Hello and welcome to Let Me Bore You To Sleep. My name's Jason Newland, my website's jasonnewland.com and the second I start the recording Vinnie's on the floor begging for my attention. The second he was fast asleep.
So can you hear him? Oh dear, well you might want my attention but you're not gonna get it. No he's grabbed the ball now so he's gonna no he's he's happy he's gone back to his bed. So hello how are you? Remember please to only listen when you can safely close your eyes.
And relax so oh I haven't actually been I don't know when I last did one of these recordings. Let's have a look. It's been a few days.
It's 19th of May. It's now the 26th. What's that 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 seven days.
It's over four days. So yeah I did do a recording. I did a video a couple of days back and it was a stress and pain relief video and I converted it into a audio.
Number 47 talking nonsense. Now it was on the 24th so yeah 22 days ago. And other than that I've not I've not really been in the zone as it were as far as making podcasts or anything just lately.
Just you know it's just it's just it's just the way it is sometimes. Just the way it is. Um but yeah everything's okay.
The weather's starting to improve although today's a little bit overcast. It's it's not officially summer time yet. I think I think because it's the bank holiday weekend again this weekend.
I think that might be the official start of summer. I'm not 100% sure but around June time so end of May June. So we have June July August and then it's spring in September.
It's a spring no not spring autumn. So that's September October November. See he's he's whining now.
Well I just put him into the bedroom. I did uh gave him a treat chucked it on the bed and well landed on the floor actually if we're going to be completely honest. And uh hopefully he'll he won't disturb me for a little while.
He's a proper handful. I never realized but I've lived with dogs. I've never been the um I've never been responsible for the dog.
I just happen to have lived in a house like one two three four different dogs. So it's four different homes where there's been dogs. And I guess it did this wasn't because I didn't have any responsibility.
It was kind of easy for me. But with him with Vinnie he's and because he's so little he's young so full of energy. Ridiculous amount of energy.
He gets bored very easily. He wants my attention constantly. And I'm not enough for him.
I'm not. I know I'm not. It's like every relationship I've ever had I'm not enough.
He needs more. He really I think for him to really be happy he needs to be living in a family. A big family with loads of kids and maybe other dogs as well.
He'd be happy because he'd be active. It'd be you know something to focus on. And it'd be you know especially another dog to run around with.
Kids to play with. But instead he's stuck with me. And it might surprise you but I'm not the most exciting person to be around.
And I probably do come across as super exciting and you know full of pep and you know always running around and doing things fast and you know. But I'm not really like that in real life. I realize I've probably come across like that on these podcasts as someone with loads of energy and you know always whizzing around and talking fast and but I'm not really I'm quite a fairly quiet person.
And I guess in reality I've had a fairly dull life. Even too dull for myself. Now I don't want an exciting life necessarily but this is a little bit too dull even for me.
So for him it must be a little bit tedious. You know he just wants to be active. He wants to do things and I do feel a little bit guilty sometimes that I'm not he's not getting out more.
But I do take him out for like four or five times a day. For walks and I chuck the ball until he catches the ball and doesn't bring it back. I've got a neighbor who's got a little kid and he's got a little they they love him.
So they want to take him out and plays and he loves that. He loves playing in the park and that but running around. He loves everybody.
Vinnie does. He absolutely loves everybody. Oh by the way in case you don't know who Vinnie is this is the first time he listened.
He's my tortoise. And he's always chasing balls and running runs towards people. When he finally gets to them then they've gone been gone for hours because he's so slow because he's a tortoise.
But he's a good tortoise. He's not a tortoise. Why did I say he's a tortoise? Not a tortoise.
He's a worm. So he's a glow worm and he's not a glow worm. He's not.
He's a Jack Russell. A little Jack Russell. I don't know if you ever you mean it as opposed to a huge Jack Russell.
Okay yeah but some Jack Russells are quite sturdy. A thick set. A lot bigger than him.
Apparently he's a thoroughbred Jack Russell and Jack Russell's a little. I don't know how true that is and I don't care. All this thoroughbred and stuff shenanigans.
It goes over my head. I don't know. He's just a dog.
Well he's my boy. He's my son. He's Vinnie.
He's Andre's brother. Yeah it's Andre. Okay if those that don't know who Andre is he's my my first son.
