Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes and this is Trivia Tuesday. Hello.

This is going to be in spats and this is going to be in spats and this is going to be in spats and this is going to be in all the time. So I'm okay with that. I thought I'd just do a recording and just take a little break whenever there's a sound.

Although to be honest I don't think you'll hear it but it's not like super loud on the microphone because a microphone because it's weirdly enough it's a good microphone so it doesn't pick up too much of background stuff. If that makes sense. So what I'm going to do I need to figure out what I'm going to talk about for my this week's Tuesday.

Trivia Tuesday. I don't know. I'm trying to think.

Before I go further just let you know about my website. It's jasonnewland.com. Thousands and thousands of my recordings are on there. You can stream, you can download.

I've got links. Right at the top of the page there's all my main podcasts in a carousel kind of thing that you can just skip through to choose which one you want. So for example if you wanted relaxation for stress and panic attacks you can click on that and it brings you to the main website with the latest recordings and then at the top in the index you've got podcasts which takes you to all different podcasts.

So there's the main one which is hypnosis for sleeping deeply which is actually on the first page of the podcast of the website. Then there's a Let Me Bore You To Sleep chronic pain hypnosis, deep sleep whisper hypnosis, Jason's bedtime story time, let me bore your pain away, relaxation for stress and panic attacks, relax and sleep hypnosis daily, sleepy borrowing objects, stop smoking hypnosis, stress and pain relief, stop nail biting and Q&A Friday.

So there that's on there and then you've also got playlists so those same podcasts but with playlists.

So if you click on Let Me Bore You To Sleep for example you've got lots of different playlists all broken into 50s. So for example if you wanted to listen to 701 to 750 just click on that one and it gives you all of those podcasts listed and again you can stream or download or you can even fast or slow down, fast or speed or slow down.

If I'm talking too fast that is of course.

What else I've got a YouTube channel at Jason Newland which is now my podcast so I upload all the latest recordings on there that you can stream you can see I listen to and also Facebook group called Jason Newland's boring group that you're welcome to join so that's available. I've had new two new people which I will mention so nope Facebook where's Facebook Facebook Facebook Facebook.

So we've got two new people joined yesterday or today I think it was today I've got so we had Hope join a couple of days ago three days ago and today we have had Mitchell and uh this is weird where is it no there's a there's a thing saying welcome so I know exactly who it is because I've already spoken to him so it's Karina I think it's Karina or Karina Karina or Karina or Karina I think it's Karina but Karina and Mitchell welcome to this groovy Facebook group I'm no

longer on SoundCloud but you're welcome to start a SoundCloud page yourself and just add my recordings just download them from my website and just add them on there if you wanted to and also welcome you I invite you to do that on any of the apps and share my recordings and also you could have open a group whether it's another Facebook group or whether it's a TikTok group or Instagram or wherever wherever you listen to your recordings or these recordings or wherever you like to sort of spend time you could

have a little group on there where you could share the new recordings if you want to I mean just it helps me but also helps other people to discover my weird recordings yeah I look over and he's trying to get to the table on the little table side to the side of the thing and I don't know why I really don't know why I've had four phone calls from a neighbor and they called one two three times yesterday the one two three four times yesterday no not friday that was friday

what day is it today now they called twice yesterday and called four times today I wonder what's going on they've not left a voicemail so it can't be important can it otherwise they'd leave a voicemail message uh yeah so that's it so really so I need to figure out what I'm going to do regarding the actual Trivia Tuesday because I honestly I didn't know I don't know I don't know I really don't I thought if you if you do if you listen to this and you normally listen on soundcloud then

just let you know also on my website there's a link with podcast apps that's in the index or in the uh index or whatever you call it uh and I've listed all well most of the main podcasts which you can click on so for example cast box is there and it gives you a link to each and every one of my podcasts so you can listen on there or on apple podcasts or podcast app or deezer luminary podcast republic player fm ah this is boring isn't it podcast addict podcast index

