Hello and welcome to Healing Thursday, Healing Thursday. My name is Jason Newland, please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. Right, yeah, I do six versions of this recording, one without music, five hours and ten hours without music, one with music and five and ten hours with music.
So they're all available to stream and also to download on my website. I also make a video, a ten hour version video, which is on YouTube, which you can watch as well. And I've got a Facebook group called Jason Newland's Boring Group, which you're welcome to join as well.
That was a very quick introduction, normally I spend about an hour introducing this. So I'm going to talk about recovery from a healing perspective, from a, not some kind of spiritual direction or perspective, but from a bodily healing perspective, you know, the actual body, because our bodies heal, don't they? And I'm going to focus on that aspect of our bodies, I mean, we say our bodies, it's our brain that's doing it, it's our brain that's stimulating those, I don't really know the dynamics of the healing process, because it's an automatic thing that happens, it's something that's always been there since we were born.
You know, you cut your finger and it heals, and a while later you look at your finger and there's no, not even a mark, it might not be for a few weeks, but it'll be healed over.
So our bodies heal naturally. So sometimes, you know, on a recording like this it would be, what can I do to help the healing, help it along, you know, kind of motivate it. There's also another side of looking at it, in a sense of, what can I do to stop getting in the way of the healing, or what am I doing that is slowing down the healing, because by being aware of that, and by eliminating that, we then open ourselves up to more healing.
I guess it's pretty basic, you know, by reducing negative thoughts, should generally increase positive thoughts, or at the very least neutral thoughts. So by decreasing negative thoughts and then focusing on increasing positive thoughts is probably the best way to go. And my stomach's gurgling, I've just eaten.
I don't know why it's gurgling, I'm not hungry. Although I could eat a KitKat, but I won't. Oh nice, a nice sponge cake with icing.
Actually a whole birthday cake, I could do a whole birthday cake. Sponge with jam in the middle. Mmm, mmm, mmm, nice cup of tea.
I could probably do a quarter of that, a quarter of a cake. Not a big cake. So that's a problem, I've cut down pretty much all sugar out of my diet, and for some reason I'm talking about it in a recording which has got nothing to do with sugar.
So I move on. It's the way the brain works sometimes. There's also expectation.
What we expect has a big, big, big effect on what actually occurs. Excuse me, I've got an itchy bum. That's better.
Ah, the professionalism. Hi Vinnie. Hi darling.
Don't worry, it's just an itchy bum. Good girl. You're such a good girl, yes you are.
So, if you expect, let's say for example, you was about to have an operation. For example, it's Thursday today, let's say it's tomorrow, Friday. You was having an operation.
Alright Vinnie, I don't really need you going on. Expecting for everything to go perfectly. Expecting to wake up feeling better than you did before you went to sleep.
Expecting for the healing process to speed up, and know that every day that goes past, you'll feel better, you'll feel more relaxed, and your immune system will become stronger. And your brain has taken that cue from the fact that you've had an operation. It knows why you've had the operation and what the reason for it was.
If there's been a part removed, why that part's been removed. Which then stimulates that part of your brain that puts the healing in process to make sure that if you had something removed that shouldn't be there, that it makes sure there's no more of that stuff. So once it's removed, it doesn't come back.
It's gone. Now, believing that things are going to be okay. Some people might think, well how? How do I do that? How can I be positive? Because I'm scared.
But being scared is not a negative thing. It's just a human thing. It's a natural thing to be concerned.
But you know, the more you start to believe that things are going to be fine, and you're going to heal, you're going to recover quickly, the less that fear is there. It's almost like, if you're in a plane, and you know, you're really 100% confident that the plane's going to land safely, then where's that fear gone? Is there any reason to have it? There may be a bit of discomfort.
Just the fact that you're 20,000 feet in the air, travelling at 500 miles an hour, I mean, in a metal tube, that might not be, like, this is a bit of a weird experience.
But maybe it's a different feeling. Maybe it's not fear. Maybe you're not worried.