Unfortunately not around anymore. He was a ferret and much loved. Very much loved by a lot of people and he's uh Vinnie is he's not the new Andre because no one can ever be replaced but he is he's my new boy.
My second. My second boy and I do wonder if that had got on. I think Andre might have tried to bully him.
I think because Andre was quite a forceful character. Not bullying in a bad way but I think he'd have he'd have took control and Vinnie would probably have laid on his back in submission. Especially as Andre would have been here first.
He'd be the older of the two but of course we'll never know because they're not well he's not here. Either that or Vinnie would eat him. I'm not sure one of those because that is in his nature.
He's a hunter in his nature and it does make me think about the old nature nurture argument. Not that it's really much of an argument these days. I don't think there's many people literally still arguing about nature or nurture.
There used to be but I do wonder. I think he's got all these inbuilt natural urges that I'm guessing he doesn't understand. He just does it.
Doesn't sit around journaling like oh yeah I woke up this today and I just had this urge to find a dead mouse and rub all over it and rub myself over it. I don't I don't know why. It's very strange.
So yeah I don't think he does that. I don't think he gives it that much thought but it is his natural instincts to do certain things and the hunting is within it. It's just within him and if he sees anything when we're in the fields it doesn't matter if it's a bird, a squirrel, a mouse, it doesn't matter what it is he chases it.
Now I don't know if he has the intention of hurting anything because I don't think he's got it in him. He's just full of love. I've never ever met anyone animal, human or vegetable that was got so much love inside him to everyone except me.
I'm the only one that he doesn't have that for but I think it's because he's with me all the time. He can't get excited at seeing me because I'm with him. How could you get excited about seeing someone that you see every day all the time.
You know you're with them all the time. You know when he sees my neighbor downstairs he's all excited oh uncle uncle uncle and then he's got his best friend and other dog like oh they're all excited. He sees me it's like oh it's you again.
You know I go out for a couple of hours come back and like oh you're back you're back then. Did you bring me any treats? No of course you didn't. Why would I want a treat? You know he expects treats for doing a poo now.
Literally he expects to be rewarded for doing a poo. Where's my reward for picking up his poo? I mean I you know I should get a special reward when I remember to do it with a bag. I broke my rules.
I mean I had a rule years ago never ever to pick up dog poo ever in my life. That was a rule I had and now here I am at least twice a day doing it and it's become just normal after just over five months because I got him middle of December. It's now getting on to the end of May.
January, February, March, April, May. So it's yes just over five months. Yeah because this would be boxing day.
Five months ago would be boxing day. 26th of December. I had him I think two weeks before Christmas.
The first week yeah I had him and it was during the snow and when the snow stopped well no the snow stopped. It snowed quite heavy and the snow stayed. Then of course it turned to ice like it does here and then it rained and all the snow all the ice completely gone in a few hours.
Completely disappeared. Now I was walking around the snow the ice in the fields all around the estate. I slipped a couple of times but I managed to keep my foot in.
I did fall over once in the field but it was snow I landed. I didn't hurt myself. As soon as the snow and ice had melted I slipped down the stairs and fractured my back in two places.
It's like what? It's just honestly you couldn't make well and say you couldn't make it up. I just did but it's like wow. Super careful.
I was super careful because I know that I've never enjoyed falling over. It's never been a hobby of mine you know. Never been something I've looked forward to like well I hope I fall over today.
No not really a thing for me and I've fallen over a few times. I've slipped over. I've hurt myself multiple times over the years.
Fell out the bath break in my wrist a few years back and as I kind of yeah as I get a little bit older I'm a little bit more careful. I've even got gloves that I wear in the winter and they've got like protective knuckles on them which means if I do fall over I'm not going to hurt my hands so I can land on my hands and you know to sort of basically to stop my to soften the the fall as it were.
Now I wasn't wearing them when I was walking down the stairs and it was just a really wet outside.
There was also water inside the lobby of the front door but I didn't think there was anything on the stairs but clearly there must have been because I bounced down about I don't know 100 steps or maybe six. I still remember it was almost slow motion very weird. I remember like falling and then each step was bouncing down each step on my back.
