Hello, welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland This is Whisper Wednesday Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes So it is Wednesday 30th July 2025 It's about quarter past five in the morning I just got out of bed I really had the weirdest bunch of dreams It all started off right where I was lying in bed and I started remembering a dream from years ago It was like a specific, I don't know how to explain it without yawning I, it was just I had these dream sequences,

these places that I visit in my dreams and this just happened to be a place that I haven't visited for some while and I started thinking about it and I started wondering why, why but some of the dreams I had last night it was fairly, fairly strange almost unnecessary and my voice is still a little bit crackly due to the Covid but though I'm on the mend Uncle Sausages is being moved into a nursing home today His, the latest is He's just asleep all the time,

pretty much So he had a visitor last night and she let me know that when she was with him the whole time he was asleep and they couldn't wake him up They tried to wake him up just to sort of, you know, let him know that he'd had a visitor but he wouldn't wake up So this is where he's at now Now the weird thing about it is last time I saw him he was wide awake apart from, no he was asleep but outside of that,

like I saw him on a Monday last week and the first thing he did is start moaning about some conspiracy or other that he's been going through and then we started having a laugh and he started talking about other stuff and you know, I went and got him some drinks and things like that from downstairs in shops, did you hear that?

in, in, in, my voice is crackly, very crackly in in there's not a lot I can do about it Yeah, so he was kind of okay groggy, slow but still, you know, verbally able to talk and communicate When I went on a Wednesday he was asleep and as I will, I just went home straight away I took that as an opportunity to escape which I'm glad I did because at the time I did not know that I had COVID the last thing in the world I thought about and pretty sure that's where I would have caught it because that's all,

that's the only place I've gone to the last five weeks was the hospital so I must have caught it there I guess yeah just trying to think, yeah so I saw him, he was asleep and since then he's spending more and more time asleep he had a fall the other day, they found him on the floor in the bathroom and so he's kind of bedridden now as well weird,

so since I last saw him when he was still fiery verbally still still talking and still chatty and still opinionated and all that and the next time I see him which will be in a couple of days time when the COVID's cleared hopefully he's just going to be there asleep it's weird, I just, how quickly that part happened I started clearing out some of his stuff from the flat and it's really weird because I was asked if I'd sort of look through some stuff to try and find something his birth

certificate so I did and I did find it but I've also found a bunch of photographs which he had hidden away photographs of him when he was a baby it's weird because he's there and he's great he almost looks the same same long hair same beard it's just yeah it just looks the same yeah it's pictures of his mum you know these are, this is to me this is sacred stuff this is personal stuff but I don't think anyone's going to want it because he's got no one,

not no family it's really got me thinking about life it's just the idea that one day someone's going to be walking they'll be up here looking through my stuff and just chucking it into bags rubbish, that's rubbish, that's rubbish just chucking it into bags and I'll just be forgotten like I was never here it just seems weird so I've decided to start laying some booby traps that's the way people do it you know a few explosions and stuff like that well no no that's funny,

well so it was I started to think that there's no point holding on to stuff belongings, things like that what's the point in getting possessive when it's while looking at my stuff no matter how important it may seem to me to whoever's in here whether it's the council coming to empty my flat it's just going to be a bunch of junk to them just going to be rubbish I struggle with that a little bit just a little bit not that I've really got like a lot of stuff cause I got

equipment you know for the podcasting and stuff like that and I got some books and that's pretty much it I got a dirty carpet there's a lot of dust in here yeah not I suppose not a lot of stuff but I just wonder is there any point having anything I always used to love collecting things yeah specifically books but at what point does collection become holding and you know I could collect I could have ten thousand books on the walls in this flat and look at them and drool get all

excited when I look at them and they'll be almost priceless to me then one day knowing that she's going to be backed up and chucked onto a skip when I'm gone that just seems sad really sad started watching Happy Gilmore 2 the other day I knew it was coming out soon on Netflix so I watched the original Happy Gilmore from 1996 I think and that was quite weird watching it back I don't actually think I've watched it for nearly 30 years I might have done but I don't recall watching it

before other than the first time so I started watching Happy Gilmore 2 and I just couldn't believe that his wife or his girlfriend and then wife in the movies was Claire Dumfrey or Dumpy Dumpy from Modern Family I recognised her in the second one because it looks like her the first one looks nothing like her but then it was 29 years ago well they probably made it 30 years ago if it was released in 96 they probably made it 95 looks so different I didn't realise she's like 55 years old but just I don't know why I thought she was in her 40s or something makes me feel younger that was a long pause wasn't it what did they say?

