Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland. This is Let Me Bore You to Sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes.
Your eyes. So hey, how you doing? How's it going? Is everything okay? And relax. I didn't make a recording yesterday.
Oh my voice went all croaky. I don't think I made one the day before. What I've been doing is trying to, well, I have been updating my website.
So my website is all updated now. That's pretty much the same sentence twice, isn't it? I kind of, so what is it, June now? I think I'd uploaded all the latest recordings up to about the 4th of April. Now, I didn't think it would take that long, but there was a lot of recordings.
I do a lot of stuff, you know, over like a month period. I do record a lot of podcast episodes. It just, I don't realize how many there are until I am uploading them to my website all at the same time.
And it took, it took, took, took two days pretty much to do it. And that's, you know, making a new page for each episode, putting all the information in, and then also uploading the actual recording for people to download for free, or stream for free. Because everything's free, baby.
It's all free. And I'm thinking of moving the microphone a bit further away because this isn't doing my belly any, any favors. I need to cover up.
I need to have something up to about there. So I look like I might, I might be slim, but I'm not slim. But the illusion, the illusion, it's just like if I sit like this facing you, in my mind, I don't have a bald patch at the back of my head.
But if I turn my back on you, or if I turn my, if I go like this, I still don't have a bald patch because this is in the way. However, if I do this, I don't know if you can see it. Can you see my bald patch there? Maybe you can't see it.
Maybe there isn't one. I mean, that's my philosophy. If I can't see it, it doesn't exist, which means I haven't had a penis for 20 years.
Oh, okay. That's nice. Daddy, what's a penis? Oh, yeah, I realize there might be children listening.
So Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, Willy, do the things he said he's going to do. So I've got all my lights on. It's a bit warm in here, actually.
It's a little bit warm. And so I got one, two, three, four lights, which is what I need. I need, you know, to keep.
Well, that's the thing for a video, you need light, need a lot of light. And I never, I've done some stuff in the past, I've tried to improve and I've had a light right in front of me, but then it's glaring off my glasses, which is no good. So I got this, it's more of a professional setup.
There's three, it's like a, it's a kit and it's three lights that are very bright. And I've got, it's for this reason, really, you know, or photography or something. So one there that's shining kind of down on me, one over there, which is shining from that angle, and then one to the side, which is shining to the side of me.
I probably could do having one perhaps there as well, or maybe one just above me. But I've got the light over there, which is kind of above me. So unless I go like that, you can't see the light shining.
And you know, up the no shot isn't always the most pleasant. So as long as my head's like normal, you can't really see the light in my glasses. I can make it higher.
So if it was okay, so if I was, let's say if I was human man height, instead of being the tiny little thing that I am, I could, I mean, it would be directly in my face. So I could, you know, put it up higher and have it come down. So that was boring, wasn't it? It's very boring.
I mean, there's an extension on one of them where you can have it literally above your head. But and there's also these, they're almost I don't know what they are, but there's things attachments that attach onto them. And they're kind of like umbrella.
I don't know things. So I think it directs the light a bit better. But I couldn't figure out how to attach them.
So I think they're okay as they are. I've got a bit of a croaky voice today. Ah, that's better.
That's all I needed was just some tea. My voice is silky smooth now. So I hope you're all right.
Hope you're okay. Had some lovely messages. And let me see if I can get it onto this laptop.
Google Gmail, Gmail, Gmail. Nope. Must be the other email.
So I had this message sent to me and I've not I've not read it out yet. I know I have to sign in for that one. I don't know how to sign in.
I don't know what the password is. To be fair, I can probably do it on this one. Okay.
Right. So if I go back to a message, Monday was Oh, okay. That's Monday.
Was it Wednesday now? Okay, this is from Michelle. Just wondering if you stopped your recordings completely or if you're with your schooling or what? I keep looking for new additions, but see nothing on the horizon. Shall I keep looking or shall I move on? I miss your input and daily insights.
It would be sad to see you go. I will remember your effect on my life over the past few years. Hoping to hear from you again.
Love and respect, Michelle. So I'm a little bit confused with that because I know that I haven't updated the website. So if if that's the place that this is to Michelle Reid or to anyone else that's listening, or watching, if you're, if that's the main place you get my recordings, then I apologize.