I think it's maybe because I've got such a huge bum it just it pushed me backwards maybe. Honestly I think I went up a few steps and down then a couple up up a couple more steps so I kept bouncing up and down so my honestly each cheek's like a bell. Oh dear each cheek is like a trampoline that's just wrong.
You know your bum cheeks are like trampolines no they're not why are you saying that you just said it more like big balloons. We used to have a balloon this um that's when I was a kid on the pier there used to be this big whale like not a real whale it was a hot not hot air but it was it was full of air it was like a bouncy like a bouncy castle but inside a whale if that makes sense.
And it one I used to go in there you should love it it was brilliant it was brilliant honestly huge thing and then one day it blew out to sea with kids in it.
So I said um let's see if I can find it online to prove that it's real a bouncy whale blown out to sea. It was an inflatable bouncy so this is on Facebook oh it here we go no that's a castle that's no good uh isn't it weird it's not on there but there is something uh there's a Facebook thing and it says let's have a look allow all cookies.
A lovely old photo of the pier this would have been taken mid-1970s from the terrace of the old pavilion.
My fondest memories were seeing the Bavarian Trompers play during the summer and me sneaking a secret sip of dad's beer.
Look you can see the old slippery slide yeah there used to be a slippery dip slide as well I remember that um I'm not sure I did go on it this is no sign of the inflatable bouncy whale on the pier though that came later so I wonder if anyone's put comments about it going blowing off uh all comments okay a few 11 comments oh come on it's not allowing me to look at the comments yeah it did happen though I'm not making it up Felix it did tragic video I
was talking about sharks now what there was no sharks a dead whale oh notes from a small island oh I guess it's such a long time ago because the 1980s no it's almost like the 80s didn't exist but it really did I I'm pretty sure it did exist yeah I'm pretty sure oh but as far as I'm away as far as I'm aware and well I don't know 100 but I'm pretty sure no one got hurt I hope hope that anyway but at the time I do remember that there was
no there was a couple of things that happened in the town that I lived there was a Townsend Torreson ship sunk um just off the docks and it was upside down let's have a look if that's on there as well Townsend Torreson ship upside down uh what happened roll on the roll-on roll-off vehicle and passenger ferry was a Townsend Torreson vessel 19th of December 1982 bound for mainland Europe in eight to ten winds force eight about a mile out it collided with oh it collided wow I didn't realize this oh
okay I feel it I didn't realize that it that people that oh well no one told me see I was a kid I was what uh 12 years old no one told me I guess the full story I didn't know that anyone um was even injured but they were so I'll stop talking about it blimey no one told me how weird I'd have thought that had been all over the news I mean it would have been in the news because oh wow oh well but it was 40 years ago 41
years ago I guess nearly I just I remember it because it was on its side for absolutely ages the European gateway it was called all right okay 1982 and yeah I mean there's is yeah yeah blimey oh okay it wasn't um there was a a huge one that happened a few years later but that's one that I just remember I didn't know that anyone got injured so I wouldn't have mentioned it I don't like to talk about stuff like that and there was the school shooting no no there wasn't Felix
de Bouncy was in the war oh it's almost like things are forgotten there was another thing the what other things happened in my town because this is a little town I lived in when I was between the ages of seven and 19 I just turned 19 when I finally got to escape and then I came back for a few months then I moved back so I went to London and I moved back to the little town then I moved back to London again and stayed there till 2001 and then I
moved away to another town which is now a city I think not far from where I used to live because my nan was there so I wanted to be closer to her I did nearly move back to that town twice once was when I was I think at university university because I needed to find somewhere to live and I found a place and I was going to move in there and then I changed my mind I kind of wish I hadn't now really because my nan was very upset because not
when I told her I was going to move there but when I said I wasn't because she she was looking forward to me being around more and that was part of the reason why I was going to do it but then I changed my mind and I don't quite know why it might I don't I don't remember why it might be more financial reasons than anything else the expense of traveling and I didn't have much money because at university so it would have been a lot of traveling involved and the
second time I was on the housing list this is 2015 and because I've got family in that town not including my nan anymore unfortunately but you know I've got family that live in that town still and so I put that down as one of my choices to get a council flat and also the town that I was living in and I did get a phone call saying oh you're the top of the list for this flat and it's it was literally just around the corner from where my nan used to
live and opposite the park that I used to play in when I was a kid when I was about eight and it's like wow this is you know it would be ideal it's pretty close to the town center just a little walk 10 minute walk to the town center shops there everything that you know would have been it would have been good because part of the reason I was thinking is that I could maybe be a bit closer to my family and maybe improve my relationship with my dad you know