pod chaser pod friend there's a lot of pods isn't there pod verse pod bean spreaker of course that's where I that's where the home is for my podcasts and spotify so and there's a yeah spotify has all of my podcasts on there as well and there's a link you can find them sometimes if you go directly to spotify there's some old podcasts that don't work I don't know why they keep them on there so if you want to find the most up-to-date podcast and the correct link maybe just go to

my website it's really easy to find from there and then you can just save that link if you want to uh what else what else what else what else what else what else and I think I might need a toilet so I just pop down pop around the corner to see what they wanted and they gave me a a bone for vinny like a lamb bone big old thing because you can't have little bones because it's not good you know it's not not a good idea but a big bone or

a little bit too big for him but he's loving it it was moaning just then I had to break it up so he's very happy little boy now it's weird because one of the people the neighbor she said would he growl at me if I try and take it off him I said yeah probably she went up and he did like a little growl I ran away like and I said you think that's that's nothing wait to see what he does with me and I walked up to him and he

growled he started barking seriously doesn't treat me the same as other people it's not fair so I got no idea what I was talking about and I feel like I've not even really started the recording I feel a little bit flustered a little bit flustered a little bit to be fair to be fair I don't know so I need to do a trivia on something find trivia on pigeons find trivia on pigeons the thing is I'm using chat gpt t p g b t likely the user meant pigeons instead of

pigeons okay sorry I pronounced I spelt it wrongly pitch yeah to be fair and find okay is that better spelt it correctly yeah is it is it okay okay so here we are 100 trivia facts about pigeons I don't know why this is a trivia fact but it says pigeons can recognize themselves in a mirror I'm not quite sure what that means no I know what it means but do is that unusual for a bird to be able to recognize themselves in a mirror I mean what do they brush their

hair did they go they like do the old fonzie you have to be very old to know what I'm talking about there you know hey as they're combing their hair everything's perfect hey they've been trained to detect some medical issues from medical images wow now that from an image see I don't know how much of this is true or just made up so I'm just gonna I'll say it anyway but it might all be lies this is true this next one I know this pigeons were used extensively in world wars

as message carriers yes they were phenomenal really but I think I don't quite know how it works but I think once a pigeon knows a route so once if you can take a pigeon you can blindfold a pigeon and take it to the other side of the country see if it'll find its way back to where it lives so if I had a pigeon living here let's say I got Horace and I grabbed him blindfolded him which would be rude considering he's a classmate as a member of the family really

and I took him to Wales banger in Wales always banger to you anyway you know just up Wales area and I'm I'm blindfolded him what is the opposite to blindfolded unblindfolding I mean removing the blindfold but unblindfolded is that the correct term I don't know and say go on go home now to start with he'd probably be a bit annoyed with me but why did you blindfold me you know after all these years why would you do something like that after all this contribution I've made to your podcasts over the

years going do you not appreciate anything I've done and it'll be the thing is if I took him there how would I know if he got home or not I suppose now you could have a thing attached to it couldn't you which should like one of those things are having cars that you can tell where you are I mean in the old days you'd look out the window but you know now you can look at the screen which makes me wonder how come you're not allowed to use a phone you're

not allowed to use a phone in a car even if it's hands-free so what's the laws can I use hands-free phone in car to text can I use hands-free phone in the car it's illegal so it's illegal to use a handheld I said hands-free hands-free is illegal for a driver to use a handheld mobile when driving to read a text or to receive check messages in what about using a using a phone sat nav or other device when driving you can use a device held in your hand if one you

need to call 99999 or 111225 or whatever 112 I don't even know what the 112 is what is that in an emergency and it's unsafe or impractical to stop two you're safely parked three you're making a contactless payment in a vehicle that is not moving for example as a drive-thru restaurant or as okay or four you're using a device to park your two what are you using device to park your vehicle remotely they forgot one very important one there's no one around if there's no one around you can't get in

trouble I think that's the one probably should be the top of the list that most people use I actually saw a lorry once and when I leave a pause like that it sounds like I'm bragging about having seen a lorry no there's more to the story I saw a lorry driving past me and I'm waiting to cross the road he didn't see me and as he passed and it was very it wasn't okay it wasn't it wasn't fast traffic but I saw he was watching television or watching a video it