I will try and keep that updated. But all the podcasts automatically update when I upload stuff. And I did go a week, I think without making anything new when I was having a break.
But generally, I'm still when I got back, I still made a few recordings since I've been back. And it might not be like every single day, although it will be soon. Can you hear that? It's the motorbike man.
Bless him. And so yeah, Michelle, I did reply, I think it's that I've updated the website and all the new recordings all on there, which they are. But the podcasts themselves, you know, like Spotify.
Not iTunes now, is it? Apple podcasts, all the other ones should be updated that, you know, as soon as I upload them on Spreaker, which is my post, they should just automatically update. So I don't know, I'm gonna have to go through and check. I've checked some of them, everything seems to be fine.
But I'm gonna have to do a bit of a, is it reconnaissance mission, I have to go and check through to make sure that everything's as it should be. But yeah, I'm definitely still around. I will occasionally have time off, I'll occasionally, I might take the occasional month away where I don't do anything for a month.
That's very rare. And that hasn't happened for a long time. But it has happened in the past, you know, I mean, I've been doing this for 16 years now.
So occasionally, I'll take time off, perhaps illness or, you know, bereavement, you know, just, you know, those kinds of things, life stuff. I'm pretty, I'd say I'm pretty regular, I think. So yeah, if there's a, I mean, it's good to, I mean, if you if you're wondering, have I stopped doing it, then yeah, contact me because it's, that's the one way to find out, isn't it? But I genuinely have no intention of ever stopping.
I might slow down at some point when I'm in my 90s. I might, I might only manage to do one a week. Might only be I managed to get it up once a, you know, once a week, the internet and stuff.
Will we even have internet? Then it'll be something different, won't it? I mean, what a blimey, that's a long time away. So still doing it. And you know, I appreciate all messages I get.
Thank you. So yeah, I think I did reply. I'm pretty sure I replied to you, Michelle.
And, you know, I appreciate you watching and listening and, and the kind words that you say. So it's, it's nice. But I haven't been gone that long.
Well, I didn't think I've been gone that long. So but I'm here and I have been around. I haven't, you know, now I've uploaded the website or updated the website.
Everything should be groovy. And I just bashed the microphone. Yeah, brilliant.
Right. So I'll just quickly read this message I got. This is from I don't know who this is from.
Oh, CW. Highly recommended podcast. This is a set it left a review.
Highly recommended podcast. I've tried many different ones over the years and think that let me bore you to sleep is by far the best. Most meditative podcasts are spoken by people who sound utterly depressing and or have some kind of gloomy music that never fails to make me miserable.
feel miserable. I'm thankful Jason Newland is not using music has an optimistic very calming voice. And additionally makes me giggle a lot.
Unfortunately, I only managed to stay awake five to 10 minutes even though I try not to fall asleep that quickly. As I want to hear more. Well, thank you.
I mean, I do I do use music. But the the original that I do one recording. There's got no music than the next one.
Then I do a version with music in the background for the same length. Then I do a five hour one in 10 hour one with music combined with me talking or affirmations or whatever or counting down things like that. So I appreciate that.
I keep banging. There's not enough room here for me to move and to maneuver. So this is 0407.
And so I wrote this person said, I said thank you and I posted and they said you're more than welcome as every word I wrote is absolutely true. And I would have given you more stars if possible. Now I'm somewhat shocked that according to the latest podcast, I partly heard that you have some kind of midlife crisis.
I was also very surprised to hear how many listeners you have and how successful you actually are. And rightly so but why the midlife crisis? I might have missed the answer to that if there was one, as I always fall asleep. So I only hear about 10 minutes at a time.
Maybe you need a new pet. At least it might help. I myself have adopted two stray dogs and a stray cat.
So don't really have time for midlife crisis or some other things I actually really would like to do. Otherwise, I would have had one for the last 10 years at least. Ever since I moved to China, I guess.
But don't you feel good knowing that you help so many people and that we need your podcast. You help us all not getting depressed for constant lack of sleep alone. And I've also partly heard the podcast where you say that you have sleeping problems yourself.
Okay, I won't read this next bit because this is a this is pretty sure you want me to read that bit out. I really hope that you swiftly overcome your midlife crisis and could feel more satisfied with hundreds of thousands of happy listeners. We all love you and need you.