just perhaps be there and spend a bit of time with my nieces and nephews because they don't really know who I am but nothing came of it they said oh you're at the top of the list we'll get back to and they never got back to me and then probably two weeks later maybe three weeks later I got an offer for this place where I'm living now to come and view it which I did it was the was it the April April 2015 and I came to look at it I
actually came twice previous as well because I had an appointment on the Tuesday it was a bank holiday Monday so I guess it must have been Easter or something like that so I came on the Friday and then I came again on the Saturday because I wanted just to look at what it was like now the Friday I came just because I think they gave me the appointment on the Wednesdays they come along on Tuesday I said okay and it was something like 8 30 in the morning so I first
I didn't want to be late so I wanted to find out I've never been here before so I wanted to find out where it was make sure that I knew the route so that I was here on time because it is a case of first come first served in those situations and there was other people coming to view it as well but I was I was the first and I had first dibs so I came on the Friday knocked on the doors locally just to see in the flat just to
see basically what it was like living there it was very quiet no one answered the door and I thought it was a quiet area and this was in the evening and I went to go home you know because I was living in town and there was no buses there was literally no buses and I was I had to walk the whole the whole way back which was about two and a half hours two hours two and a half something like that which in itself probably should have been a clue that
this wasn't a good idea to move here and then I got a bus and I came back on Saturday and I thought I'll come here during the day because that was in the evening I purposely came here early evening because that's generally especially on a Friday that just seemed like a time when it would be noisy if it's going to be noisy you know like a Friday evening Saturday evening and I thought also Saturday during the day because people maybe not at work they're off and see how noisy it is
if there's a lot of activity and again Saturday nothing very quiet I knocked on people's doors again no answer from anybody so I just I couldn't go into the flat because I didn't have the keys and but I could get into the front door because there was no communal door lock or anything had a little look around the area it looked nice so I went home I managed to get a bus back on the Saturday because it's during the day the bus is a little bit rubbish in the evening I
mean when I first moved here the buses were every 20 minutes to town and back or to town and into the there's two different towns or I think they're cities anyway but you know two different places and it used to be every 20 minutes then they changed it to every 30 minutes now it's every hour so there's one bus an hour and on a Sunday every two hours if it turns up so I don't travel on a Sunday because you literally got to get there half an hour before the bus
is due in case it gets there early otherwise you've got to wait another two hours and then wait for at least half an hour after in case it's getting there late so it's an hour wait for a bus that comes every two hours getting there on time isn't isn't really a thing but it is a thing but you know I've waited for over an hour for a bus in the past on a Sunday and I'm just like nah ain't doing that again so I don't I don't travel on a Sunday
I don't actually travel any day but you know I have in the past had a little go at traveling and I do I just haven't been out much lately apart from like locally with the VinVin walking him walking the VinVin the Vin job so I when I actually did come here on the Tuesday morning to view the property there was no lights but it was quite bright in here in the hallway is dark always dark there's no light in there's lights but there's no natural light in the hallway at all
so once you go out of the kitchen or the bathroom or the bedroom or the living room the little bit it's only a small hallway but you have you need the light on really if you want to see where you're going and which is okay but it seems a bit weird like in the middle of summer putting the light on but the rooms are fairly bright so that's quite good you know not all the time I mean there's times in the winter like November December January when it's so dull it's
literally almost dark at sometimes 10 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon it's like so I have to have the light on but during the summer although it's quite dull today for some reason but during it you know the windows are quite big quite big windows and don't know why I said it twice I guess just to emphasize the largeness of the windows they're not not huge they're not as it's not as big as a skyscraper or as big as a bus but they are big they're quite large windows
they're not tiny windows they're quite large that's what I'm saying they're quite quite large I don't know if they're unusually large they might just be normal size to be honest I don't know the the rooms are an okay size they're not tiny little rooms so that's that's okay and so I come in there I knock on the actually I was waiting outside because I didn't I didn't know which flat it was I forgot I knew which building it was and they phoned me so where are you I said I'm outside
