haven't been in the sea cadets since i was 13 but forgetting all that it's 1723 25 25 you know what i'm just thinking what did i actually gain what knowledge did i gain from the sea cadets that i still have now and i'm just thinking because at the moment i have

been going through at the moment i mean last few weeks or so i've been going through my jason newland store and trying to kind of update all the recordings from the past i've just finished doing all of the let me bore your pain away ones so they're now all available to download all six versions when there are six versions available so they're all live available to download for free but i was just wondering have i talked about the sea cadets on my monday's boring objects because it doesn't look like i

did i know i've talked about it in the past but i don't think i've done it as a specific subject i'm just looking down i might have done but i don't remember so that's going to be today's recording i had no idea what i was going to talk about until i just mentioned the sea cadets randomly yeah so i just let you know i've not actually felt very well for a few days but um i think i'm coming out of it so i haven't made a recording since friday it's only

monday so it's not a long time is it i guess it is if you're waiting for a new recording to be honest i'm waiting for a new recording because i like to listen to my recordings now because they do send me to sleep and they relax me so it's kind of weird because i'm now a customer i'm now an avid listener which i didn't used to be and it's kind of like a it's more of a relaxation thing i just i drift i completely relax and fall asleep so i don't

want to listen to friday's recording anymore i want a new one so i have to make a new one but i also have to be careful when i make the recording because if i make it late at night i fall asleep if i make it early in the morning i fall asleep if i try and make it during the day or during the the morning part of the day like i don't know let's say between nine and three there's usually quite a lot of sound like outside there's building work going

on today downstairs are having their bathroom redone building there yeah it's being converted into a wet room i thought all bathrooms were wet rooms weren't they if you leave the tap running and don't ever open the windows it's just well it's technically it's mold but it's wet and of course there's the you know the people the voices and the dogs and stuff but in the morning first thing in the morning wow i literally i was doing a recording the other day and i listened back to it because i had to

i you know i had to listen to the whole thing pretty much when i edit um and i literally within two seconds went from talking like this to talking like this and then back again in about another four four seconds five seconds crazy it was just like i was in and out of consciousness because i was tired i'm yawning now but i'm just i was yawn when i start making recording vinny always starts to make noise it's a sort of a i think it kickstarts the household into a different kind

of rhythm of energy and then he suddenly wants to do stuff and i need to keep myself awake to make the recording it's weird the weird way it's see how can i make the most amount of noise right now he's a good boy the thing is earlier on he went around his mum's and we only went that we i thought i phoned her up just to see are you in um maybe go around have a coffee or whatever because really love seeing her but there's no answer so i just thought

well i'll take him out anyway because he has to go out this was about he already had his early morning one so he'd already been out about eight o'clock so this was his next one so it's about mid midday and it was raining and windy and i thought oh we both looked at each other and thought now let's let's at least let's ring on let's knock on the door and see if she's in because this this ain't nice and she was in which was handy and she literally just just called

me back on my phone so he went in there and she was expecting a visitor so i thought well i'll leave because she's got someone coming around so i just uh had a little chat and i said i can leave vinnie here if you want she said okay fair enough if you want because she loves being she loves having him he loves being there so i get home i get back here take my coat off take my gloves off take my hat off perhaps a little bit overdressed take my skis

off parachute maybe too much stuff on but you know it isn't technically it's that time of year where it's kind of officially it's summer time summer time um light wise you know because of the clocks going forward on saturday or sunday morning at one but it could also be any weather you know it snowed it could be snowing it could be it could be people be on a on the beach sunbathing it literally could be any kind of weather we don't have we don't have the predictability that some countries tend

to have really then because i know some places they have rainy season and it really rains like you know in thailand uh i think in india um in certain parts of the world when it rains it rains like rains like proper full-on harder than anything we'll ever see in this country it's just phenomenal rain where and it causes all kinds of stuff i'm kind of glad we don't have that here it's not to say we don't have rain we do have rain blimey well don't we all have rain oh and

sometimes it is like very hard and it's you know gals and really you know whatsoever weathery rainy stuff but at this time of year end of march beginning of april and april's tomorrow isn't it nope april's on wednesday because weird because there's been times when i've been visiting my dad well literally april it's been like summer in april other times it's been like winter uh you know the daffodils come out in march and then suddenly they like hide because it's snowing and they come out again a couple weeks later and

where i live we haven't had any actual snow not proper snow it settled one day and then disappeared within the day nothing since then and hasn't been any proper proper snow since the week i got vinny which is over three years ago it really it was heavy heavy snow really thick but again it lasted for about four or five days and then it disappeared rained one day and it was all gone that's when i slipped down the stairs to celebrate and there's no way of really knowing because this is a

time of year that i really like i like january not the actual month necessarily but i like the new year because it's it's new i just maybe it's because my name i just like new things maybe so it's new and shiny and it's like okay the possibilities are open and if you don't look at the headlines on the news you know i mean it's like okay good thing really good things could happen and i like so like the new year's eve i like new year's eve i kind of my birthday

in a way not so much now because of the age why you know it would be 56 in august 56 i'm literally a virgin again i didn't know that could happen went to the doctor he said oh don't worry about it i said i'm a bit worried about what's going on i said don't worry you're a virgin again everything just goes back inside your body it's fine you just revert back to being a child mentally and physically i said are you really a doctor and he said no i'm not i'm

a cleaner i said that was weird i don't really know what happened there and then when the doctor did come he said what are you doing going through my drawers i said i'm just looking to see if you have a stethoscope my spare one i can borrow so we don't lend stuff out he said have you got an appointment i said no and he said what's your name he looked on the computer screen i said well he said you're not even on our surgery why are you in here why is

the window open so like yeah i broke in none of that happened why am i saying that i don't know who knows no one knows really so i should let you know that i have two websites jasonnewland.com which is my podcast website and jason newland.store which is where all my recordings live or will live where you can download for free also have a Facebook page called or Facebook group called jason newland's boring group i'll have a YouTube channel as well and Let Me Bore You To Sleep or jason newland you