Maybe it's, you're concerned. Why wouldn't you be concerned? This is your health. This is your life.
This is something that is natural to be concerned about. Maybe it's not worry. Maybe it's something else.
Maybe you're worried for your family. Maybe your family are worried, and that's kind of affecting how you are. Because it can be hard sometimes to be positive when the people around you are not positive.
Even though they're not meaning to be. They're, you know, they're just being who they are. So how can you be positive? How can you, without being fake? Yeah, this isn't about fakeness.
I can't bother with fakeness. Yeah, you can do the pretend it, pretend it till you make it thing, or fake it till you make it, which is useful at times. But if you start thinking about what, what in your life do you believe is going to happen? In your day to day life, what do you believe 100%? With no doubt at all.
I've used examples in the past, like, you know, the sun comes up in the morning. You may not see the sun because of the clouds, but you know it's up because it's, it's light. Now, I know there's some parts of the world where they don't have any light for like six months of the year or something.
I'm talking about generally on the planet, most places. What other things are you 100% certain of? And just to let you know, sometimes by listening to me, even though what I say might just be like blah, blah, blah, blah. Something happens in your mind.
Something can switch, change automatically in your mind, so that you feel better, you feel more confident, you feel more positive. And you might not really be sure why. Because at the end of the recording, you might be thinking, I just listened to this weird man for an hour.
Waffling on about all kinds of things. At one time he itched his bum, he scratched his bum. What is that all about? Why? And the rest of the time, it was just like cliches.
Oh, you need to be more positive. Blah, blah, blah, blah. If you believe something good's going to happen, it's more likely to happen.
Blah, blah, blah. But something weird happened. At the end of it, or during it, I felt quite relaxed.
I was kind of surprised at some of the things he was saying, because he was so unprofessional. Most unprofessional person I've ever heard. That's because I'm not professional.
I'm doing this just to help people, but I'm not a professional, I'm not a doctor. But then afterwards, because that's always like the little tester. How do you feel before you start listening to me? How do you feel during listening to me, you know? How do you feel 10 minutes in, compared to how do you feel halfway through? How do you feel after listening to me? Does something feel different?
Maybe something already feels different, and you're not sure why, and it makes no sense.
That you would feel positive, when maybe you weren't before. And you could listen back to this a thousand times and still not figure out why. Because you could just argue that I haven't said a single thing of use.
However, sometimes you just, I think you need the space. The change is there, it just needs the right opportunity. Maybe a distraction, maybe I'm a distraction, so that your mind can get on with it.
Your mind can get on with what you need. Your mind and your body can just do those things without interruption, without any kind of self-sabotage, without overthinking it. And by listening to me, talking, and it could be just one of the normal recordings I do, I could be talking about nothing.
But that distraction, that moving away, maybe the comfort of the familiarity of my voice. If you listen regularly, or if you're new, it might just be the novelty of my squeaky voice. It might be so distracting, you might be thinking, do people really listen to this strange man to relax and fall asleep? His voice is so grinding, how can they possibly fall asleep? But while you're thinking that, your mind can do what it needs to do.
It's much easier to vacuum the carpet when everyone in the house is out. You know, it's just, that's an example, it's easier to do that when you haven't got people, kids running around. It's just a little bit of space, we can get it done.
It's much easier to fix a toilet when no one needs to poo, that's what I'm saying. I had to take it to toilet level, but you know, it's hard to fix a toilet when you've got a queue of people. I need toilet, I need to poo, I need to poo.
But when you haven't got that distraction, you can just fix the toilet. And it might be a five minute job, instead of being a five hour job, continuously waiting for someone to finish what they're doing. And then of course having to wear a gas mask because of the smell.
And again, you could be thinking, I can't believe this is supposed to be a serious recording about healing, and kind of getting myself prepared for feeling more relaxed and positive about an operation or some kind of a healing process afterwards. And to have a real belief that you're going to heal naturally, as you always do. Which is what our bodies are built for.
And you might be thinking, and he's talking about toilets and gas masks. Yeah, that's how I do it. I don't think there's anyone else that does what I do.