they said well come inside then I said well I don't know which flat it is they said oh okay it's it's number 7043 I said okay Buckingham Palace Road okay okay yeah I know what road it says so I went in there and came upstairs had a look and the first thing the lady showed me was a storage room which was pretty big nearly as big as the room I was living in before which isn't true at all but it was fairly big a nice size I thought wow and then
she showed me that the hallway was dark but so was the store the storage room and I forgot about this it has its own light even when electricity goes off there's still a light in the storage room that goes on I don't know how I don't know how it works I'm not saying I don't know how electricity works which is true I don't but for some reason that light just works in the storage room I've not tested it during a power cut but when the when the fuse goes or the
the switch whatever thing you know you know when everything goes off maybe I turn the kettle on it just clicks a switch switches a click flips a flip or whatever it's called I have to go into the storage room and put it back on it doesn't affect the light in the storage room or the cupboard room or whatever you want to call it but the hallway was dark and I thought oh this is a dark flat and then then she showed me into the bedroom we lay down on the floor
had a cuddle no we didn't she's and it's like wow yeah it's a big windows she was even saying oh they're big windows I thought okay I can see I know I'm wearing glasses but I can see windows and they wouldn't be very good glasses if I couldn't actually see things that's the whole point of having glasses on and she said what are you talking about I said nothing nothing I was just just thinking to myself I thought it was inside I didn't know it was an out I was actually
saying it out loud and the room seemed fairly a good size and then we went into the living room and again the living room probably a little bit a little bit bigger than the bedroom but not by much there's not a lot of difference in it I don't think but it might be I'm not it's hard to tell I'd have to move I'd have to move all the stuff from the bedroom empty the living room move all the stuff from the bedroom into the living room like the bed and all
that stuff to see whether or not there's more space in the living room but I think there is even out of measure I guess that would be another way of doing it yeah that'd probably be an easier way yeah it would be wouldn't it yeah blimey the ceilings are fairly high not that I really need high ceilings because I'm only four foot two but still you know it gives a sense of space I guess the bathroom was nice when I moved in not so nice now and the kitchen was cool
as well again not not so nice now but it was it was okay all clean and tidy and not so much now but that wasn't lived in was it I mean things are not supposed to be clean and tidy if you live there are they please tell me that's true and the thing is I'm standing in the in the kitchen with a again lots of light there was no curtains or anything so there was no obstructions I guess although there might have been a bottle of cleaning liquid on the windowsill
of the kitchen but that wouldn't have struck too much light I guess unless it was a huge bottle but it wasn't it was just I'm not even sure if there was a bottle but she did give me some cleaning stuff that came with the flat and it was in a in a cardboard box if I remember and she said to me oh so do you want it I said what do you want the flat I said well I've got to make my mind up now I mean I've literally just seen
it I spend more time choosing toilet roll you know I don't just make decisions that quickly and she said well we do need to know pretty soon now at this point I'd pretty much just written off the other flat that was where my family live because I've not heard from them I just figured that they'd given it to someone else and I said well I don't really want to decide straight away you know you put me on the spot a little bit you know it's it's like being in a game
show like do you want to take the car or do you want to gamble for a million dollars like just give me a second will you but there's an audience here it's live we need to know now I don't know well that would have been a better decision more interesting one and I said oh I don't want to decide now you know because I really wanted someone to come and look at the flat with me before I decided because it's a it's a big decision well it for me it was
quite a big decision to make quite a big commitment and not always I've not always made the best decisions in my life and I could quite I kind of would have liked a more practical person to be with me to say well that's good this works this is you know let's have a look at the schedule for traveling can you get to appointments what the bus is like are there any shops nearby which there aren't and are there any dentists nearby which there aren't are there any doctor surgeries nearby which
there aren't you know there's nothing here but I didn't really realize that I didn't didn't I guess I didn't look into it properly and then she said okay we don't have to you don't have to decide now but we do need you to decide by this afternoon by three o'clock really three o'clock and I was pretty sure because I'd been pushed at the front of the list and I'd waited and I was at the front list I thought well if I didn't take what they offered me I'm not going to
be at the top of the list anymore am I because I've clearly turned down what they've offered me and that concerned me and I really really needed to get out of where I was living because it was moldy and it was not good for me and I said okay we'll sort it out at three o'clock and she got a phone call and she said okay yeah I'm still with the first person if you can just wait outside I said what's that she said oh it's you've got three other people viewing