can find me there i am on all of the uh main podcast hosts and apps with my podcasts so and it's actually links on my website jasonnewland.com that can show you where my podcasts live online so if you want to Let Me Bore You To Sleep podcast is and just click on that and it'll show you where it is on the main podcasts apps because unfortunately there's been a few mishaps over the years and there's some on there that don't work but all of my all of my podcasts do actually

work it's just sometimes figuring out where they are which is partially my fault and partially my fault as well possibly a few errors along the way on my part and online and yeah just a few and i try to get the apps to delete the ones that aren't working but they won't i don't know why but they won't do it i tried to get apple podcasts to delete the ones i've got a big long list of ones that are pretty much not working anymore and from the part from years ago

hundreds of years ago and they don't seem to get rid of them um but everything is pretty much working okay now so it's a case of you know once you find it it should be fine and i did have a few blips and blops a few weeks ago or months ago now maybe beginning of the year but that's all been sorted so it should everything should be fine now and every time i release a new recording i also upload them onto my store so you can download them for free and

i'm also on soundcloud as well so i'm all over the place i'm glad i mixed that in with the like talking because that's such a such a boring introduction did i say only listen when you can safely close your eyes i hope i did i hope so i really do or do what do i do and so i was going to talk about um the sea cadets but at the same time i kind of want to talk about yeah i kind of want to talk about like this time of the

year as well so but what i'm going to do is if i go to home on my store click on oh let me pull your pain away so short voice only they're all on there what we got 44 recordings short voice only short music only there is 43 recordings long voice only there's 43 i think the rest of 43 only did one version of the 44 i will i can correct that in the future uh long music wait a minute oh okay that's weird long voice only short voice only long

voice only long music okay and that's 43 and the same for overnight voice only 43 recordings and overnight music 43 so they're all available to download for free so if you go to the home page of the store jasonuland.store and it's the third one along he got Let Me Bore You To Sleep deep sleep whisper hypnosis and let me pull your pain away that's the third one along so i've now started working on the sleepy boring objects although i do call them monday sleepy boring objects when i do this but

they're not not really specific to monday on the podcast but so i've got short voice only all the way up to overnight music but the only one that's actually working link if you click on is the short voice only and i have i don't know how many i have 63 63 recordings that you can download for free so there's quite a few different topics i've talked about so far um the first one i did was rain then i did hair bricks big pink piggy bank big pink big pink pig piggy

bank okay because i i actually had a big pink piggy bank but it broke that's years ago and number five was printers then cameras then plugs pizza swim pools cheese hitchhiking i'm not sure what point i started thinking what am i going to do next ovens books goldfish microphones so then it's maps wallpaper train spotters gamers no games beds hats jobs baths wooden benches belgium shoes punch bags glasses boxing nlp airports and was it the next 16 is doggies painting baked beans karate tea bags grease christmas cleaning homes not cleaning

homes but homes separate um listeners reviews willy wonka office works office work schools it's more of a k dog walking buddhist book entrepreneur and then a final i don't know how many there are was it 4 8 16 is biscuits karate so i did karate twice oh it's interesting not really but interesting maybe bodybuilding short shoes favorite 80s songs tea bags i already did tea bags didn't i i think this is muddled up diaries posters tape recordings now i've got two there which are the same um one it says what

what have i learned that's my monday's boring objects i've got two of the same picture but two different recordings so i'm gonna have to look into these to find out what they're actually what they are then i've got snowmen boy bands stand up and just a sleepy boring object or monday's boring objects that's weird because tea bags twice i mean i know it's an interesting subject but why would i do it twice i did talk about tea bags didn't i earlier on yes 1191 tea bags tea bags 36 but it's

the same picture okay so that can be removed karate 35 5 karate 1389 karate that's weird but that's a different picture so i think i've done two recordings on karate should i do a third one on tea bags wow so before i go any further with those on the store organizing i need to organize that first page that first list into groups so it's all organized that's going to take ages and ages and ages and ages but once it's done it's done and then i can just copy over and do

the other four five groups you know with music without music five or different hours and stuff sometimes i think maybe i should just do the ones without music and leave the rest but somebody did ask me they said what about the long ones and what about the long ones with music and a couple of people have asked me that and once someone asks me i know that well i don't know but i figured that if one person asks then there's other people possibly probably thinking the same thing so i take

it on board and i try and make those changes and that's why i want to get feedback that maybe the podcast isn't working or the there's no audio from a recording i've just done i i take it seriously and i get on it straight away to see whether or not it's it's not always my end sometimes it is the other person's computer or the phone but quite often it is something that i need to fix once it's fixed it's done so i appreciate that because then i can well it's i

don't want to put out stuff that it's not listed listenable to other than my voice obviously my grinding squeaky voice so i was going to talk about we'll talk about the sea cadets i can't believe i've never spoken about the sea cadets before in a monday's boring objects monday's sleepy boring objects oh i find it very very very hard to believe if i'm honest i watched the boxing saturday because i talked about it friday that i was going to be watching wow it was a night of the the main bill

had seven fights and it was also i think three on the prelims so it started at three o'clock went on till about 11 but the main bill started at five seven fights and i think i think only one went the different went the distance did it go yeah one went the distance and the main fight was brilliant the moses atalma against jermaine franklin was a great fight it one-sided but still from a skills perspective he's just so good so good and every time i see him it's like he's getting better

he probably is getting better it's yeah it's so it's something um post fight interview he someone said oh you look like you were angry he said do you feel i was angry he felt i was um not angry do you feel i was i was being vicious that's it something like that and his trainer and the manager laughed because apparently you know we've only just touched the tip of the iceberg for what he is capable of doing and he didn't you know other than the first round he did he put

a lot of effort into the round and he was breathing a bit hard but then he kind of calmed down the pace went five rounds but he just took his time and i think he got hit back twice in five rounds i mean i was at 3 6 9 12 15 minutes although the fifth round didn't go the whole distance but he was in a ring with someone trying to punch him and he only only took like three punch but two punches probably two clean punches maybe one clean ass you