There's a reason for it, probably, a very good reason. Because it's silly, that's why. There's also a benefit of not taking things too seriously.
Even really serious things. I'd say especially really serious things. And it's not that you're showing disrespect to your body or your mind, or to the people helping you, or to the people concerned with your well-being.
And it doesn't mean that you don't care about yourself, and you don't really expect, because you can still expect to heal naturally, and to have those processes that we are born with, to activate, so that not only does your body heal, you also have less of that discomfort that maybe you would have had before, because tension and stress and negativity can increase discomfort. It's just a fact, it's not an opinion.
It's a fact of matter, or a matter of fact.
I might have got that round the wrong way. So, what is it that you think about that you know is going to happen? And here's the question, here's the thing, and it's quite important as well. If somebody was thinking negatively in the same way as a matter of fact, then that's not going to be useful.
So, it's useful, what is useful is to notice if there are any of those thought processes occurring, so that you can manage them, maybe eliminate them, perhaps just fine-tune them, reverse them even, maybe, possibly, perhaps, in other words that have this similar meaning. Therefore, you can start to realize that how you think affects how you feel. We all know that, again, I might as well be telling you the grass is green, the sun is bright, blah, blah, trees blow around in the wind, the actual tree, the whole tree doesn't blow around in the wind, but it sways.
I mean this isn't really about trees, or grass, or the sun, I don't want people complaining, it's like, I wanted to listen to the recordings, I've got an operation on Friday, and I just wanted to kind of get in a positive mode, and prepare myself so that I could feel more relaxed, and just feel more confident that everything is going to go really well for you, and the healing process will be much faster than normal, and you'd be surprised at how comfortable you can actually feel before, during, and afterwards.
It will surprise you. And that's what I came to listen to, and he's talking about grass being green, trees flying around, or floating around in the air, the sun being bright, blimey, what's he on about? Well, some things are factual, aren't they?
There's a lot of opinions in this world, you might have noticed, a lot of opinions, and opinions can affect how we feel, because if it's a negative opinion, then we're going to feel, you know, I was talking to someone yesterday actually, and even though the subject matter didn't affect either of us, you could see that when she was talking about it, it was affecting her, in a negative way.
So, it's like, if you know that a subject, talking about a subject, has an effect upon you, then perhaps you can decide to choose whether or not you focus on that subject or not, if it gives you a good feeling.
I mean, you see, that's why I imagine a lot of people talk about something they're interested in, whether it's their favourite sport, whatever it might be, or people talk about their grandkids, or their children, or they talk about Vinnie, you know, it's just natural, because it feels nice, because you're focusing on positive, happy feelings, and it's not even a case of, by focusing on that and talking about it creates a nice feeling, it's almost like they're happening at the same time, and it's nice, it feels nice, and there's nothing wrong with feeling nice, what's wrong with being positive?
So, I'm not all into the fake positivity, it's like, OK, we can face what is real, what's going on, how are you really feeling, but at the same time, OK, now you've expressed that, how's it helping you? Is it useful? And right now, what you need is useful things. Don't need any of the other stuff right now.
OK, so if you're, you know, when you get into a canoe, you have a life jacket on, or a boat, you know, let's make it a bigger boat, I don't like canoes. I did get on a canoe once, when I was in the Sea Cadets, and why anyone would travel like that? It's just like, we have ships now, why would I travel in something like this? You know, you can get across the lake, we have bridges, but you don't turn up on a boat with everything, you don't turn up with skis, with all your belongings from your house for a day out.
You take what you need, you take what's relevant for you.
If you go scuba diving, you take your scuba diving equipment. You don't take your Lego set. You don't take your television.
I probably would, but, you know, the idea of scuba diving. I guess I'm not really into, water sports really, generally, I'm not really into water sports. I like to be above the water.
I don't know. The thing is, I haven't got gills, you see. So, mind you, even if you've got gills, you've still got to come up.
Have you? No, you haven't, have you? No, I forgot. I forget. Can fish breathe? I guess they must be able to breathe.