your property and if you don't take it the second person will get offered it if they say no the third person will get offered it and I just thought that is so unfair for them to view the flat like it and then not get a chance to have it because I take it so I decided there and then yeah I take it now of course the people outside will be disappointed of course you know there's there's no way of getting out of that because they didn't get a chance to view
the flat but the fact is I think it's the disappointment would be higher well that's how I figured it the disappointment would be higher if they had viewed the flat and they really liked it got their hopes up and then didn't get it so I just um I said yeah I'll take it and they I had to fill in some forms and then I was given a date to go and collect the keys from the council yeah I think it was the next day or a couple of days later and
then I had to fill in a few more forms sign a waiver because there's asbestos in the roof and the ceilings and stuff so I had to sign away that and then they said I had to move in by a certain date that was a contract so it was like the following Friday I had to be in I had the keys but I had to have moved in by that date so I went to do this I went to I moved in and I kind of you know came in there
with the keys and there was no electricity but I knew there was the electricity was off but it was a pay-as-you-go that wasn't a pay-as-you-go meter was it yeah it was pay-as-you-go meter and I said I don't I don't know what to do I said have you got the electric and gas cards and they said no but you'll have to call up the companies and get them and when I called them up they said no there's a huge bill on both the electric and the gas I said it's not under
my name you know I've just taken over the contract the tenancy and they said well in that case it's going to take 10 days or a week or something before we can come and put in a meter and I said well and I don't want a pay-as-you-go meter I want a normal meter with bills I don't know actually they did give me a pay-as-you-go to start with and then I changed it over because I didn't want pay-as-you-go but I knew that if I got pay-as-you-go and they continued it from the
person that lived there before I'd be paying off their debts and I said I'm not doing that you have to come and sort it out because it was hundreds of pounds in debt on the meter and I think the person that lived here hadn't been here for ages so not only had racked up a debt but every day money was being added to it because the daily charge for electric and gas I don't know how long the person hadn't lived here for officially but I noticed she had a couple of
huge dogs apparently and all the doors it looked like a werewolf had lived here because there's scratch marks on the insides of all the doors I could have replaced them by now but I haven't I could have done couldn't I it wouldn't be that difficult to just replace the door but I didn't do it because I couldn't be bothered I'm very good at laziness so luckily well not lucky I couldn't move in there because there was no heat it was still fairly cold because it was still you know beginning of
April it was still cold outside still cold at night no heating no electric no lighting no way to cook food no hot water anything yeah I was supposed to be in here by the end of that week basically the Friday and it wouldn't be until the following Friday that they had the electric and gas on so what I did is I stayed in the other place until the end of the I gave my notice and I stayed there until the end you know until I was able to move in here
and it was weird because the landlord of the other place was saying there's no mold in here I said yeah it's moldy there's mold all over the floor all over the wall rather inside the cupboards I've had to chuck away clothes I've had to chuck away books and he kept denying it no he said you need to wash the walls you need to keep the air in I had the windows open constantly nearly all day and but I couldn't leave them open when I was out because it was on the
basement so no one could just get in and as it was people used to climb in the windows of their flats whether they lived there or not I don't know but they used to climb into other windows other flats windows so I thought I can't leave it open but because it was basement there was no I guess it was just underground wasn't it so it was there was mold and he kept saying there's no mold it's not moldy it's your fault it's no mold and I cleaned the flat and I
said he came around to inspect it this is before I'm just going to move out he said no it's not clean enough I said really and I spent I spent at least 10 minutes doing it so I said okay I'll get a professional cleaner in got professional cleaners in and they said it's moldy we can't get the mold off so there's two professional cleaners came in it cost me about 150 quid something like that maybe more and they scrubbed the place and they could not get the mold out and I
said can you put that on the invoice just put it on there just and show so I can show him and they did so we can't remove that because it's mold and they were there and the landlord because I took one of the doors off of the cupboard to let some air in so that the mold didn't get any worse so it could have continuous air in there so that all my clothes didn't all get ruined and he was annoyed because I took one of the doors off of the cupboard