looked like he had a tv put like a maybe it was a tablet or something like that and he was watching something while he was driving now I understand probably driving it can be a bit boring and if you're doing it all day long you know now that we've got the technology I mean it's it's got to be probably quite tempting to play video games and stuff I don't know but generally I'm just thinking maybe we should be looking out the window at the driver that is that's what I'm thinking

with driving I think the only way driverless cars can work is if all cars are driverless as long as there's humans driving driverless cars I don't think will work like 100% because there's always going to be that human error but once every single car on the road is automated and all synced together it kind of makes crashes and stuff almost impossible almost I mean other than I guess vehicular failure like a tire bursting or stuff like that I suppose and I'm looking forward to that in the future because I'd like

to own a car one day I don't quite know how my finances are going to allow that but I think it'd be quite cool to have a car but not have to drive it to have that that freedom because if you're in a self-driving car surely you can just do anything you want you don't need to be aware I don't know maybe I'm wrong maybe you have to be like the second driver you're almost like the you know when you get driving lessons and you've got the other the other instructor

or the the instructor is in the passenger seat but they've also can take control of the car if they need to maybe it's like that perhaps if the the automatic car is just having a grumpy day it just doesn't want to do anything you can I don't know how that would work but yeah you can bring it back and so on I know that's it I'm taking over see here's one that I didn't quite understand okay you don't use a phone when you're driving I mean even distraction like really driving

but the big I think the biggest distraction for any driver is a passenger I mean realistically it's the passenger that's the biggest distraction for a driver especially the passengers talking and going on and on and on and on and on and if you've got like kids in the car arguing and that's more of a distraction than using a phone I imagine I mean you could say you still keep your eyes on the road yeah but it's still a heck of a distraction listen to the radio listen to music it's a

distraction but it's allowed I do think it's a little bit excessive for them to say that if you're stopped at a traffic lights then you can't look at your phone because I'm just thinking of every scenario the most that can happen is you're just going to annoy someone behind you by not going quick enough you know by not being aware of the traffic's changing I mean I haven't given it a lot of thought maybe it would be dangerous but it seems like it would just be annoying queuing in traffic this

I do understand because I've actually seen this in the past where I mean if you stood on the side of the road you would see like if you just stood there for eight hours you would see hundreds of cars if it's a busy road that is you'd see hundreds of drivers using their mobile phones while they're driving especially if the traffic's really slow like in an almost like a traffic jam you'll see probably I'd say eight out of ten maybe even higher of the drivers using a mobile phone in their

hand holding it down so no one can see it doesn't quite work when it's you know night time but if you can see the light that's what I mean but I do kind of understand why because I was I mean it's this person was parked so technically you could say he wasn't breaking laws because he was parked and he was using his phone and I was on my way to work this is back in 2006 maybe 2005 yeah 2005 I'd say maybe 2006 so I'm on my way to work and

I'm just crossing over behind this van and the van the van reverses into me I mean I get out of the way in time and I managed to jump onto the pavement like the hero that I am and no I'm not going to sing it and I looked into his thing and he was on the phone he didn't even know he was completely oblivious and yeah it wasn't a great start to the day to be honest oh the law still applies if you're supervising a learner driver isn't this interesting so

you could be a you can be a driving instructor you're not even in charge of the car but technically you are you know even though the other person's driving you do have control then you have to change things but you can't use a phone there and the law still applies if you're driving a car that turns off the engine when you stop moving well you can't do anything with the car can you so what yeah and holding and using a device that's offline or in flight mode why why why would

you use a device that's offline or in flight mode what would you do with it unless you're using a calculator I mean is this you're kind of limited aren't you to what you could do if it's in flight mode so you're not allowed to even hold the phone what about if it's turned off what about if it's in bits what about if it's not been delivered yet you can't what about holding an empty box what about holding a receipt of a mobile phone you purchased can't hold that when you're driving

a car I don't know maybe that's going over the top using devices hands-free you can use devices with hands-free access as long as you do not hold them at any time during usage hands-free access means using for example a bluetooth handset voice command a dashboard holder or mat a windscreen um mouth mount windscreen mount a built-in saw no a built-in sat nav my eyesight built-in sat nav okay studies have been done in the past that actually having bluetooth and talking to someone on the phone is a distraction but hey what