know i mean there's something to be said for people that slug it out you got two fighters and they were just going for it that is exciting for i think for a boxing audience and that is sometimes kind of what i would say i like to see like a full-on war you know full-on not going at each other but when you got someone who's so skillful they're not even taking a punch but they're but they're not avoiding it you know i mean like you got someone let's say you got Mayweather

in his later days his later years he almost like the perfect fighter Floyd Mayweather when he was actively boxing is his defense his speed um a bit you know agility around the ring i mean that's why he was undefeated and that's why he was a huge star but there's uh something about Atalma he's got that plus the knockout he he's i don't know the speed is there but the power is also there i know power can come from speed but you know every i've watched every single one of his fights

he's only had i think 14 fights but i watched every single one of them and and he was like 19 or 18 when he first started 18 19 and i wasn't sure when i first saw him i thought he was good but he wasn't the main person on the bill he's and he was on the bill with his brother i think having a fight elsewhere you know like i think his brother just lost the fight and he had to go on afterwards and that's why i kind of it kind of

became my focus because i thought that's got to be hard to make your debut in a ring when your brother has just lost his fight maybe not just before but like you know a couple of fights before that's got to be and they were probably sharing the changing room as well so yeah that you'd imagine that'd be quite a bit off-putting a bit distracting but it wasn't or at least it didn't seem to be you're right i should make a podcast for boxing shouldn't i the boring bog the boring boxing

podcast do you think i can't help it i just i don't mean to talk about boxing but it is one of the few things i actually i'm interested in just yeah yeah it was so good though that skill it was yeah i'm trying to think of a heavyweight so i've my two favorite heavyweights at the moment is Moses Atalma and Fabio Wardley i still think that Usyk is he's he is the top of the pile he's the one with most of the belts unbeaten and there's no you know i wouldn't

i wouldn't bet against him ever but he's not i mean he is exciting like he was exciting in his fight when he against Dubois but and his exciting moments but because he's he's a technician and you know he had two fights with joshua two fights with tyson fury two fights with um what's his name uh Dubois now he he knocked out Dubois twice not in the same ring not same night but two different types two different occasions but i don't think he's had any other knockouts in heavyweight i don't think

he did because he got took the distance by Derek Chisora and i think he might got took the distance or nearly by the first person he fought which was Witherspoon was it Reece Witherspoon when he went up to heavyweight from cruiserweight so he's very much a kind of like a 12-round fighter although he did he nearly put Tyson Fury now but somehow Tyson managed to keep up i mean he was literally falling on the ropes and at the very least the referee should have not maybe not stopped it but just

given him time like counted him giving him a standing count that's what he should have had i think within the rules i think he should have had a standing count which would have docked a point off of him but if anything it probably would have given him a chance to kind of recover himself and which i think he needed but yeah um i don't want to see Fabio Wadley or Moses fight each other genuinely i don't i don't want to see that because i'm a fan of both of them and

there's so many other heavyweights out there that are well known and also loads coming through that we never hear about for some reason i mean if you go online watch YouTube watch the you know australian fighters coming through new zealand fighters there's new british fighters coming through there's new american fighters coming through that are young heavyweights but they're not getting well they're not getting hyped up here i mean they might be getting hyped up in their own country which i'm sure they are so it's at the moment all the big

fighters have been kind of fighting each other which is good so i'd quite like to see even though fabio wadley has got daniel dubois in may that's going to be a cracker i don't know i really don't know what to make of that one um i don't think daniel dubois can take fabio wadley's punches and fabio has shown no sign he hasn't hardly blinked that any punch he's ever took but i don't think he's been in with a puncher like daniel dubois i think daniel's probably the biggest puncher one of

the biggest in the industry the industry the sport so i wanna i'll be very interested to see the outcome of that really interested and tyson fury's fighting so this weekend coming derek chisora and wilder are fighting each other and the weekend after tyson fury is fighting for the first time in years so he's doing a comeback against quite a big name actually in the heavyweight division um and then you've got dave allen is fighting herkovich i'm not quite sure what date that is but that's not far away either probably about

six weeks away five weeks away and and then fabio wadley against daniel dubois yeah that's that apparently six weeks away from last weekend so that'll be yeah may so quite a lot of boxing coming up over the next month or two which is good i'll tell you what i'd like to see i'd like the have a bill of all the young'uns all the newbies newbie heavyweights not necessarily fighting each other because they might not want to you know because if they're only just starting out their promoters might want to feed

them like people that they know they're going to beat which i understand but it's frustrating to see that but it's kind of a learning process isn't it but maybe those that have had a few fights perhaps an unbeaten like an unbeaten heavyweight tournament not tournament but like a you know a night there's a heavyweight from all the different countries coming together all the ones that like early 20s unbeaten maybe had five six seven fights and just have that night as an introduction to these people because some of them the british

audience won't know about some of them the american audience won't know about and there's probably heavyweights in italy spain france africa maybe india who knows that we just haven't heard about but they're they're really good and this will give them an opportunity to kind of be on a big i say the big screen the like a big bill also see for me i was find i think well if i was a promoter get fighters you know try and promote and build up fires in countries where the audience is huge and

that's that's what they do in america for um mexican boxers because they know that if they if they get a mexican star and they get it on prime time tv like a boxing channel or whatever millions upon millions of people are going to watch it because mexico loved their boxing so i like chavez and um canelo that's it canelo among a few others like huge huge you know i imagine yeah chavez is probably the biggest probably the most famous mexican boxers ever i imagine because he had like nearly 100 fights

without being beaten wow he did if you don't know who chavez is sounds like a freedom fighter doesn't he chavez chavez hugo chavez newly okay it was a politician okay if i put in boxer chavoz chavez boxer boxer right uh julio scissor chaser chavez he i remember how old is he 63 so he's not old not now now that i'm 55 in his career he had 115 fights he won 107 lost six 86 he won by knockout 21 by decision and he had two draws now for the first and i