it's like an inbuilt cupboard so he was in there putting the cupboard door back on and the cleaners were in there doing the cleaning and I said I'll come back in a little while because used to see how you got on and I got my friend to come back with me because that was the last time I was going to be entering that building and I said I just need someone with me I don't want to go in I don't want to be there on my own because just this bloke's
winding me up just just come on and she came with me I said there you go forget the deposit so he didn't pay me the deposit back I said just forget it so I don't have to see you again because he was arguing he basically wanted to keep the deposit he he seemed okay when I first moved in but it was my experience just a typical landlord and I've had 20 25 30 years of landlords landlady's landlords and there's a fairly common streak amongst the ones that I've had and I've
had probably 40 different landlords and landlady's they've not all been bad but there's there's a certain um I don't know a certain quality that a lot of them seem to have had and that might just come from doing that kind of work but I I just said to him keep the deposit there's your keys bye bye and I left and the the cleaners got paid you know I paid them and that was it I was friends with a person that still lived next door to me in that place and I
saw him and I said uh so what did he do did he sort out did the landlord sort out the mold and he said no just painted over it in fact he didn't but he got my friend to paint over it he says no what's the word for that I think I don't think it's morals it might be morals but just no um no something I don't know what it is I don't know what the correct term I'm looking for but mold it's not like it's painting over graffiti I can't
get the graffiti off don't worry I'll get rid of the graffiti and then it's paint over it that's not really an issue because that's kind of what you would do with graffiti anyway probably but it's kind of that but mold I mean I had I had slugs I had snails not snugs slugs and snails coming into my house coming into my room getting in I know how they got in and just like crawling around the floor at night it was weird the sad thing about it is I was so pleased
to move there when I first got there and I was there for three years I got there in 2012 after living in a place that was just awful during 2011 really awful place nice nice place nice room but just the atmosphere in the house was awful the people that lived there didn't get on particularly some got on then they didn't get on then they did then they didn't and it was weird a very weird situation so I had to get out of there at the first option and once my year
contract was up I moved out plus I couldn't afford it it was costing me 125 pound a week to live in that room so I moved out and the one I moved into was 85 pound a week so there's a big drop in you know expenditure plus I was earning very little I was self-employed counsellor at the time and I had very little money so 85 was doable I could do that I could manage that so I was grateful to have that place and it had a little kitchenette and it
was very small I mean there was a single bed it was like a well I can imagine the prison bed that he removed and I got myself my own bed single bed there wasn't enough room for a double bed it wasn't wide enough for a double bed so it gives you an idea kind of size of the width but it was fairly long not long long but it was you know it was small and it was very dark because it was basement but I was grateful to be there it was
like almost like when I first moved in there peace at last bit of peace and I was grateful to have it because it was cheaper I could afford it and it was situated well just it's just up the road from where I used to live and across the road from a supermarket a little mini supermarket five minutes from town so everything was ideally situated didn't realize about the mold at the time because it was all freshly painted of course this smells very fresh paint that's so I didn't really think about
it at the time I didn't couldn't even like why would that be there was a laundry across the road so that was handy as well and a little kitchenette so I could cook a little like it was like a camping oven you know with one hob on top maybe it was two I think it's one hob on top you know you cook pan cook your water or whatever cook something and a little tiny little ovenette thing that you could put wasn't really big enough for a pizza but big enough for
maybe a frozen meal or something like that and I had a toaster and a kettle that I bought so yeah it was it was okay it did me for three years plenty of kitchen like cupboard space so it was all right it's there was a table and chair so I got them taken out as well because it was taking up way too much room squashed them right in the corner of the room like you couldn't literally move you'd be stuck in the chair stuck against the wall and the table this
kind of strange really four four people couldn't couldn't even fit into that room so he got rid of them for me and he moved the bed out and I put my own bed in there got a new bed and just a single one and I bought a second hand chair like a sofa chair you know and comfy that was in front of the bed in front of the window and then I had a desk I think there might be a desk that was in there I used that a table or
something that was that's where I put my television on and I basically ate on the table on the chair just on the chair and I'd eat you know have it on my lap or whatever and do eat like that and yeah and I'd use a laptop I use and I have it on my lap and I'd make videos have that on the table with video camera or audios and I'd make videos and recordings audio recordings podcasts and stuff from there and that's how I lived for three years and it was