Thank you. That's from clear. So thank you very much.
That was the same person that sent the original message. I thought there was another message that I replied to that I got. Seriously, I thought I had maybe I'm just losing track of time.
Because I know I did read out messages. Okay, so I'll come out of that. Make sure that it's recording.
Okay, good. So, yeah, as far as a midlife crisis goes, I think I've been going through one since about 2001. I think, I think it's kind of a mixture of as I get older.
And there's things I'm kind of seeing, you know, just having arthritis in my lower back, causing a few difficulties with my physical movement, I can still move around and, but there's pain, and I do have a degree of pain, I can manage it. But I start thinking, Oh, well, I'm able bodied. I've still got, I'm, well, hopefully, as far as I know, I'm still healthy enough to sort of do stuff physically anyway.
And I'd like to, I'd like to do more with my life. I'd like to, I don't know, I don't even know what that means. If you know what I mean? Why would you know? I mean, if I don't know what it means? Who knows what it means? Let's all have beans.
I don't know. I just, that's my poem for the day. I, as far as sleeping issues goes, I have a weird sleeping pattern.
I have, I really, rarely have any issues with sleep, getting to sleep. I do wake up sometimes. Well, I wake up every, every night, at least once, sometimes twice just to go to the toilet.
That's just a middle aged issue that men have. And I think my prostate's fine. I mean, I haven't checked it this week.
But I, so I'm just going in a different direction in my mind and relax. I, as far as sleeping goes, I can fall asleep fairly easily. I do seem to sleep better during the day sometimes.
But I haven't been up at night, all night, for quite a while. It's got to be a good six months, maybe the whole of this year. Because before, for years, I was up all night long.
I'd be up till sometimes eight in the morning and I'd go to bed. And I'd be, you know, and I'd be working on my website, making recordings, stuff like that. Because there's not much else to do.
You know, it's not really anything much on telly. Yeah, I could stream stuff, I could watch Netflix or whatever. But it's not, you know, it's not a lot going on.
Can't go out, can't, you know, can't go shopping, you know, not three in the morning. So it kind of, it was quite good to get me to focus on doing what needs to be done, like updating the website and, you know, making that free time to, my voice is croaky today. I just can feel it like, it's croaky.
Maybe if I speak like this, it will be less croaky. But I'm not. Oh God, my voice is getting even croakier.
What's that about? Yeah, oh, that's, yeah, it's a little bit better. Maybe. Maybe.
I was born under a wandering star. So yeah, things are okay. Midlife crisis.
I don't know. I don't know. I can't, I'm not, I don't think that I would want to get a new car, a new sports car.
I mean, firstly, if I was able to drive and I had the finances to do such a thing. I don't think I'm quite in that frame of mind. I don't think so.
I guess the need to do something different, something new, maybe something interesting. And because recently I did do something that was new and I guess quite adventurous and interesting, that I thought that that would satisfy, look at my hair, I thought that that would satisfy my itch, you know, that would scratch the itch that I had. Because I'm not, I've never been a traveller.
I've never, like, never really wanted to necessarily travel the world or see new places that not had a huge enthusiasm for such things. And I don't think I've even got that now. But there are certain activities I'd like to do.
Certain things I'd like to, there's some places I'd like to go to. I'd like to go to America. I'd like to visit Australia.
And I'd like to go to Norway. I'd potentially quite like to go to Japan and China. Maybe, I don't know, just to sort of visit.
I've never been to Germany. I mean, it's all these little countries. Well, they're not little, but all this, this area, not far from where I live, really, you know, across the channel to France.
And then you've got all these countries all sort of connected. So Germany, I've been to Belgium, I've been to France, I've been to Bulgaria. And I've been to Ireland, although of course Ireland's not connected to that lot.
So I've been to three of the countries that are connected. Like, well, I know Bulgaria's a bit further away. So, you know, I've not been to Germany.
I've been to Spain as well. So I've been to Belgium, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Ireland, Thailand. Is that it? I think that's it.
So six countries, seven, including this country. Isle of Man, is that another country? It's not, is it? So that's just a part of England, I think. Well, it's not, is it? It's an island, so it's not really a country.
Mind you, Ireland's an island. Is it the island of Ireland? What's that all about? The island of Ireland? It's never called the island of Ireland, it's called Ireland. Until what, Brexit? I don't know what the heck that's all about.