So, I never understood whales. How come whales, why would, why would a whale not have gills? It seems ridiculous, doesn't it? It lives in the sea from birth all the way through its life, in the sea. Never leaves the sea by choice, generally.
It stays in the sea. And it hasn't evolved gills. That's a very strange thing.
Very, very unusual, I think. But it can hold its breath for about, for hours and hours. Which again is like, wow.
Wow. Why not just give it gills? Does it know it's holding its breath? And again, you might think, well, what's that got to do with, with feeling relaxed before and after having like an operation or some kind of medical procedure and increasing your potential to heal quicker and to feel more positive, just generally. There's something to change in your brain where you go from potentially being unsure or not feeling great about it to actually seeing the positive side and realising the benefit of the procedure because it means that you can move on with your life.
And you can start to look forward to the future. And some people might think, well, what's that got to do with whales not having gills? I mean, I'm not sure. Probably nothing, potentially.
I've got nothing more to say on that one. I don't know. I just like to talk about stuff.
The tester is this. Do you feel more relaxed? Do you feel calmer in your body and in your mind? I could sit here telling you how to think and how to feel, but I don't want to do that. I could tell you, get you to focus on colours and focus on this light and entering your body, which is fine.
I've done all that in the past. There's loads of recordings that I've done that has that kind of stuff. But sometimes I think it's useful to put trust in your own natural healing ability.
That your mind has. And when I say your mind, I'm also talking about your brain. It's ultimately your brain.
Everything, your whole body is controlled by your brain. The healing process, all those chemicals or whatever it is that's put into action to heal your body. And those signals send down your spinal cord from your brain to the different parts of your body to relax those different parts.
And when your mind slows down, it automatically relaxes. It feels calmer. I sound a bit blocked up today, don't I? It feels calmer.
It feels calm. It feels, I mean it's going to feel different for everyone, but my mind is empty most of the time, to be fair. There's not a lot going on up there.
I'm just trying to focus on how it feels for me. Maybe you can focus on how it feels for you. There's something quite strange.
When the worry goes away, or those feelings, and you know what, I don't even necessarily want to call them negative because that can feel a little bit judgmental. Especially if, well, it's not negative, it's just realistic. I'm just concerned.
I'm like, okay. But when they go, when they almost melt away, first of all, it proves that they can melt away. Even if my stomach's heckling me.
That's very strange. I wonder why my stomach's going like that. I don't know.
Even though you know that when your mind is more relaxed, you can, I mean for me, there's a real sense of calm.
And when I start looking out of that space, you know, observing my body, observing my brain, observing what will be happening in the future, and thinking about maybe an operation that I might be having Friday, and how well it's going to go, and how good I'm going to feel, how good you're going to feel afterwards, and the healing process, how quickly that all comes through, and how peaceful you feel, knowing that your body is now set for the future, a wonderful future, and you'll be able to just move on, move forward with your life, wave goodbye to the past few weeks or months, and just focus and face the front, and move forward, knowing that that chapter is closed, and a new one is opening.
And when you're in that sense of slow, calm mind, expecting things to be really good, it's very easy, just assuming that everything will go perfectly well, everything will be just as it should be, and you'll feel so relaxed and peaceful, in fact you may be surprised at how peaceful you feel, you may be surprised at how you're acting, and you may be laughing after the treatment, you may not even understand why you're feeling so optimistic, why you are expecting things to go perfectly to plan, and it's not even a case of just expectation,
you know, you really know, that everything is going to be fine, you're going to feel so relaxed, so peaceful, and that healing will feel amazing, as you start to plan your future, it really can feel quite special, to know that all will be well, noticing how easy it is for you to completely let go, totally relax, so peaceful, now, as your mind, makes sure, that those, positive changes, stick, and stay, in a way, that allows you, to do, that you can, to plan, feeling, relaxed, and calm, feeling positive, optimistic, optimistic, and not only expecting everything to be fine, but also knowing with complete certainty, that you will heal, completely, completely, heal, completely, heal, completely.