remember this because i didn't know who he was really but i remember his he was getting up to the hundredth fight and if we go back what's it doing right he won he had to have 41 fights before he won a world title so he he won the wbc super featherweight title 1984 that's weird because i'm pretty sure i remember him like in the late 80s and he was coming up to his hundredth fight that doesn't make sense unless he was fighting like every month wow according to this he was

fighting quite regularly so his hundredth fight was right he'd already lost one two he'd lost twice but he got to 90 90 so he won 90 fights oh it's 1994 when he lost for the first time okay so he won 90 what he drew but he had 90 fights unbeaten and multiple i mean i don't know how many world titles he had during that time 90 fights unbeaten i don't know if anyone i don't know if anyone's done that and then he lost his fight he lost his belts to frankie

randall on a split decision and then he won it back again like from against frankie randall in 1994 that's so annoying isn't it so he could have if he'd have won that fight the first time round he'd have been unbeaten all the way up to fight 98 oh man and then he fought Oscar de la Hoya in 1996 who was a phenomenon a phenomenal phenomenon a phenomenon Oscar de la Hoya so he lost that fight by TKO and that was i mean that's something that no one would have expected but

Oscar was a force the golden boy they called him he was a force to be reckoned with and then he came back and he did fight he had a few more fights he did fight for the vacant WBC light welterweight title but it was a draw in 98 and he fought again for the WBC welterweight title against Oscar de la Hoya but he retired he retired him so he couldn't fight on and he lost a few fights along the road on this one and then he fought Kosta Su who was

again a bit of a legend at the time for the WBC light welterweight championship this is in 2000 and then he went on but he lost he didn't win that one got knocked out there and his last fight was against someone called Grover Willey he fought two Willeys there was a Willie Wise as well he fought Willie Wise twice so if he he went on all the way to 2005 which is 20 years ago what 21 years ago which means he would have been 42 when he stopped 42 years old

when he quit well you know when he stopped boxing I don't think you really call it quitting can you if you've been fighting forever when he retired and his first fight was 1980 so if 25 years no 80 90 2000 did I say 2005 didn't I yes 8 25 years yeah 25 years wow it's all the different belts he won why are you telling me this I don't know I'm not sure really I'll be honest he did have a few exhibition boxing fights afterwards one was in 2021 which meant he'd

have been 60 mind you Mike Tyson was in the ring when he recently and he's nearly 60 at the time Hector Camacho jr was the opponent another like big star of the past so his titles that he had where were they so he had the w wbc super featherweight championship wba light welterweight like no lightweight championship wbc lightweight world championship the ring linear championship wbc light welterweight championship ibf light welterweight championship and the wbc light welterweight championship he held all those different belts that's like seven and he was the ring

pound for pound um number one boxer between february 12 1990 and september the 5th 1993 so that's pretty good preceded by Mike Tyson and then taken over by Pernell Whitaker there were so many good fighters back then I remember the it's weird the very first fight I saw of Chavez was the one where he lost terrible now because it was um and it was the I guess Frankie Randall wasn't it yeah Frankie Randall because they were really expecting him because he was he lost in the 91st fight so the big

thing was will he get to 100 fights and will he fight Willy or Willy Wong or Frankie Willy which Willy will he fight if he does fight to 100 will he get there and he fought against someone then he won the fight he won the next fight so he technically could have got to 98 and if he wanted to get to 100 he could have took easier fights literally he could have said oh I'm just going to take us take three months off or six months off I'll give the belt

up I'll come back and win it again and and just say well let's come and do a couple of warm-up fights and get to the hundred I mean warm-up fights for him would have been you know future world champions and ex-world champions because he was so so good at what he did it wouldn't have been um Bobby that carries the milk jugs around I don't know who Bobby is Vinnie what do you want mate he's hassling me now your food's down there your water's down there how boring must it be

to just have water all the time that is what I drink most of the time but it's not really fair is it they can't drink coke they can't have they can't have beer can you they want to lick me okay what is it on my face that tastes so nice nothing I imagine oh yes um I get back put my coat on but take my coat off and Vinnie is at the door with um my friend's son and apparently her friend has come around is allergic to dogs allergic to dogs

so yeah he had to come back and she sent me a message saying sorry my friend's allergic to dogs and I said yeah me too I don't know it's like the thing is if she's allergic to dogs wouldn't she be coughing and because Vinnie's been over everything in that flat especially the sofa his hairs are everywhere but fair enough I don't know I've never been allergic to a dog before apart from this one oh I really don't know what you want Vin you're hassling me but there's no reason for you

to be hassling me is there there's no reason I don't know why you're doing it so to this fill a sea cadets I was about 11 years old probably 11 I don't think I was allowed to join or maybe I wasn't allowed to join till I was 11 10 I yeah it might be net so I was maybe I lose track of the time to be honest I think I was about 10 wasn't allowed to join till I was 11 but I went in there at 10 probably in the summer

during summer holidays and I was in there went in there with my friend to the sea cadets and we were just walking around like I wonder what's in there so we went in there and they let us in and they said we you're not allowed to come in till you're 12 but we'll let you in but we won't charge you your subs which was like 50 pence a week or something so we didn't have to pay anything but as soon as I reached 11 I had to pay 50 pence a

week and so I went home I had to take a letter home or whatever to a parents and I told them about it and they I don't think they didn't fit me up with a uniform or anything until I was 11 but I went along and I was just doing it in my trousers and everything you know we track suits or whatever and I don't I can't say I liked it but it was something to do it was something different it was it was getting out of the house it was

a laugh there were times when it was very funny you know and I was around other kids from both schools that's something I quite liked because both the I was literally just about to start high school but I was also around kids from both both because there's two high schools in my in my town and I like that because same when I do in the karate when I was 13 I was around kids from both the high schools because there's a bit of a rivalry between the two the other school

was bigger than my one and always the way everyone's bigger than me and I like knowing people the other kids from other schools it's this is quite cool and I suppose I've got to know friends from school a bit better through the sea cadets and I wouldn't have got to know them otherwise because they might not have associated with me when I was at school I don't know I just it was something to do something to do it seemed quite cool at the time it was much more fun when I