I don't know. So you got, so six countries, there might be another one, I can't remember. So I've not, I'm not travelled, I'm not well travelled.
And that's over, you know, 52 this year, 51. So it's not a lot of places in my life. I've also been to Dubai.
But that was just the airport. I never got to leave the airport. But I have been to the countries.
I've been to Dubai. So I suppose that's another, that's the seventh country. I couldn't afford to go to Dubai.
I'm pretty sure that even all the money I'd spent on all the holidays over all my lifetime wouldn't pay for five days in Dubai. It's not a cheap place to go to. It's, it's, it's, we're all a billion.
It's, it's, it's just, it's, everything's the best of the best. The hotels, restaurants, you know. And I think it's, I mean, I might be wrong.
Don't, you know, don't, don't sue me, please, Dubai. But it looks like it'd be an amazing place to visit if you got money. And I don't think it'd be much fun to go somewhere that's expensive, and to live really cheap, you know, to sort of live on a, to have a holiday on a budget.
If everything's so expensive, and you just can't buy anything, and you have to limit yourself to what you eat, and that doesn't sound like much fun. Not much fun at all. So yeah, I mean, technically, I've been to Dubai twice.
And I spent many hours there. Many, many, many hours. But I didn't actually get to leave the airport.
So, but it's still there. I mean, isn't an airport like almost like a neutral zone? I don't know. I don't know where I got that idea from.
I think it was the Tom Hanks film Terminal, when he was played a, I don't know, a foreign man, or whatever. But his country had been taken over, and he wasn't allowed to leave the country. But it was, the airport was classed as like a neutral place for him to live.
Well, not live, but to stay or whatever. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense, does it? Hmm. So I was videoing this, but now the video is gone. So there was a disruption to the video.
So this is just going to be a podcast. It's a lot of hassle making videos, especially when I get interrupted. See if I get, which I was just now.
And so if I get interrupted with the podcast, I just press pause and go off. With the video, if I press stop, because I can't pause the video, which means then I'll have to start, make another video and splice them together. Which isn't, you know, it's doable, but it's a hassle.
Or if I just let the video keep running until I'm back in the room. You're back in the room. And, and yes.
So in the end, I just, I just deleted it. Well not deleted it, stop recording, I will delete it. I might.
Maybe. Anyway, I'm doing a I'm doing a podcast, at least I'm doing this. So it's something isn't it? Yes, it is.
Hmm. Oh, kill me. I love you.
Kill me. My little baby. Kill me.
I'll stop. I've stopped now. I apologize.
Here's something you haven't heard for a while. Don't say I never give you anything. So, um, yeah, things.
I was just watching the news. And I can't stop. I can't stop watching the news.
It's ridiculous. Really, really, really ridiculous. They're trying to scare everyone.
Like and it's working. Trying to absolutely terrify this nation. And I don't know why I tell you the best way to watch the news, watch it with a foreign language.
It really takes the edge off. Takes the sting out of it. Seriously, I watched the news when I was on holiday.
And wasn't emotionally affected by anything I watched that I saw, because it was showing people talking and I didn't know what they were saying. Much nicer. Really.
And in Thailand, they're not that bothered about what's going on in this country. In England, England's not important to them. They got their own country to focus on.
And they didn't seem to particularly interested in what's going on in parts of Europe. They're interested in their own country, because Thailand's a very big country. So they got their own stuff to focus on.
And that was quite nice. It's like, okay, because the world doesn't evolve around this little island that I live on. It does for the people living here, perhaps, but not for the rest of the world.
Can sometimes feel as if the news that we get here, that's the most important thing that's going on in the world. But the reality is, everyone's got their own things that they're focusing on, aren't they? I've got a neighbor that's obsessed with America, the American news and what's going on in politics in America. And I said to him the other day, I'm not really interested.
We've got our own politics here. We've got our own stuff in this country to really be focusing on. Why are you focusing on another country? It's none of our business.
It's no more any of our business than what's happening in any other country. It's not our business. This is as far as the politics go.
