Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland and this is Sleep Hypnosis Weekly. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes.

And I'd just like to say, I hope that your Christmas is going OK, meaning today is the day after Boxing Day 2020, so I don't know what date that is, 27th of December. I know that Christmas can be an amazing time for lots of people, but it can also be a difficult time for some. So I hope that you're getting through it and maybe listening to my recordings possibly are useful from a relaxation perspective, calming you down.

And what I find myself is, it's good to remember that we're coming up to a new year. And 2020 has been a very strange year, just generally, regardless if it's been a great year or not a great year, it's been strange, it's been a very weird year worldwide. I can only talk from my own perspective of living in England, but it's been very weird.

We're now literally practically in another lockdown. It's just very weird and being able to relax, to calm down, as well as to be able to sleep naturally is something that I think a lot of people perhaps take for granted because it's so easy for a lot of people, but for many people it's not so easy. And you know, I'm not in the category or I'm in the category where I find sleeping quite easy, but I kind of should do really, shouldn't I?

In a sense of what I do and making recordings, if I wasn't able to relax, then why am I making relaxation recordings? So I can relax and I can fall asleep.

In fact, sleeping is almost too easy for me sometimes, and I'm not showing off, I'm just saying that I find that sometimes when I make recordings, I fall asleep. A lot of that might be because I'm just boring myself to sleep. So you know, there is a bit of that in there, but being able to relax, just to take a step back to just almost empty your body and your mind, where for a period of time, none of the stuff that's going on in the world exists, just for yourself for that 20 minutes or half an hour or however long you want it to be.

And it gives you an opportunity to get in touch with who you are as a person, the real you, the you that feels positive, optimistic, relaxed, almost carefree. And it's nice to be able to have that time, to have that space where you can just let go for a while, regardless of what's going on in the world or in your life.

You can just leave it at the door, close the door, lay down in your bed or sit down in your chair, and maybe you can decide that when you're sitting in that chair, the chair that supports your body, the comfortable chair, that no stress or anxiety, no panic, none of those unpleasant feelings are actually allowed in that chair, not allowed, they're not welcome.

And when you sit down in your chair, or you lie down on your bed, again, tension, stress, all that stuff, it's not welcome when you're on your bed. It's not allowed. And as you make those little spaces stress-free, like you've got your bed stress-free, a place where you can just relax.

Because ultimately, I know we can get caught up in sleeping, I want to go to sleep, I need to be up in seven and a half hours, I've set my alarm, I have to go to sleep now. Well, that's never helped anyone to fall asleep. I'll give you a little secret there.

Tension and stress does not cause us to fall asleep. You know, it might as well go back in time to, you know, 100 years ago, maybe some people, you know, a couple of years ago, but where you'd have a teacher with a cane standing over you, telling you that you needed to speak more clearly when you're reading out loud in front of the classroom. Or even more silly, being spanked and being told, stop crying.

Well, stop spanking me and I'll stop crying. I remember one of my Dads once said, this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you. Well, don't do it then.

Don't do it. So, we can't force ourselves to fall asleep. And some people, if they're listening to this for the first time, may be thinking, okay, why are you telling us this? Why don't you just hurry up and hypnotise me to go to sleep? Well, I do things a little bit different.

I do things very gently. And also, I don't ignore the realities of life. I don't ignore the fact that stress gets in the way of sleeping and relaxing.

So, I acknowledge it, I talk about it. And by talking about it, things start to change. You start to maybe notice that when you lie down on your bed, you can actually really get in touch with the pleasure of just lying down.

The pleasure of having your body supported. No longer having to use any part of your body. And to be able to just lie there, you notice that it feels nice.

And it's a process. You wouldn't turn up a meal, or cook a meal for friends, have them come round, and as soon as they sat down at the dinner table, take their dishes away before they'd even started eating, because you wanted to do the washing up, you wouldn't skip eating the food. And you wouldn't have any friends left if you kept doing that as well.

In fact, if I was your friend, I would not let go of the plate. You'd have to wash me up with the plate. So I hope you got a big sink.

So the process of both relaxing and the process of sleeping are very similar. So in order to sleep, you need to relax. Apart from those times when you're so exhausted that you just fall asleep.

But having been there a few times, trying to think back to how it felt, there is a degree of pleasure with that exhaustion. To be physically exhausted is quite a nice feeling, providing you don't have to do anything else. If you feel physically exhausted, and you know you're about to just go to bed, you can go to bed in a minute, providing you can get out, you can get to the bed, you're fine.

Feeling physically exhausted and then having to go to work for another eight hours, well that would just be horrible. So those moments where you do feel physically exhausted, falling asleep is easy. It's the easiest thing in the world.

In fact, there's no process. It's really a case of laying down on the bed. And sometimes it's instant.

Completely instant. Because your body, your mind, forces you to go to sleep. Now you can't force yourself to go to sleep.

Another person can't force you to go to sleep. Without drugs, without obviously anesthetists can put you to sleep during an operation and things like that. You can't force yourself.

But when your mind and your body needs to fall asleep, you've got no choice but to follow and to do what it tells you. Sometimes as a little game, I like to think back. So I'll be lying in bed and I'll think back to a time.

I remember once I used to work in a bakery and I'd do double shifts. And it was the most hardest, hottest, sweatiest, dirtiest work I've ever had. And I'd get home and I'd collapse in my bed.

And that would be it. No tossing and turning. No anything.

It was instant. And I'd be falling asleep on the bus home. I remember once I was leaning against the window of a bus.

I fell asleep because I had no choice. My body and my mind were forcing me to fall asleep. And I woke up and it was at a bus stop and there was about 50 people out queuing to get on the bus.