didn't have to wear a uniform but I didn't like the shouting I thought the shouting was a little bit silly there's a lot of shouting you know attention left turn march uh what is it stop marching whatever it's left right left right right left right left right right there and I I don't know I kind of got stuck there to be honest I wasn't planning to see it through you know I wasn't going there to build a career in the army in the navy I wasn't I wasn't gonna go there

until I left school and then go into the army which some people did do and it's a it's definitely a great um it's a great way to to be in the army because you've got so much experience within the army kind of lifestyle and the the knots and I don't know the different things that the sea cadets teaches which was interesting like fire safety and how to start a fire it's quite weird isn't it how to start a fire and how to put one out and one of those is probably

not a good idea to teach me that's why it's weird because I went to this when I was working in the counseling place they had the firefighters like um fire safety come around this was about 2011 and I remember fire safety because I've done it three times in person I did it in the sea cadets I also did it when I went to catering college so you have to learn about fire extinguishers and um how to use them and I I was trying to point out to the person doing the

instruction because they they didn't actually start a fire but they put they did like in a yard and I said um wouldn't it be better if you you shone it I shone it if you squirted the water because it's like a water one against the wall so it splashes back over the fire rather than spreading the fire out and he said who's who's the boss here me or you I said neither of us it's her over there she's the boss if you don't think so just just try and get on

the wrong side of her he said I don't work here I'm I'm the boss of the fire department I said really you're the king are you are you the boss of everything everyone that's involved in fire I don't know why I just don't think he took to me he didn't didn't take to me and it was weird learning this stuff again and I'm still not sure which colors what I know red is white red is you know but there's one you're not supposed to touch well you have to touch it

to pick it up but it'll it'll peel your fingers off if you touch it but luckily I've not had to had to use them I don't think so I set a few off probably at school but I haven't of course I didn't yeah sure of course I didn't no I've never pressed the fire alarm once nope of course I haven't nope I mean I don't know it's it wasn't it wasn't a daily thing but it's no fun if it's every day is it especially when it's raining like I never did

it I used to try and do it without it's like it's a way of doing this without the plastic breaking there's a way of stretching the plastic keep pushing it in pushing it in so that it comes out a little bit further out so then the knob comes out and that'll start the alarm off and no one will know what's triggered it because all the fire alarms will be like unbroken that's the kind of stuff I would think about when I was doing maths it's uh don't ask me about fractions

ask you about my new invention my new tool to just anything to be naughty I wasn't naughty really I just it's boredom real boredom it was I want to I want to do something that's interesting to me not to anyone else just to me and I found stuff but I had to find it myself you know I never no one's ever had well apart from I was gonna say no one's ever handed me an interest not that we should get handed interests but I've not had one passed down and some

people are like absolutely crazy about football because maybe their one of their parents took them to football every Saturday and now they're crazy about it themselves but it's not really their interest is it it's something they've kind of learned they've associated it with a good feeling uh but may I don't know whatever it is but and they might be absolutely passionate about it but it's not it's not necessarily something they've found for themselves I wanted to find something for myself my oldest brother loved football I could have gone that route

and like yeah and eventually perhaps loved it but I didn't want to be like him I wanted to be like me I want to find out what I wanted to do what I enjoyed and you know I discovered that I loved boxing but that was about 1985 1984 yeah about 1984 85 time and that was the yeah just when I had my black and white tv I had the I was able to watch what I wanted to watch on telly at night when I should have been asleep but even early

evening it was just I had control of the telly because the only time really when I was a kid that I ever had control of the telly was during the kids programs maybe on a TV show Saturday morning or after school because nobody else wanted to watch them apart from me and maybe my little brother as he got a bit older my other brothers were all too old they weren't interested um when well they were you know at one point they were but thinking back to when we moved to that

house I was nine and my other brother was 11 my other brother was 13 so neither of those were interested in watching play school after school I was they didn't want to watch blue peter they wanted to be out with their friends and stuff I wanted to watch blue peter I wanted to watch Grange Hill you know that's what I wanted to do all into my 20s in fact I don't care I liked I liked it so not not Grange Hill so much but I used to watch biker's grove in

the early 90s and that was not aimed at me at all was it in the early 90s was it late 80s I'm not sure wow I'm still not sure biker's grove backers backers backers grove bikers grove cast 1989 to 2006 okay Jill Halfpenny was in it I didn't know Jill Halfpenny was in it that I did not know that Chelsea Halfpenny I wonder if she's related how weird would that be two actresses with the same surname Halfpenny which is definitely a I'm not saying it's a weird surname but it's not

the most usual surname is it it's a distinguishable name it's the same full cast let's have a look Halfpenny was a cast member that I was in love with so I was in my late teens when I started Declan that's it war no who was it I don't know Gwena Sage I'm sure it's one of the Meryl Meryn Cumming I wonder if that's her real name just you can imagine like in the classroom everyone's surname is being shouted out and you have to say yes or should a doctor surgery nurse

comes out of hospital are you coming Matt Bloom Paul Annett Gwena Sage are those directors come on I know directors are important but no one really cares that's terrible isn't it it's the stars isn't it the ones on the screen they're the ones that everyone gets excited about so Jill Halfpenny was in 47 episodes and altogether it looks like there was 100 episodes oh Declan was in 57 episodes how weird ah got it because it went on to 2006 Declan I love you Declan Declan was only in it for until

2000 so it's 96 no wait a minute 96 to 2003 no that's not right this is wrong I was going to say 90s it went on to 2003 96 late 90s it started in late 80s so that's weird so let's have a look and Declan Geordie oh come on Patricia why are they not putting his face on there because he's the most famous him in deck so he was in it Antony McPartland was in it from 1990 to 2000 he wasn't though and Declan Donnelly was in it from 89 to