about watching watching a movie or watching YouTube or tiktok videos while you're driving because that's a screen isn't it penalties you can get six penalty points at a 200 pound fine if you hold and use a phone sat nav tablet or any device that can send and receive data while driving or riding a motorcycle to be fair if you're riding a motorcycle I can't imagine I mean how do you use a tablet and ride a motorcycle at the same time especially with them big gloves I mean they're not really suited

for tablet screens are they you can get three penalty points if you don't do not have a full view of the road and traffic ahead or proper control of the vehicle you know I often wonder about you know when someone gets sent to prison and you know they get like um maybe they don't stop there's an accident they don't stop and it's quite a serious situation they get you know get caught and they get put in prison for six years let's say five years in prison and banned for driving banned

from driving for two years but not gonna be able to drive for two years anyway because they've spent this next six years in prison I mean even with a third off they're still not going to have time to drive are they I don't think they'll let you out on um like little excursions excursions fancy going for a drive so I don't know what the rules are about watching can I use hand can I can I watch watch tiktok tiktok videos when driving hands free oh that's illegal as well however using

a handheld device whilst driving is illegal and could lead to fines even points being under your license or even worse even if you're filming hands free even if you're filming hands free you can still be penalized by the police if you're deemed to be distracted a risk not really not working so I was thinking while watching but they're talking about making a tiktok video so if you're filming yourself while you're driving which I'm pretty certain all taxi drivers do for their own protection they're not doing it probably for tiktok videos

unless when they're not around they do a little dance when there's in between customers but you know tiktok dance or whatever so let's have a what isn't and isn't illegal I want to see if there's any loopholes using a handheld mobile phone while behind the bar but why is it taking okay it's gone so it just covered all up using a handheld mobile phone whilst behind the wheel has been long a controversial and incredibly dangerous issue for UK drivers okay so let's go through what is hands-free phone use the law

so you can't hold it behind the way behind the world fair enough and what if you need to take it out what if it falls out of the holder you need to put it back into the holder what if what if the screen's dirty you need to wipe the screen on your trousers okay this stupid thing keeps coming up this is a really bad website it's the menu's right at the top and there's not enough room for the text which I understand the menu is important and I got a menu

on my website but it's not it doesn't take up it's not on top of the page it's at the top of the page you're not on top of the page literally it's taken up three quarters of the page just for the menu wow no I'm not happy with that I'm moving on right penguins no pigeon pigeons I mean a pigeon named Sher Ami received the Croix de Guerre for bravery in ww1 cool and pigeons can see ultraviolet light okay I'm not sure what benefit that is but I assume there is

benefit to it look their navigational skills rival modern gps's yep and I mean they do but I've spoken to Horace in all fairness you know because I was I was speaking to him the other day I said look um I said do you know pigeons he said well yeah I am one I said we and I also do know other pigeons as well and I said okay but do you you know in the old days you used to deliver packages and deliver messages he said well I've heard of such a

thing but I've never done it because I'm only three I said okay but did you is it still possible to do he said well yeah we've got we've got probably the best um navigational skills that rival modern gps's that was his exact wording and which makes me think he wrote this and I said okay in that case can you just pop this message around the corner if I just tie it to your to your collar he said I haven't got a collar get off me get off me god take that

collar off me so I put a collar on him and I added this to a collar and I said he said um okay but just promise me you won't blindfold me anymore I said I can't you won't be able to fly if you're blindfolded will you he said well actually you know I'm pretty skillful I said okay weird and he said where do you want it I said well it's literally just around the corner Bakerville Avenue Bakerville Avenue it's it's like three minute walk from here but I'm busy and I

just don't really want to go around there he said okay he's gone for about six hours in the meantime the neighbours phoned me up saying where's that message you were going to send in your carrier pigeon I said I don't know did you not get it he said well no because we wouldn't be phoning you if we got it would we I wouldn't be saying where is the message if I'd got it that would just be weird I said okay fair enough blimey why is everyone being rude today and eventually