I mean, there's enough going on here with, I don't know if anyone, I'm not, you know, I don't talk about politics really, but this week, I get, I do get a little bit excited by it sometimes. There was, the prime minister here had a what's it of no confidence. So a certain amount of MPs put a letter in and then they had a vote of confidence about whether or not they wanted to basically get rid of him.
And out of 320, I think 149 went against him. So he, you know, he won it. He won the no confidence vote.
So he's still the prime minister. 149, it might be less, but it's about that kind of number. That's a lot of people, isn't it? A lot of people in his party, you know, in his MPs that are against him.
I mean, that's a lot of people. That's, I mean, it's nearly half, nearly 50% of his MPs either don't like him or, you know, that's, can you imagine if you had, if you was, I don't know, you were the boss of a company and half of your workforce didn't like you, especially if those people were in positions of really, you know, messing things up. You'd want to, you'd want them out, wouldn't you? Get rid of them.
Because, you know, if they're, imagine some of them work in accounts and some of them work in the IT department and if they wanted to, they could ruin everything, you know, they could not, if they don't do their job properly. Wow. Wow.
Wow. Oh, a couple of weeks ago, I was walking down at the beach, the promenade of the beach in Thailand and there's all these females and there's lots of people walking past one of the ladies shouted out to this young man and he was quite, he was probably in his 20s or whatever. She shouted out, oh, handsome man to him and then he kind of carried on walking.
She shouted out, love you long time and we all just started laughing because, you know, it's from that movie, isn't it? Forget the one, the one that was based in Vietnam, but it's a very famous line, love you long time and obviously she knows it as well. That's why it was a joke and just it's very funny. Honestly, there was a bunch of us just laughing and that's the end of that story already.
That was it. And then I went and looked at the sea. I looked at the sea and I wondered what would it be like to go into the sea, but I didn't go into the sea because I can't swim.
I can't swim. I can swim, but I can't. And the, what do you mean? What do you mean? Well, I can, but I can't.
I mean, I can swim the width of a swimming pool, unaided, you know, I can do that. But don't plonk me in the middle of the sea, you know, that's fully clothed, like no, no. But I think where I was on holiday and those boat trips to the islands and stuff, some beautiful islands apparently, I don't know how safety conscious they are as far as everyone wearing life jackets and whether the life jackets would even work.
So, yeah. Not a swimmer. Can't fly either.
I'm not much good. I'm the worst superhero ever. Can't fly, can't swim.
What can you do? I could play the new Batman. If you, if you, I've watched the new Batman movie and it's very film noir, you know, it's, it's very, it's beautifully filmed, beautifully lit. It's, you know, it's well acted and very atmospheric.
Missing a little bit of humor. A little bit of, just a little bit of humor. I mean, there was, I think the odd little joke, but not much.
And I think that's what was missing from the last three Batman movies. You know, the old Bale man who played Batman. It's just, where's the humor? That's why Marvel, the Marvel movies are doing so much better than the DC movies.
I think is because they're funny. There's humor. I mean, they're actually funny, funny, like very well put together.
And, you know, the special effect that the special effects are available for all of the movie makers. It's no, they're not necessarily doing anything different. Not the movies, the Superman, DC, Flash, Aquaman, all that stuff.
Aquaman is quite funny, actually. That's got humor. When they did the Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Superman and Batman, there was humor in that as well.
So there's quite a good, you know, bouncing off of each other. But the Batman films, I mean, in a way, I quite liked the Batman we had in the DC universe. You know, the one where he was with all the other people.
And Ben Affleck, I liked him as Batman because, you know, there was humor there. And he seemed like, kind of human, like a human being. And the new Batman doesn't seem really very human.
I don't think Bale, I forget his first name, he didn't seem very human. But then you go back to the original Batman movies, well not the original, but the ones in the 90s. They were good, they were funny.
They were dark and funny. I mean, Batman's always kind of took himself quite seriously, I think, in the movies. But then a TV show, they were funny.
Tongue-in-cheek, they were good. Even now, I know, they've aged, we've all aged. We've all aged.
I used to like the Batman TV show. Batman. It was funny, it was camp and it was colourful and yeah, it was good, good, good fun.
And even when, I think, Jack Nicholson, because didn't he win an Oscar when he played the Joker in the first Batman movie? With Michael Keaton as Batman. I remember at the time thinking, why is Michael Keaton playing Batman? He's playing it and he's playing it quite serious, quite straight, yet Michael Keaton was a brilliant comedy actor. I mean, Beetlejuice was, as far as playing a comedy character like that, it was one of the best ever.