And I was dribbling. I'd like there to be a big stream of dribble down my chin and onto my chest. It would be embarrassing.

People looking up at me. You could just hear from, you could almost read their minds. I think we'll, let's just stay on the bottom part of the bus today.

We won't go up there. Not with dribbler. So your body and your mind.

I'm using both your body and your mind. I mean, it's your brain really, isn't it? It's your brain. Will force you to go to sleep if it's required.

The problem is, sometimes we feel so tired. And we wonder, well, my brain is not forcing me to go to sleep. My mind is not forcing me to go to sleep.

My mind is active, overactive. Well, sometimes if. As you probably know, if you've done this, if you keep yourself awake for too long.

Your mind starts to. Become a bit weird. So there is, you know, this is a different kind of thing, but it's strange.

Strange. When I was younger, I used to do a lot of really long hours at work. And sometimes you get almost like a second wave, a second.

Breath or. Where you'd have energy. But it was.

Not the clearest thinking. At the time as well. Physically, you might be able to do stuff.

So your body will. Also let you know when it's time to go to sleep. The problem is sometimes.

Because of your lifestyle, you might not be able to listen. To your body or your mind. I know someone that.

They struggle to sleep at night. But they're tired during the day, but they won't go to sleep when they're tired. And they force themselves to stay awake and at night they can't sleep.

And I said, I remember saying, have you considered maybe. Going to sleep when your body and your mind. You know, he's telling you that you need to.

And he said, no. Refuses. Supposed to sleep at night, not during the day, you know.

Okay. So it's a choice. It's a choice.

And again, you might be thinking, oh, Jason, can't you just do a. And you do. Like a normal session that you normally do. Why are you talking? Why are you talking about serious stuff? I'm not trying to be serious.

Just. The reality that. There's more going on.

You know, in our brains. Our minds, our bodies, when it comes to sleeping. But if we don't overthink it.

If we. Really. Realize.

The fall asleep is one of the easiest things in the world. You can start to get your head around the idea that. Oh.

Maybe you'd be making a much bigger deal of it than was necessary. Maybe. It really is as simple.

It's just relaxing. And when you relax. Provided you've got no other plans and you're not doing anything else.

And you know. You just sit there or lie there with your eyes closed. The longer you relax.

You're just going to fall asleep. Because that's. That's the next step.

Relaxation. Relaxation leads to sleep. Relaxation deep relaxation leads to pain relief.

So. Relaxing is one of the most amazing things. That any of us can do for ourselves.

It's almost the greatest gift. That you can give to yourself. Is to learn to relax.

Learning to relax is just doing it. The more often you listen to one of my recordings. The easier.

You find yourself able to relax. The more often. You do it.

The easier is. To the point of. You don't even need to think about it anymore.

You go from. Hoping. That you'll be able to relax and sleep.

To actually just expecting it. Which is a nice feeling. A nice feeling to just.

Have that faith. In your own ability. To completely.

Let go. And making that decision. Almost daily.

Making the decision to. Enjoy. Feeling relaxed.

To enjoy the process of. Moving from relaxation. To being asleep.

Even though you may not. Actually be aware of the process. Because your mind drifts.

You can be aware of the physical pleasure. Of deeply relaxing. Every part of your body.

And the emotional pleasure. As your mind. Slows down.

And any thoughts that were there before. Drop away. In fact in your mind.

You can imagine. Your thoughts. The ones you actually don't want.

To think about. They can be packed into a plane. And flown over.

A volcano. An active volcano. And just released.

Into that volcano. Those thoughts. Those limitations.

Stresses. Strains. Any anxiety.

Can all be released. Dropped into that volcano. Instantly.

Evaporated. And you can. Enjoy the feeling of.

Release. As you realize. That those thoughts that were there before.

Never had any power over you. Or your life. It was just that you allowed it.

To be there. Any visitor in your house. You allow.

That's why. We don't come home to 700 people. In our homes.

When we get home. Because how could you sleep through that? 700 people all squashed together. Chatting to each other.

It would be impossible to fall asleep through that. So you would evict them. From your home.

You would remove them physically if necessary. But you would ask them nicely. Maybe.

Get out of my house. And then. You'd be able to appreciate the peace.

The comfort of relaxing. Because there's something. Really special about.

Deciding. That you. Deserve.

To feel relaxed. That you deserve to give yourself. An opportunity.

To let go completely. Relaxing. So deeply.

Knowing that that. Relaxation. If you choose.

Can lead to sleep. Deep deep sleep. Or you can decide to just.

Enjoy the relaxation. For what it is. Enjoy feeling.

Completely. Loose. And comfortable.

And I notice when I relax. Even my breathing. Is relaxed.

Which just shows. How deep. This relaxation.

Travels into your body. Almost into your genetics. Relaxes.

Relaxes your existence. Just. Calms.

Everything down. So that you. Can really appreciate.

Yourself. You can really appreciate. Your.

Your essence. Who you are. Because you're relaxing right now.

Into who you are. Realizing that you're much more. Than you ever realized.

And that your heart is kinder. So much kinder than you. Were aware of.

But you're aware now. That well of love. That lives inside you.

With a never ending supply. Of love and gratitude. And kindness.

You can. Share with both yourself. And others.

Improving. Your life. In every way.

Relaxing your body. So. Deeply.

And relaxing your mind. And if you haven't already. Drifted.

Drifted. Into deep. Natural.

Sleep. You can. Now.

Decide. To almost. Disappear.

From the physical world. Into the world of dreaming. And I'm gonna count down from.

Ten down to one. With every number you hear. You will become naturally twice as sleepy.

Twice as sleepy. With every number you hear. As I count down from ten.

All the way down to one. Ten. Nine.

Eight. Seven. Six.

Five. Four. Three.

Two.