he turned up he looked very sheepish I mean by that it wasn't covered in wool he just he just looked a bit like oh embarrassed and I said what happened he said couldn't find it I said what do you mean couldn't it's literally around the corner he said I couldn't find it and I said I thought you had the navigational skills that rival modern GPS's and he said yeah but we don't understand is if I lived there and you brought me here I could find my way back there that's how

it works I said why didn't you tell me that to start with why did we waste eight hours he said I thought might make an interesting story for your podcast I said look podcasts are not about being interesting it's about being boring it's about being you know calming people and just being relaxing and it's not supposed to be a super stimulating and interesting stuff about myself and he said well you do quite well then because I've never heard anything interesting come out of your mouth yet which again is not rude

why just because he messes up and he's not able to find an address around the corner and the passenger pigeon now extinct was once the most numerous bird in North America I don't know why I mean passenger pigeons the problem is they just got a bit lazy I think do you want to do anything like like let someone else do it I'll just sit in the passenger seat and maybe that's what it was Charles Darwin kept pigeons and bred them for his evolution studies oh I don't want to know about

that I imagine there was some weird stuff going on there I'm not saying Charles Darwin was Darwin was um had a pigeon fetish I'm just saying that it might have been strange pigeons can recognize all 26 letters of the alphabet really can he recognize them or do they just look at them now Vinnie Vinnie looks at a book don't mean he can read you know I mean he watches the TV don't mean he knows what's going on he he looks at my shoes looks at my shoes doesn't mean he can

tap dance I want to learn to tap dance they can distinguish between different human faces which isn't that just a standard thing like for everything well not maybe not worms but I just that'd be weird wouldn't it you hear a little voice you're walking through the through the park hear a little voice hello you all right then what how you doing you okay I haven't seen you in a while there's a little worm holding a numberilla like yeah I haven't seen you for are you okay do I know you yeah

yeah you nearly trod on me about a week ago I'm sorry about that don't worry about it's okay don't matter I mean if you do I could just even if you cut me in two it won't make any difference really I said yeah yeah yeah go on do it if you want cut me in two I'll be fine I'll just continue I'll just be two of me then I said is that true or is that just something that we think when we're kids and maybe it isn't you say why don't

you search online and find out when you do your podcast so okay can worms be cut in half and still live so the head of a worm may survive and regenerate its tail if cut behind the clitoris or the clitoral clit clit the clit elem the clit elem and the head of the world may it regenerates its tail the original tail of the world will not be able to grow a new head or other vital organs okay so why is more research not put into this to find out what how

it works because that would be perfect wouldn't it we remove a part of the body in it a new one grows back and if you could choose the size of that new part maybe have it grow back a little bit bigger I mean you know I might be in a queue there how many work this is a weird one this is a BBC science focus magazine and it is a question that perhaps I would ask but I didn't expect to see it how many times can a worm be split in

half and still grow back so it says here contrary to popular belief worms cut in half don't actually turn into two new worms so that worm was lying to me wasn't it saying oh I'll only grow into two no only one part apart from the head down that grows back in a new tail I just want to look at this so there's a a hand holding a worm I don't think they I think they use stock images for these websites because I'm just thinking imagine if you was a model and

you get told oh you've got a bit of work for you today I'm gonna take like a couple of hours all right what am I going what's it for it's for science focus the BBC magazine science focus website and it's just an image I want to be doing oh you don't have to worry about that just just just go in make sure you yeah you just turn up on time and stuff no just out of interest what am I going to be doing you'll be holding a worm that's the picture

holding a worm a hand holding a worm why don't you just use stock footage from the internet so you're turning down work is that what you're saying so you don't want to get paid no no not that I'm just thinking it just seems a bit weird that they would why not just use an image you can get an image easy off any website or you know I mean not any website I guess it needs to be like worm focused a worm focused website um you're probably not going to go on