Oh, I really, I think Beetlejuice was, that character was as good as anything that Jim Carrey could do or any other comedy. It was great, great. I know it's kind of an old film and maybe people listening to this, some people wouldn't even know what Beetlejuice is, but it's a really, really good movie.
But it's not, I don't get, it's not played on television much. I hardly ever see it. But seeing Michael Keaton playing Beetlejuice and then he played some other kind of comedy roles, great comedy actor, and then to be Batman and to play it very straight and to leave the comedy really to the villains.
I know maybe the third one was a little bit, wasn't the greatest out of the three movies, but the first one was really good. It's a great, really good movie. And I remember I watched the first of the trilogy with Bale playing Batman.
And for some reason I've forgotten his first name. Timothy Bale, something like that. And I think this was like 2005.
I watched that and I watched it at a cinema. I was on a date with a lady. 2005.
Yeah. Yeah. Was it? Yeah, it was 2005.
Blimey. And wow. Yeah.
I remember. It's a long time ago. What's that? 17 years ago.
And I even remember where we went and what we did. We met up because I met this person on a retreat. It was a Buddhist retreat.
And we went and it's just for the weekend. And she came and I met, I think she got a lift. She came and got a lift with us, me and my friend who was going and we hit it off.
We got on quite well and then we ended up dating for a little while. Yeah. So I watched that film.
The second one, which had, what did it have? Bane. Bane as the naughty man. Bane was the baddie.
Bane, Maine, something like that. He had a mask on and no one could, I don't think anyone could actually understand what he was saying. And I couldn't.
Like that. That's my impression. And I'm sticking to it.
Bale, no Bane. Rain, Dane. But, oh no, that was the third one.
The second one was, oh, what was it? The second one was the Joker. And it was, um, what's his name? Who played the Joker? I forget his name now. I'm not remembering these actors names today.
For some reason, loads of Bruce Willis movies been on TV recently. Ever since he's retired. Cause he's, he's unwell.
So that, yeah, he's had to retire from movies. He's got a brain condition and low. He, I think he made like two movies that have just come out back to back and it's just, I don't know.
It's a bit of sadness there cause he's, he's been around since I was a kid. In Bruce Willis, I remember in Moonlight in, in the 80s. Summer that night, summer by day, moonlight in... Okay.
That's probably not how the song goes, but him and Cybill Shepherd was so good. I mean, the way they just argued all the time, both speaking at the same time. There's a big, that's a, that's a, it's not an easy thing to do in an acting situation.
I mean, it is what people do in real life, I guess, but it's such a great TV show. I love Moonlighting, even the, the co-stars of it. Cause I had the lady and had the man that were in it and they were funny and it was just a great show.
It's weird. There were so many good shows in the 80s. Like even cause I'm thinking Moonlighting, that was middle 80s.
I was at school still when Moonlighting was on. And another one, Miami Vice, great TV show. So classy.
They were the most fashionable, two, two most fashionably dressed people on television, pretty much. And it was just so full of drama and emotions and loved, loved it. Loved Miami Vice.
You know, I think everybody wanted it to be Don Johnson, you know, he was just such a star, such a big broody and yeah, blimey. Cause when I think about that, I think about the eighties and I kind of split it up in between, you know, let's say the early eighties when I was little, when I was like 10 uh, onwards and yeah, uh, the A-Team and the Muppet show and they used to be on Saturday nights, Dukes of Hazzard. And then going back to Merlin, Mr. Merlin, which is a TV show I used to love.
It used to be on in the afternoon, actually he didn't used to, I think like probably five o'clock or something. It used to be on, so it was a kid's program and Mork and Mindy, but that was like late seventies really. But the Incredible Hulk, that was still on in the early eighties.
The Bionic Man, maybe Bionic Woman as well. Uh, Charlie's Angels, Heart to Heart. All these shows that were on in the early eighties, some continued to the middle eighties.
Murder, She Wrote, I mean, that's been on for about 700 years. Trying to think of some other, uh, Starsky and Hutch. I've named all pretty much American shows, but also like the professionals, which is an English show.