there should never be any radio silence tough the rules are to be broken it's weird because technically I kind of feel like possibly go out and just carry on doing what I need to do but I do still not feel not feel right yet I still feel blocked up you know not not clear and I promised myself that I wouldn't do the last COVID test to see if I was clear until my symptoms were clear because I don't see the point in if I do a thing and it says yep

you're clear and I go in and I'm sneezing over everyone or coughing over everyone knowing that I've just come through COVID that doesn't seem like a very bright thing to do in a place full of people that are very very ill because I'm not I know there's there's people that think that they're heroes because they go out even when they're out so they're going out and they're sniffing and they're sneezing and they're coughing over everyone and they go into the office and they they've got the pride of never had a

day off work since they started working 900 years ago and they're sitting at their desk in an office with air conditioning which spreads every single germ possible to all the other offices around the building and they turn up and they're dripping and there's it's like a swamp they're like a walking swamp and they feel so proud I don't have time off I got to work I don't phone in ill and I've never been one of them I was a little bit like that when I was a kid you know work

ethic and all that my dad tried to force a work ethic in me it it semi worked for a little while but as I got older you know I used to work with a cold I'd go to work with a cold and once I hit my thirties, my middle thirties well my thirties I think I was like 35 I remember thinking to myself stuff this if I've got a cold I'm staying at home I'm not spreading it as an employer if I was an employer which I'm not if I had

a hundred staff working in an office and one person comes in swampy man swampy and sneezing and coughing over everyone I don't think I mean I don't know I might have a completely different attitude if I was if I was an owner of humans but I like to think that I would send that person home so that they don't contaminate the whole building because I've seen that I've seen people come to work so proud I don't ever have time off work at you and then they recover but during that recovery time when they go from having a full on cold to being fine or flu,

whatever it is you see that the people in the staff in the building reducing dwindling that's it, dwindling it doesn't sound right though reducing anyway people going off hill I've seen that in the past and suddenly you've got like 10-15% of the workforce off because one person was a hero so I decided I wasn't going to be that hero I was going to be a different kind of hero one that has what's that word that word that's not very common in the human race that isn't used and not really respected or understood,

what is it what's that word considerate I'd be considerate or at least try considerate oh my goodness I feel all tingly all down me bum oh that's nice considerate give that a go quite like consideration something that I've noticed seems to be lacking I'm getting old and moany instead of young and moany the amount of consideration is, or the lack of consideration amazes me just in this building,

people slamming doors they don't have to slam a door they must be able to hear the door slamming because it shakes the entire building but they still do it why do they do it is there anything going on inside their brain there must be see I'm a thinker I'm not going to pretend that there's anything particularly intelligent going on but I do think nevertheless and you know I try and show consideration even if I cross a separate crossing and there's lights that have stopped the car the car is not allowed to go over because the lights have stopped I will still wave thank you to the car sometimes even to the driver just a courtesy,

just consideration like thank you acknowledgement but the amount of times I see when I'm on a bus coming, travelling around the amount of people that just walk across the road and don't even look at the traffic stopped I guess maybe some people are shy but you don't have to look at the driver I don't look at the driver I just gaze my eyes in the general vicinity of where the driver may be sitting and just put my hand up I don't actually go up to the driver knock on their window and give them a big old kiss,

it's nothing like that, it's just a quick wave hi, thank you, acknowledgement also if they're sitting I've probably been sitting there for maybe 20 seconds and then I go to cross the road I put my hand up so they can see me because they might be looking at their phone and then decide to drive and I don't want to be squashed so I try and let people know that I'm there I remember one time there was this this was up near town and it was it wasn't a separate crossing but

it was a crossing and the lights stopped and the cars stopped you know but what this did is it turned really quickly from being stopped to start so the cars would just move and they didn't seem to take any notice of the people and because it was a busy crossing it was weird well once there was two lanes so the first lane we were crossing and a person was there now the other lane was clear but what people would do is sometimes basically if you're going to cross the road you

have to check both lanes just don't assume that the other lane is going to stop well this person had a pram with them and they pushed the pram straight into the road ahead of them because the lights were on red so they thought traffic had to stop I've never seen a light stop a car before you know and she pushed the pram out and a car was speeding on the other lane luckily there was no accident she managed to pull it back in time and that's when I realised that prams

are not really well suited for crossing the road especially if there's a blind spot and you can't see so you're better off pulling the pram backwards if you cross the road that's the first thing I kind of learnt from that well the second thing is I guaranteed you that she learnt nothing from that as a human I pretty much I would bet any amount of money that I don't have that she just continued the next time she was there if that was her regular route she would just continue pushing the

pram out like she did that time even though it was a near miss bet you nothing was learnt so that's something that I struggle with a little bit I'm not saying I learn from every situation because I don't but I kind of study people a little bit and what I noticed like in a call centre atmosphere in an office place if you see someone this is weird I don't know why but male and females seem to do two different things with drinks,

bowls of drink I don't know why of course it was years of studying to be honest I noticed this over a long period of time females seem to be more likely to have a bowl of drink with the lid left off and males would have the lid on and just take it off when they wanted a drink I've also noticed that over the years if someone puts a drink let's say they have it right on the edge of a table and it falls off onto the floor what they do is

they put the cup or the drink back at the edge of the table like it was before don't learn from it and put it further up so it doesn't fall off the edge or if it falls over they don't put the lid on they leave the lid off still maybe it's because it takes so much time to take a lid off if they got a flip lid that might be easier I don't know I don't know I mean the amount of things I have not learned from probably adds up to

thousands and thousands and thousands of things I do try I do and I think this sometimes is things that we we almost have no choice about learning from I kind of seem to be in that situation at the moment I'm just trying to figure out what it is I'm supposed to be learning but if I listen to my dummy dum dum all I need to do now is go and get something to eat because I'm hungry hungry so thank you for listening remember to be kind to yourself because you do deserve to be happy be gentle with yourself you deserve to feel safe lots of love bye