McDonald's or find pictures of worms generally I don't know where I'm going with this well look at this to a biologist worm refers to many quite different organisms the ability to regrow body parts differs anomalously between them although tails are generally easier to regrow if you mean earthworms their tails usually die when severed while for many other species the head portion down to the saddle can regrow a tail although often a stunted one but you wouldn't really complain though would you you know I don't like I've grown back my tail

but it's not as long as it used to be um earthworms could fully generate from one specific quarter of their body it's certain although it's not really known and okay some Degasia species can fully regrow from random body fragments of about 10 000 cells approximately 1 20th of the adult body size wow I mean that's science I mean it's science it's science fiction isn't it really if you think about it um you get so many superheroes that grow back I'm thinking of Deadpool for example he grows back parts to have

19 percent of the body gone so have just 1 20th of the body and the rest of the body grows back that's phenomenal but then if you remember carry on screaming it's a movie carry on movie and it's like it was their their mickey take of the hammer house horror movies really it's funny I love the Harry I love the carry on films I also love the Harry Harry the horror hammer house horror films as well but this there's one bit and they found the I forget his name but he

big biggie bongo or something and he gets his finger cut off so they find his finger and they regenerate from the finger a whole new monster odd bod I think it's odd bod and mini bod something like that and great great if you've never seen it have a little look it's probably on YouTube to be fair let's have a look is it on YouTube let's just skip let's go to YouTube YouTube carry on screaming carry on screaming full film it is not okay oh you can buy or rent yeah YouTube

can be a bit weird like that it's you can get some of them you can get carry on Kyber the full film you've got carry on screaming only one point yeah no no how strange no it's not on there I don't know where the carry on movies are available to like all watch I don't know anyway the um it's a good movie I like it I like all the carry on movies I don't know why I think it's a nostalgic thing for me I grew up watching them and there's there's

personally there's a feel-good element to watching them because they're very playful and very silly and I don't know I just like them some I've seen this some pigeons have been trained to play ping-pong which I've found I've seen this I've seen yeah um pigeons can learn abstract numerical rules like three is more than two um okay how did they discover these things the term pigeon covers over 300 species of birds rook I mean doves doves are pigeons aren't they the dove is just a white pigeon pigeon no it's no it's

a different bird no a dove is a pigeon is a dove a pigeon is a dove a pigeon doves and pigeons are technically the same thing but have different new numbers of chromosomes that prevent there ah so there's issues to prevent them from mating with each other they're pretty much the same bird and they're from the same bird family called Columbia Cumberland day however colloquial English tends to categorize them by size so doves are a little bit smaller than pigeons I think 10 key differences according to this website bird helpful

because who if they probably thought you know one day we'll put this thing dove versus pigeon we'll do this article because one day someone's going to want to know this was January 28 2024 and who knew that one day I'd need to know so it says here are you amongst those who often wonder whether doves are or are pigeons or vice versa to give you a head start they are not the same although they do have a lot of similarities they're the same doves and pigeons are two closely related avian

species although both are small to medium sized birds pigeons are slightly bigger and have wider wingspan than doves besides physical differences these two birds also different differ in their habitat preferences diet behavior cause and this now let's focus on similarities why is everyone focusing on differences you know let's just get back to to conclusion inclusion come on location the dove worldwide but most common in warm climates the pigeon again worldwide but most common in urban areas you get the wood pigeon don't you which is in the woods so the body

and shape dove is smaller and delicate with sleek body small head and slender neck to be that picture there looks like a seagull body and shape pigeons bit larger plumper bigger head there's not a lot in it really so the weight 96 to 170 grams for the dove 255 to 368 grams for the pigeon yeah the wingspan is there's quite a lot of difference in size the pigeon can can drive a faster than the dove the dove can drive 40 to 55 miles an hour and the pigeon can drive 77

to 93 miles an hour i mean that's going to be dependent upon wind surely i mean on a really windy day give it a hurricane it can probably drive about 200 miles an hour behavior gentle docile birds which one do you think that is it's the dove behavior of the pigeons more aggressive than doves but still relatively docile horace is pretty gen he's pretty general most of the time quite gentle but has a bit of an attitude sometimes so predators for oh blimey he says predators owls cats dogs all that