2000 no surely not maybe I just have a memory here's my memory is Ant and Dec were on tv in the 90s not the 2000s in the 90s doing their tv shows so let's have a look Antony McPartland what year did he do his 1997 because they did two shows on a Saturday morning once was one was something and the other was like a music show a tribute to okay Ant and Dec they also sung songs why are they missing out something that was right this is there's something wrong here

let me have a look now I didn't make it up I know that they were both doing they did a tv show with Cat Deely it's basically a comedy show it was like a Saturday morning for kids but also for adults as well if that makes sense it's like it's funny it's really really good fun I think I might have got the wrong the wrong years filmography filmography right Bikers Grove 90 to 93 that's why right okay so he went back in it in 2000 for some reason Bikers Grove so

he left in 93 I knew I was it's not about being right it's more important to be happy but on this it's this occasion being right has made me happy so between 95 and 97 they had a tv show called the Ant and Dec show they also guest presented the Big Breakfast what I remember them is 98 2001 so yeah it was okay it was late 90s but SMTV live and SMTV live and kicking and it had and then CDUK which was directly afterwards which was the charts so if we

go to click on SMTV live so live and kicking and in deck Cat Deely Brian Dowling he was on there was he Tess Daly Claire Richards basically it was a bunch of people it's this is what it seemed like a bunch of friends young famous people having a laugh Cat Deely was brilliant in it and I'm so surprised she didn't go on to acting or some kind of comedy because I know she's done is it dancing on ice or something in America and she you know she did all that but

she was so funny yeah she was so funny in that show and so Ant and Dec they were just the three of them it was such a great mix I don't know if they were in it the whole time because it ran for maybe longer than they were in it was it wonky donkey I remember there was something like that Ant and Dec oh it was just one of those things where they had like celebrity guests kids in the audience it was it was really just another version really of Tis

Was or any of the other TV shows that were for kids on a Saturday morning that were a bit crazy and fun it's just they had different presenters and it was done a little bit different if anything this was probably more like the big breakfast that we used that we had on Channel 4 in the mornings which was a much better way to get up to wake up to people with energy to wake up to the news the Channel 4 big breakfast it was yeah I didn't get to see much

of it though because it would start I think it was it 6.30 or did it start at six I think it started at six and I started my job at I think I had to be at my job at seven or maybe 7.30 so I didn't I didn't get to watch the whole show but it was still a nice start to the day you know I think what I try and do is get ready for work and then have my breakfast while I was watching it so I when I was

in the Sea Cadets I don't know what Finn is doing he's looking he's looking for something to be naughty with I could always tell always looking for something I was I suppose there was the excitement of the new there was the the interest of I wasn't interested in anything to do with the Sea Cadets but my parents seemed to be happy that I was doing it and that was always a good thing you know they kind of seemed pleased that I was doing this thing playing dress-up and so that's what

I just continued doing and some of it was fun at the carnival every year the carnival for a couple of years I was marching along one year I was playing the drums maybe the bugle blocking spill depends what I had so I did three different instruments I mean to be I don't know how they put up with it I don't know how my family put up with me because all the instruments happened during a short period of my life it's during um well not a short period but like from the

age of nine nine and ten I played the violin and between 11 and or 11 and 13 I played the bugle the drum and the glocking spill I can imagine how noisy the bugle was and the violin but the bugle blimey I remember when I said that I decided to change it to a different instrument the whole house just took a sigh just sighed when I say that I don't mean the people I'm talking the actual house the building itself just sighed out like for the foundation just settled for the

first time in months weird feeling it must have been awful because we had someone living over the over the fence a few years back who's playing the trumpet oh it was hard it's very hard on my ears and I try and be supportive and I do especially knowing that I was in that I've never been supportive no especially when I'm in that situation I've been in that situation myself making an absolute mess out of sound it was awful and I figured out how to do really well in a live situation

when it was a band especially if we was in a band and it was something like Trafalgar Day which was in London and you'd have sea cadets from all over the country all playing the bugle at the same time I realized I didn't have to do anything I could just like make my pump my cheeks up like a little gerbil filled with nuts and just no one's gonna know that I'm not playing the bugle apart from the person who's standing in front of me and let's face it they're not gonna

complain are they at no point they're gonna say stop stop stop everyone stop Jason behind me is not playing the bugle right into my earlugs they're not gonna complain they're gonna be happy so I realized there were times when I didn't even have to play it which kind of defeats the object doesn't it but there were times when I did you know especially when there's only like one me playing it or two of us playing it because there wasn't there was not a lot of people playing the trumpet or the

bugle I mean it's only a couple of us or maybe three of us I remember the tune now so this is one of my happiest memories of the sea cadets at the end of the night so we get there probably about seven finished about nine and at the end of the night the flag would go down I feel so sorry for the neighbors that lived there there were next door neighbors to the thing how could they put up with the noise all the shouting and the marching and stuff but anyway

there was a bugle we would play it and the flag would go down slowly which meant it was the end of the evening and we could go home we could be released and that's the part I'd look forward to most other than break time when we could eat chocolate go to tuck shop that was the bit I liked the most is and it goes down like the last one is and that was the end of the evening and that was the part I looked forward to most before I even got

there I was looking forward to the end then when I started thinking maybe I should do something different I did ask my dad long before I quit the sea cadets like I want to go I want to do karate and he said no he didn't want me to do it he didn't want me doing anything that involves aggression anything like that didn't he just for some reason he didn't want me to do anything like that but when I did start I did yes did start doing karate when I was 13

and it was too late really because there was there was a little period where I could kind of do what I wanted and I just did I grabbed that opportunity and I got into the karate I left the sea cadets and I got because I kept asking to leave and I wasn't allowed to leave the sea cadets and then there was a little break should we say in the family the family modality and I took that opportunity to break away from the sea cadets and then I found karate I didn't

leave the sea cadets to do karate I just left the sea cadets to get away from it and then my friend at school Stefan he said I'm gonna go and go to karate tonight and see my brother because brother has just died I would be there for a couple of weeks and his brother was like raving about it and I'm just gonna go and watch and I said can I come along he said no so I made my way there I did he gave me a lift I think we went