Um, Only Fools and Horses, but then that, that went on until the nineties. So that, that carried on for quite a few years. Little and Large, uh, what was, oh, Cannon and Ball.
Uh, The Young Ones, that was more middle eighties, The Young Ones. That's like, these are TV, uh, British TV shows. Just trying to think of some other shows from the early eighties.
Uh, Dallas, Dynasty. There was a period, and this was probably 82 kind of time. And there was these blockbuster TV shows that went on for hours and hours and hours.
And there was two that both had Richard Chamberlain in them. One was, um, called Shogun. And every episode was about two hours long or three hours long.
And there was loads of episodes. It was a really lengthy thing. And my parents used to record it and we'd watch it.
And it'd just go on forever and ever and ever. And there's another one, Blue, um, Something Birds, Mockingbirds or Bluebirds or something. And again, it's Richard Chamberlain, but this was a love story or something.
And that went on and on and on. There was another weird show, which was very dramatic. And there was this blind lady.
And I think it was called Seagull Island. It's very strange. It's a very freaky show it was.
And again, that seemed to go on and on and on. Some of the shows I didn't get to see, like Roots, I didn't get to see that. But that was another one that went on.
It was quite a long, long drawn out one. And there was one based in Korea. And again, I didn't see that either.
Ken, Keno, Kenya or something like that. Just trying to think of any other TV shows I used to watch in the early 80s. There was loads, loads of TV shows.
Manimal, as a man he used to be able to turn into animals. And then the middle 80s. When I had my own television for the first time.
So we're talking, I say middle 80s, we're talking 85 probably. I started watching MASH. Because it was in the evening, I could watch it because I was upstairs in my bedroom.
It was black and white television. So I watched MASH and I watched Cheers. I think Golden Girls might have been on then, I'm not sure.
They were definitely on 88 or 87, but I'm not sure. But yeah, there was a few other like comedy shows. I think one was called Brothers.
And there was a few American shows that would be on on a Friday night. Roseanne, again, I'm not sure when Roseanne started, but it was on in 87 or 88. Because I know that I used to watch it back then.
I used to watch the Wogan show pretty much most nights because he used to be on at seven, I think. Used to be on five days a week, and then it went down to less. But I used to watch that regularly.
Yeah, so the middle 80s, like late 80s, that's when it started to get. Some of the programs were a bit more classy. I said like Miami Vice or Moonlighting.
I'm trying to think what other programs I used to quite like watching back then. Because once I left school, I didn't watch much television because I was working most evenings. And for the first, for about eight months or nine months, maybe longer, I was living in my stepmum's mother's flat.
And I was sleeping in the living room on a camper bed. So they didn't like me having the television on once they'd gone to bed. And they were going to bed at about 10.
And I was getting home by about quarter to 10 or something. And that was the evening gone. So I didn't get to really watch much television until I moved out.
And I had my own, another black and white telly in my flat that I lived in above the chip shop. So I used to watch telly in the evening then. But there wasn't a huge amount on back then.
There was only four channels. And I'm pretty sure that a lot of the channels just stopped at midnight. It's just like, that'll be it, gone.
So I think one channel will play the national anthem or something and then it'll be over. But yeah, the late 80s. I used to like watching Words of Gummage, but that was an old TV show.
But I used to watch that on a Sunday. I used to watch The Waltons on a Sunday as well. So of course, that's an old TV show.
I think that's from the 70s. I used to watch that. And I used to, I'll tell you what I used to like watching, even when I was a kid and even as an adult as well, is the Addams Family TV shows and The Munsters.
I like both of those TV shows pretty much. I think I prefer The Munsters, but I did also really, really enjoyed watching The Addams Family. And I'm sure they did a crossover once, like when all characters were together, but I might be wrong there.
That's my fantasy anyway. But I used to love that show, even though it was in black and white and it was from the 60s. I just loved it.
And I used to like watching, when I was a kid, a TV show called Alice. And she was an American, she worked in a diner. It's an American TV show.
She worked in a diner. And she, I think Alf, was it Alf? Was her boss and there was this bald man and he was always shouting at her. Always shouting at everyone.
Or Al, might be Al. Because I'm thinking it was someone I worked with called Alf and he was bald and he was always shouting. So maybe I'm getting muddled up between the two.
