So I thought what we could do today is focus on background sounds. This may sound a bit of a strange thing to do uh when you're aiming for sleep but actually there is a method to my thinking because I remember when I was younger and I think that's part of the reason why I do these sessions. When I was younger I used to really struggle to get to sleep and any little sound used to disturb me and the anxiety, the stress, the disruption to my mind was horrible but now background sounds instead of getting in the way of me sleeping I actually incorporate and they can become part of my sleeping.

They can somehow encourage me to sleep deeply because quite often I'm asleep during the day when there is more sound usually than there is at night time. So now I'm not pretending that I could get to sleep easily if there was a helicopter in the next room of course you know that would be or if fireworks were going off under the bed you know of course this kind of loud noises are gonna not be conducive to a deep sleep but that's just standard stuff it's like trying to eat a big meal on a full stomach you know you're already full up you've already eaten all you can now someone gives you a plate of food a big roast dinner something that perhaps you would love to eat normally but in this instance this scenario you can't so we're talking about a kind of standard situation for me at the moment there's the sounds of the birds and pretty much during the summer no matter what time you go to bed or what time you get up if you live near a tree you're going to get the sounds of the birds because of the days being short in the summer the birds start to wake up about three o'clock half three in the morning I'm usually awake at that time but even if I'm not I love the sounds of the birds because it's the most natural sound there is it's just beautiful and it's natural and it fits in to your mind it sinks in naturally and it can be part of the process called sleep as can a train in the background going past and of course a train you could hear it for a short period of time unless it was the world's longest train and it was traveling slowly the sound of a train lasts for a short period of time and you may have different sounds where you are in fact if you don't have different sounds where you are it means that you're living here with me because that's the only way you could have the exact same sounds but also need to have my ears because we're going to hear different things we're going to focus on different things what I find myself doing these days is not really focusing on the outside sounds but noticing them being aware that they are there and just accepting that there are sounds in the world that don't evolve around me that don't involve me they're just there and it's okay for them to be there and you are allowed to sleep deeply at the same time as those sounds being there it's like a dance of love a dance of sound a dance of sleep the birds in the trees don't care what you're doing what you're doing doesn't affect them at all so why should the birds in the tree their activities why should they affect you why should they get in the way of you sleeping no point to that so just then the train bibbed his horn the old saying when I was a kid was what else did he get for Christmas other than that horn that he keeps bibbing all year round but it's just a horn it's just energy it's just a sound that comes and goes it's gone as quickly as it comes like a fart in a hurricane hardly noticeable that might be my title of my life story a fart in a hurricane so your mind can feel relaxed your body can feel relaxed and any background sounds with a close by or in the distance are just there in the same way that the bed that you lie on is there but you're not constantly noticing it if you're wearing pyjamas or bedclothes they're there but you're not noticing them they're just there even the temperature of the room you probably notice it because I've mentioned it it can cause you to feel more relaxed in this moment and the temperature of the room is always there the air is always there and it rhymes with bear I like a nice bear I also like bananas and even if you're thinking about bananas bananas is just a thought that will leave such as in the same way sounds leave you just become accustomed to them being there providing you don't have someone starting to dig a well or digging for oil in your garden you can pretty much just relax just let go remembering that just the process of laying down touching your head on the pillow your body naturally feels heavy your mind naturally switches off you drift into a deep natural healing sleep and the bed that is supporting your body just like the sounds in the background that are there maybe all the time become less and less important to the point where you're not even noticing them and when you think about it you know that the bed is there supporting your body supporting your sleeping relaxed calm safe body and mind you know the bed is there you don't need to know the bed is there in order to know it's there just in the same way as if you were looking at a big chocolate fountain with marshmallows floating on the top you close your eyes and notice the big chocolate fountain with the marshmallows on top it's still there but the temptation of sticking your head into the big chocolate fountain or just jumping in completely and possibly ruining the wedding reception but it's still there as in the bed is still there supporting your safe healing relaxed sleeping body and the background sounds can just help you increase your sleeping to a level of complete calmness complete relaxation totally and completely relaxed letting go realising truly realising that you deserve peaceful sleep because you're a wonderful person you deserve to feel happy and a deep peaceful healing sleep is part of that process letting go relaxing and sleeping sleeping deeply sleeping deeply sleeping deeply