there and uh well his dad I mean his dad gave me a lift or we might have just walked up to be fair it wasn't a long not long journey anyway we sat on the the side of the gym because there was one side of the gym where all the do you know those big wooden benches that you jump over and stuff like that in the gym they were all stacked on top of each other so we sat on them and we watched his brother and everyone else so we were

there the whole time I think we got there it would already started but we got there probably about half seven or whatever and uh we just went and walked and stood you know sat down quietly so his brother was doing it what else was there was the toughest kid one of the toughest kids in my school was there as well who was best friends with his brother but he was like he was one of these like tough tough tough kids that was tougher than a lot of the kids that older

you know he was just one of them and it was really weird because he's always been like a tough kid but he wasn't very good at karate it was weird seeing because it just started and his movement no one's good when they start but I always knew him as being like this super super fighter and he clearly didn't like karate because he stopped doing it I never saw him again after that I saw him at school but I didn't see him doing karate and my friend's brother still continued so I

fell in love with it straight away loved it so find out when it was I think this might have been the Tuesday night and then the Thursday night me and him went back again this time his brother was there as well and I became friends with his brother as well so we were doing a karate we did it I don't know how long we was there at the same time because me and my friend Stefan we used to practice during break time kicking and punching each other and do all that

messing around and then he stopped doing it for some reason these I think he lost interest or he just didn't want to do it so he he stopped I continued and yeah and his brother was really good and yeah so that's kind of the only thing probably I did in my childhood as far as an outside activity an activity outside of school or activity outside of home that I loved was the karate yeah that was I mean you could say oh you could go against what I said earlier like I've

never been handed an interest technically that was my friend's interest and I went along with him however I've been interested I was interested in martial arts since I was a child because of you know the 70s kung fu on TV and there was you know Bruce Lee so I was I was well interested long before I ever did it I just wasn't allowed to do it yeah I think my dad might have just been concerned I'd get hurt because I was the size of a pea I was tiny he probably

didn't want me to get injured that's probably what it really was but I kind of like it annoyed me because my dad was a brown belt in judo when he was at school and he was 14 and a half stone when he was at school he was a big big lad and he grew up to be a big man I mean but he was adult size when he was at school and he did judo so and he brownish just below black so he'd clearly spent a few years quite a few

years doing judo so doing a martial arts but he didn't want me to do martial arts I didn't didn't really understand it but maybe it's because I wasn't 14 and a half stone like him I was I mean when I left school I was eight and a half when I was doing karate there's a picture of me on one of my podcast images with my karate gi on my little karate suit I think I'm holding the nunchucks as well or nunchuckers I probably didn't weigh more than about six stone maybe

seven stone there can you imagine I'm seven stone my dad was about double my size when he was at that age it's kind of yeah maybe he did think before I started doing it that I'd get hurt but I didn't I did but I didn't you know you have to you have to take punches and kicks and stuff and get knocked over and it's standard it's this you know we sparred every every night we sparred with everyone and some of the big bigger lads would take advantage and you know be

a bit forceful with me and others would be nice but I always get my own back there's one this really tall kid and he was I think he was a brown belt just coming up to his black belt and he was in the sixth form and I was in fourth year probably so he was two two three years older than me and he was about six oh that's six six I was about five probably about five six then and I was you know he was skinny so he probably didn't weigh

a lot but he was super fit so he still weighed a lot more than I did and for some reason you think his legs were taller than me honestly his legs just just so tall and he kept kicking me over I couldn't get close to him so and I couldn't get to his face I couldn't I couldn't even reach his face with my fists because he was so tall no way a leg or a foot was going to get anywhere near him he kept putting me on the floor and I

got a bit annoyed so I accidentally went for the only place possible and he learned his lesson because you know I was so much shorter than him and I accidentally punched him in the wrong place and kicked him in the wrong place and I kept doing it over and over again accidentally because I was so short and he was so tall and I kept saying I'm sorry I don't know what's happening I just accidentally keep getting you there and he's literally on the floor crying oh yeah oh it was good

it was funny I don't think he found it funny but had to be done you know I wouldn't normally do that but actually the fact is if you learn a martial art it's about defending yourself and protecting yourself and if you've got someone in training that's actually taking advantage of you which he was he was you know taking advantage of the size difference and then you've got a kind of the whole point of defense is to do something to even out the odds and there's a whole thing is that we're

all the same size lying down all the same size after being kicked in the balls it's the same it's that kind of thing it's um I can't believe it this is supposed to be relaxing is this a sleep recording he's talking about being picked in the balls what's he talking about I'm sorry I'm sorry ah the new okay um the things I liked about the Suikoden so let's let's go for the positives here the things I liked about it apart from the ending when I got to get home go home

um tuck shop I like that I did make some friends I did I did make some friends that I just laughed a lot I did laugh a so I can't completely um I can't be I mean I know I've got a tendency to be a little bit negative towards it but I did have a laugh not with the officers but with the other kids usually people that were new because they didn't you know sometimes people once they started getting graded up they took themselves a little bit more seriously they could

tell me what to do because I was still like well here's the thing right I took me two years to get to a junior seaman which was the very first badge most people in two years would get to the top badge there was like able seaman or something like that like they would and they'd have like stripes on their shoulders I honestly every single I think it was like once I don't know if it was once a month I think it was a friday tuesday and a friday I think was

it a monday and a friday at the sea cadets and it was this big hall big big hall and when it's raining it's really bad weather we'd march inside there and do stuff and there was a there was two hut two big huts I feel quite nostalgic about it now because it probably was good times I just didn't realize it was probably really enjoyable I just forgot to enjoy it and so I said I liked the little hut where all the chocolate and stuff was that was good I like that

a lot especially in the summer when the winter was good because we could stay in there and get sheltered but in the summer it was nice just to chill you know so in the other hut was more is where stuff was done so it'd be quite a big big hut we practice things like knot making and fire safety and just health and safety first aid all things like that that you would kind of learn in any of the cadet corps you probably get the same with the scouts with the brownies

the fire cadets if there's one in such a thing the the army cadets are the air cadets so I mean that was interesting we practice making like things for arms broken arms and stuff with bits sticks and stuff and I remember I did one I had to do my friend and the instructor came around and said no you need more than just a twig and we laughed he didn't laugh but I laughed and sometimes we just could not stop laughing me and the person I was with there's one particular kid