Except one used to cut up meat for a living. The other one was a cook. Always an actor playing a cook.
What other TV shows? Late 80s. EastEnders. Yeah, I used to like watching EastEnders.
That started in about 85. So I used to watch that regularly. I used to watch Brookside as well.
Late 80s. Very into Brook. That's my favourite actually.
I used to really be into it. It was a great show for a while. Never really, I used to, I got into Emmerdale but not until the 90s.
No, not until the 2000s. So I went through a period when I was watching Emmerdale regularly. But I didn't watch it generally.
I've been through periods when I've watched Coronation Street regularly. But every now and then. I mean, I haven't watched it for years.
But occasionally I've gone through periods when I've watched it for months and months and months and then I just don't watch it anymore. That's where I am with EastEnders now. I watched it the other night for the first time in absolutely ages.
And I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know why people were acting the way they were acting. And I just generally, you know, I turned it on.
And Janine, who's one of the returning stars, she's been in it since she was a kid. And she keeps coming back. And she just had a car crash.
So I kind of, I couldn't turn it off. I wanted to see what's going on. And I got hooked for that episode.
And I'm probably going to watch it tonight now. I want to find out what happens next. But other TV.
Oh, Neighbours, straight from Australia. Neighbours and Home and Away came around and I started watching those. Loved both of those.
Neighbours I loved more, but I did get into Home and Away as well. But the best Australian soap out of all of them that I ever watched was Sons and Daughters. And I used to watch it every afternoon.
Because there was a period of time when I'd come home from work for, I don't know, two and a half, three hours. And I'd go back again. So I'd finish work at, I don't know, two o'clock and come back at four or five or I don't know whether to get ready for the evening, evening session.
So I'd get home. And I'd watch Sons and Daughters with my stepman. And it's the only thing we agreed on in life is it was a brilliant TV show.
So we both watched that and I'd look forward to watching it. Because they knew how to do cliffhangers. They really knew.
They did the best cliffhangers I've ever seen. Really had you like, oh, can't wait to watch it. And luckily, because, yeah, I think it was like an old show.
So they were just showing repeats. So they'd show it the next day. So it wasn't having to wait for another week.
And absolutely loved, I mean, it's seriously, I mean, quite a few of the actors from Sons and Daughters, I think were in Home and Away and Neighbours when it started. A few of them anyway. And also Prisoner Cell Block H, I used to love that as well.
B, was it B, wasn't it? The bully. In there, the scary woman, B. What was the name of the other one? Mrs. Mangle from Neighbours. Mrs. Mangle, what a brilliant name.
So yeah, I used to watch it. Sometimes I'd watch it twice. I would, I'd watch it twice.
I'd watch Home and Away and EastEnders, not EastEnders. I'd watch Home and Away and maybe Neighbours twice, because they used to be on after each other. Neighbours first, and then Home and Away.
And they lasted for about 20 minutes each. So there was enough time to watch and get home, watch them and then get back to work. When I had a job in the supermarket.
So I'd get home and I'd listen to it while I was making myself a sandwich. Wow. Those were the good old days.
I'm trying to think what other TV shows I used to watch. EastEnders, The Bill, I used to love watching The Bill as well, which is a police drama. So I used to watch that Thursdays.
I think at one point it was on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but that started in the 80s and carried on. That was like, it went on for about 25 years, I think, that TV show. I think when my little brother, when he was old enough to sort of watch cartoons and stuff, I used to watch a lot of stuff with him.
So like Muppet Babies and all of those cartoons. Another thing I used to watch is The Wide Awake Club. It used to be on ITV on a Saturday and Sunday morning.
It used to start quite early and it was just energetic and fun and I used to enjoy watching it even though I was an adult. Well, I was still a teenager, but it wasn't, I don't think it was really aimed at me. It was aimed at sort of children, small children, but I used to enjoy it.
I did. I couldn't help it. Because I guess I've always been really, really immature, just generally.
Just generally a very immature person. And I love it. I love being immature.
I do. I love it ever so much. Ever so much.
Yes. Oh, so. That's it.
I think I've probably spoken enough about nothing for now. I will return. I will return.
Oh yeah. So take care everybody. Remember to be kind to yourself because you deserve to be happy.
Be gentle with yourself. Lots of love. Bye.