kind of strange to be honest kind of strange very noisy because there's a school opposite and the playground was right at the front of the school or maybe the back of the school so maybe the back of the school was where my road was so thinking about it might be in the back of the school but it was a school that had all the all years pretty much from little kids up to adult you know 16 17 year olds said it'll be at break time at different times and it'll also
be playing sports so it was pretty much the whole day there'd be kids out there yelling and screaming and grunting and all kinds of weird noises and have these whistles going off because you know they're playing sports basketball and all that kind of stuff football and yeah it was very noisy but at the weekend very quiet so ideally situated if this flat was there not in that building but if this flat was as close to town as that was my life would just be so different because I'd be really close
to everything and I could just walk and get some shopping as it is I need to get deliveries get stuff delivered food um used to be able to get my prescriptions delivered but I have to collect them now but I take turns with my neighbor collect his he collects mine from the pharmacy so yeah it's kind of ideally situated but and the other place was ideally situated as well but they both were not ideal in any other way although I did enjoy when I moved to the second place the you
know the basement the dungeon it was quiet at night generally you know there's once the school closed there was a degree of peace it's like oh okay and it was all right I did three years there but you know it was it got I think it was it was affecting my health in the end but it's and then I moved here yeah so that's that's it that's that story I don't don't know why I'm talking about this and now I want to get out of here yeah oh yeah this that's
what I was that's what I was talking about about two weeks maybe three weeks after moving in here got a phone call are you still interested in the flat the flat that's near my family what I've just moved in here I am interested but it's too late I can't move in here then go and move somewhere else I've already signed the contract so it's too late amazing really amazing couldn't believe it there you go so yeah it was a bit of a weird whirlwind of weirdness yeah a bit like my
mind and my toilet a very weird space so yeah that's the story of moving in here really there was other things that happened I mean within about I think two weeks or a week or so of moving in here I fell out of the bath and broke my wrist so that that was weird because that was that's before I even got a carpet in there before the I even painted the walls so it must have been fairly soon in and then eventually got a carpet got a double bed because I
brought a bed with me the single bed so I got rid of that got a double bed then I got a cooker and a fridge yeah that was delivered before I even moved in so that got delivered and I before I even officially like properly moved in and then a neighbor gave me a washing machine that was absolutely rubbish didn't work properly straight away and I'd literally carried it all the way up the stairs with my with my neighbor probably the heaviest thing I've ever lifted and it didn't work so
in the end I bought a new new washing machine which one of the most expensive things I've ever purchased at the time and they took away the old one which was good and I imagine it's worth a little bit money for the spare parts and yeah I think at the same time I purchased the bed double bed and yeah got the carpet so that that's the most expensive things really is the washing machine the double bed and the carpet but once I got those I didn't really need anything else because
I had a table that I inherited from my nan so my dad kept that for me and gave it to me when I moved in so I had some chairs for the table my neighbor gave me a settee and I already had a television I bought a cooker as well that's it I bought a cooker as well so before I moved in I had a cooker fridge and did I already say cooker didn't I I think I did cooker fridge and I got a microwave a couple of years later and
then my dad gave me a freezer which was like a about the same size as the fridge because the fridge just had a little bit of a freezer compartment at the top so you put that on top of the so they're on top of each other but there's a I don't know what you want to call it the counter you know the kitchen counter there's it's on top of that so it's not they're not actually on top of each other but they are kind of and then I bought myself a
freezer a couple years later which is it's much better for me because I can get into it easier it's one with a lid that comes off you know from the top I just lean down and get stuff rather than crouch right down to try and find stuff in the bottom of the other freezer so I kind of use both really one for stuff that I don't need to get to very often and because of the because they've got those little doors you have to like slide open and you know I
just keep things like bread in there so that's fairly easy to get to but the other stuff the freezer with the top I don't know what they call a chest freezers are they the things I don't eat so much I put right at the bottom and the things I have regularly have at the top and no one can say this has been boring this has been a very exciting recording I'm sure you agree and on that note I'm gonna go because I think there's only so much excitement anybody can take in one day so take care of yourselves remember to be kind to yourself be gentle lots of love bye bye bye bye