but I think he was from the other high school and we could not stop laughing we couldn't be together without laughing hysterically but we never saw each other outside of the sea cadets and then he left I mean technically we could have been best mates but he went to a different high school he lived in a different part of the town and it was a little town it's really weird but he yeah it's such a good time sometimes but other times it's too much shouty shouty shouty it was Newland what

are you doing over there why are you going through people's bags I didn't go through people's bags I don't want to say stuff like that Newland put your put your put your pants back on you know that's when we were marching Vinnie what are you doing thing is I've got no treats for you I can't get you any treats at the moment there's nothing I have to wait till Wednesday sorry no Thursday not Wednesday Thursday you got food down there eat it seriously I'm not getting you any more until you

eat that might sound harsh not as harsh as this I'm not getting any more that sounds harsher so I did um Vinnie's now listening out for stuff aren't you you want trying to find something to to bark at he loves barking when he gets bored like this because now seven o'clock so he's looking for something to be distracted by I think he's really trying to kind of focus in on something that can trigger his manic barking because I can see his ears twitching but there is nothing going on I mean

I do need to take him out so perhaps I need to finish this so I can take him for a walk is that what you want it Vinnie is it you want to go for a walk yeah okay okay um I'm not I'm I see cadets is all right it was there was that kind of trying to learn to socialize with people and I never really got the hang of it but at least I gave it a go I suppose um but I did get to know lots of other kids

which I thought is quite good in itself just even if they weren't friends they'd know me you know I'd be like a friendly face or they'd be a friendly face to me so that was nice and yeah I think it was like every month they'd have a an award ceremony where they'd hand out people's badges normally people would become a junior seaman I think that was the first one junior seaman within about a month or two took me two years because I was naughty I just didn't play along with the

rules and it got it became a laughing thing became almost like a joke the fact that did I start saying nothing for you Jason or nothing for you Newland and people would laugh they stopped even saying that and then when they started you know when it came to reading out who's next people started looking at me thinking oh is this the time is this is this the time he gets it I even I started thinking maybe maybe it is time I got one and then on the night I did get

it they literally because I took longer to get my first badge than anybody had ever taken in the history of the sea cadets apparently like ever not just like in that town but in the history the 200 year history of sea cadets or whatever it was no one had taken two years to get their very first badge so I I was down as like famous but I always wanted to be famous not for that though and when they called me out the place erupted I think they even had party streamers

or something I don't know I might make that up and they hoisted me up and put their shoulders and there was a parade in the street and they were literally the whole you could hear them because it was like those people it was a mixture of like hurrah hurray well done and laughter because it had been an ongoing joke for so long and you could hear the building sigh yeah the actual building if you still listen now you can still hear them cheering 40 years later they're still cheering 42 years

later they're still cheering because it was such an amazing event absolutely ridiculous they wouldn't give it to me and I think in the end I got one and took it back off me because I was naughty the next week it's uh what was weird is I put up with so much in that because they'd get people that used to be in the sea cadets that went into the navy and then it'd be out on leave maybe they had a few weeks or maybe they left the navy they did their term

and then they'd come and they'd maybe spend a bit of time or maybe they're on leave and they came over and they'd spend the evening there and start yelling at us there's a few of those that were coming one particular proper little shouty man he was and there was this alleyway opposite that we used to march up and down with rifles as well which were very heavy and like yeah heavy heavy things and cold in the winter never never hot in the summer though that's weird metal can be like that

can't it cold in the winter but just still cold in the summer but not just as cold but not coolly cold hmm what I was quite good at but I never really expanded upon it was the rifle range I was a good shot so you used to go on a I think that was a different night they actually had on a different night and I'd go along because I liked it I like shooting rifles and we I was pretty good I was pretty pretty accurate with the rifles and I only

like 22 to or 22 whatever they were but I had to go on a handgun once and I was bullseye every time again it was only like a pistol like pellets wasn't like proper bullets but like wow I like this it's nice I thought maybe I should have um looked into that but it's quite a hard thing for a kid to get into I think you need to join a club and I think if I just gone home to my dad and said oh I could get a gun please which

in some countries is normal but not not in this country we don't you know you you don't get them free with a can of coke or a chocolate bar yeah I know you don't get that anywhere but it's yeah you can't um they're not freely accessible in this old country of mine but maybe that might have been something I'd be quite good at another thing I thought would be good at that I'd well I don't know be good at but I think I'd enjoy is crossbowing do you know crossbow but

in the Olympics they do all that I mean I don't think all that technology was available when I was a kid because it's proper technical now isn't it it's almost like a science experiment I don't know whether I don't know whether an arrow is going to shoot out or rockets going to head to the moon I don't know what's going to happen it's that was really slow wasn't it slow response and sword fighting is another thing I quite like the idea of but like the Zorro kind of swords you know

those ones that you think well they're so little how could that hurt anyone they're thin and they bend what's that going to do but apparently they they can and they did but I like the idea of doing that that that was something I quite but I never got a chance to do that because and tap dancing maybe not at school but I did like the idea when I was in the gym I like to tap dance and I thought if I had bits of metal at the bottom of my shoes

I could get a rhythm and when I was in the sea cadets we used to put metal nails well not nails though I suppose or like now I said um buckles or um you know things you get on belts nuggets not nuggets knots whatever they are like bits of metal sticking on a finish in a kind of a a round or sharp shape and used to have them on the bottoms of our boots and could make sparks and stuff it was brilliant and slide along and I could tap dance in

them apparently that's one of the other reasons why I didn't get my badge too much tap dancing like it's like I can't win here so yeah that's it I think there's quite a few things I could have perhaps done there's still time to do some things maybe I'll try and take up tap dancing probably not bow and arrow though is that possible so I'm gonna go thank you very much for listening remember to be kind to yourself because you do deserve to be happy be gentle with yourself you do deserve to feel safe lots of love bye