stuff they've forgotten seagulls seagulls i've seeks honestly i've seen seagulls do some weird things and i'm not just yeah i'm not i'm not talking about weird but just like strange things rock pigeons are the ones we most often see in cities and they were domesticated over 5 000 years ago in the middle east ancient egyptians used pigeons to deliver messages and yeah okay and we did up to a few years ago pigeons are monogamous and often make for life i had another interruption vinnie was whining okay took him into the

garden thinking he might need a you know a plop but he didn't just did a wee and came back inside so hey okay so uh pigeons share parenting duties both sexes incubate eggs and feed chicks cool wonder what chicks eat really if you think about it if birds eat worms then it makes sense if they just took the bottom half of the worm with its permission of course and it could just grow back and it'd keep you know it wouldn't diminish the the worms the worms would be happy well i'd

have to be happy but they'd probably be happier than if they were just ingested whole and yeah i wonder why what birds and worms don't get together and say look we know you're gonna we know what you're up to maybe we can come to some kind of agreement baby pigeons are called squabs don't see baby pigeons very often i don't can't remember the last time i saw a baby one you rarely see baby pigeons because oh this is the next one you rarely see baby pigeons because they stay in nests

until almost adult sized they feed their young with breast um pigeon milk sorry a protein rich secretion from their crop so that that's what they feed on until really uh pigeons can fly okay we've already done that the fastest recording racing pigeon flew at 93 miles per hour they can fly over 600 miles a day yet horace couldn't manage around the corner imagine him it is it is defense like yeah but i did do 600 miles i just went in the wrong direction okay pigeons use the earth's magnetic field to

navigate they can also use the position of the sun for orientation okay home in pigeons were used in the olympics to carry results why do you mean to other countries before raid well no i'm trying to think why why would they need to carry the results i don't know pigeons are mentioned in the bible as acceptable okay i would finish that sentence they are a symbol of peace and the holy spirit in christianity in hinduism feeding pigeons is considered a pious act um right i'm gonna have to look that up

i'm a little bit confused at that one oh okay i was for a second i was thinking that they were against it but it's something they do with devotion or in these words moral integrity and adherence to ethical standards aimed at achieving spiritual merit okay so as a part i know what pious means i just thought i don't know for some reason i didn't know what pious meant the pigeon is one of the few birds with the ability to drink water without tilting its head back as this seems a bit

random who noticed that there are pigeon races with cash prizes worth millions some pigeons have sold for over 1.4 million you know he'd done something really weird earlier came back from my neighbor's house okay a microphone is moving around for some reason and he started eating it in their garden then i brought him around i put it back in its tin foil brought it here he was trying to get it all the way you know back give it to me give it to me it's mine i get home and he's

just staring at me so as soon as we get back inside i take his lead off and i put it on the floor it's in a tin foil he picks a tin foil up the bone falls out the tin foil and he walks into the or he runs into the living room and i'm thinking he's going to come back and get the bone in a minute no so i walk into the living room just to see what he's up to he's like he's looking like where is it where's it gone

it's like a magic trick and eventually it took him a few minutes before he came out again and saw and he ran and got it but it was just funny the fact that he was looking for it oh nice yesterday it sounds like quite a loud quite a big plane just going past the it was vd day yesterday and there was loads of planes going past huge how does a plane that big travel so slowly i can't get it how did it stay in the how does it stay in the

air traveling so slowly you see this slowly going past huge thing weird i just never understood that urban pigeons are adapted to eat virtually anything that's a bit like okay what's that i was going to say toys but belgium is the center of professional pigeon racing i'm not saying anything about that like i thought at last we found something interesting about belgium no i wouldn't say that that's what that's what horace would say he's just whining again and i'm like okay what he's looking for the bone it's on the settee

i didn't put it on the settee so he must or did i no i'm pretty sure i didn't i wouldn't put it on the settee anyway i can't believe how much destabilization he is giving me today pigeons have better hearing than humans and can detect distant storms how do they know they can remember hundreds of images for several they can okay i can't even how do they know this they can remember hundreds of images for several years i mean how do you test that in pigeons pigeons were the first birds

domesticated for food okay wow the romans used pigeons to deliver military messages but we kind of took advantage of pigeons a little bit haven't we humans over the years uh pigeon drop-ins were once used to make gunpowder um oh god i don't know what to make of that i mean they they used it for gunpowder it just didn't work so they they found something else napoleon had a personal pigeon post network queen elizabeth banned queen elizabeth the first banned pigeon shootings on sundays that was nice of her gave them a

day off pigeons are illegal to feed in some cities like venice i'm pretty sure it's you're not allowed to feed them in uh leicester square either not leicester square leicester square not leicester square trafalgar square sorry trafalgar square when i was a kid you used to be able to go to trafalgar square and literally have pigeons cover you not i mean literally stand on you and people from all over the world would come over and get pictures taken and i'm sure they didn't just come over just to get pictures of

pigeons but it was part of the experience and then i think it might be in the 90s or maybe the 2000s when someone in the government said no no more we're not having pigeons anymore and there was someone quite famous or well known that used to feed the pigeons every day and i think he used to sell food to tourists to feed the pigeons and i'm pretty sure he got arrested pigeon feeder arrested trafalgar square this is my memory the forgotten pigeon food sellers of trafalgar since early 2000s it's officially

been illegal to feed pigeons in trafalgar square see little known law i remembered it can you imagine getting arrested for feeding a pigeon and then say oh like also you get these things they say um don't get signs don't feed ducks bread because it's bad for them tell the ducks they don't seem to care the signs right there i'm sure they're just as clever as pigeons they can read it pigeons know 26 letters i don't know if they know all the other letters of the alphabet they know at least 26

of them why don't you just tell read the ducks tell them you're not supposed to eat bread and it's bad for them but which is weird because i used to go to the same duck pond every week when i was a kid from the age of 7 to 17 probably 18 19 every weekend go there feed them bread and and nothing nothing happened there was no there was nothing nothing yeah it was different different ducks every week but it's still it was like they're they're eating it what we're supposed to

feed them yorkshire puddings they'll eat them as well i used to take a little pack a little little bag of food from the table and that's when there was no one looking i'd chuck it in the thing is with yorkshire pudding they float that was a bit weird no one knew it was me but i remember my dad saying like why is there three yorkshire puddings floating in the pond and everyone laughed and i kind of thought well they're laughing so it should be okay but i won't i'm not going

to tell them just in case so i'm sure someone got arrested 2000s early 2000s it was from kevin livingston who was the mayor of london at the time to deal with a plague which he called flying rats and ever since then people have just used that terminology my kid they said it for the first time oh a flying rat like oh everyone's like i've never heard that before yeah i believe pigeons are cute and there's nothing wrong with rats i'm thinking of bats no rats yeah i'm not pigeons are not

flying rats they're not nothing like rats they're just they're cute i like pigeons i'm sorry i can't help it i just do i'm trying to think i can't remember anyway i'm sure someone got arrested there was there's the long the pigeon feeders the forgotten pigeon food vendors or food sellers of trafalgar square and the fight to feed the birds this is a couple of years ago they used to sell yeah they used to sell um food and feed and stuff and i used to do that i do i did i

used to i mean it's just i didn't use to sell it but there's a picture here from blimey 1972 a pigeon food kiosk in trafalgar square surrounded by pigeons who wait for seeds so it's lovely don't you think in a way kind of lovely kind of i don't know i think so so let's have a look what else have we got here pigeons have been sent into space in iran pigeons are seen as holy creatures cool i love i love pigeons you can they can fly they can fly through lasers

in lab experiments without confusion and one of the first people to study pigeons was aristotle they've been used to smuggle things into prisons so they're basically they've been used to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into prisons so basically pigeons are like flying bums flying bumholes pigeon fanciers are known as pigeon men or pigeon keepers home home in pigeons were a vital part of the french resistance and pigeons can suffer from obesity if overfed but anything can can't it really ancient greeks believed pigeons carried souls to the afterlife oh their digestive

system processes food in under four hours that's interesting isn't it isn't it i think so i think it's very interesting yes i do so that's me done i think for this one so i just like to say thank you very much for listening it's been a bit of a broken one because of the vinster that's okay so um but hopefully i think should talk about something so remember to be kind to yourself because you do deserve to be happy and be gentle with yourself you deserve to feel safe lots of love bye
