#757 Let me bore you to sleep - PART 2 - Jason Newland (29th OCTOBER 2021)

Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. This is Let Me Bore You To Sleep and I'm Jason and I think I got a very croaky voice. I can't hear it very well but it feels croaky. This is kind of part two to part one which was this morning or yeah I think it was this morning.

I could only do half an hour of talking so I thought I've got an idea. I'll do another bit. I'll do it in two parts.

So here we are. So there you go. My voice is very, my voice isn't very strong at the moment.

I may have COVID. Whatever I've got, it's extreme. It's an extreme flu thing or whatever.

It's very, very strange. The weirdest thing about the whole thing, I've got a cough. That's kind of come on.

The flu. So I had this since I started feeling weird on, wait a minute, I started feeling weird on Thursday evening. I don't know how much of that was due to stress though.

I've been out all day and haven't been up for a long time and I had all the problems with my back and eventually I got some help with the pain and stuff. I hadn't really slept properly because of my back pain and I was worried about it and all that. Now, just an update on that.

I have been wearing a back posture correction or corrector. Not all the time. I don't wear it at night or when I'm in bed.

I don't wear it all the time when I'm not. But I wear it for a fair bit of the time when I'm sitting watching telly or sitting at the computer and I literally have no back pain at all now in my upper back. And it seems to be helping my lower back as well.

Now the real test would be going out. I haven't really been out since because when I got it, I had been out with it, I have, but not any distance you know. No, so Thursday, Wednesday.

But this stuff only really, I felt a bit weird and a bit strange. But on Thursday, Wednesday, I'm losing track of the days man. On Wednesday I woke up and my ears were just echoing.

My left ear was echoing. The day before I woke up with an earache in my right ear. But then it went away with painkillers.

So I just kind of just, I thought I might have slept in it wrong. You know, like you do on your shoulder sometimes. How can you sleep on your ear wrongly? I went to the toilet and I must have sat on my buttocks wrong.

How? How? How? So I, today, my friend went to the pharmacy to get me some stuff. So he got me some Day Nurse, some painkillers for headache tablets. He got me some ear cleaners.

This, um, oh there it is. Otex Ear Drops. I've used them before.

I quite like them actually, it feels quite nice. So uh, oh that's a weird noise. Excuse me.

All these weird things that don't happen normally. It's not that I never belch, it's just my body's just a weird array of sounds at the moment. Some I, yeah, I just need to stop doing that.

I apologise, I'm sorry. Um, so as soon as my friend came with this stuff and the Otox, Otex, I went to bed and I put them, I put a load into one ear and I just laid down on the other side. I just laid there for about, I don't know, half an hour and just let the, all the bubbling and stuff go.

It's really nice, nice, nice feeling. It is. I did the other way as well and it had no effect and I still can't hear.

I can hear, but for me, I can't watch television without headphones. For me to watch television, normal television, and hear it, because normally I have it on 20 to hear it. I have to have it on something like 58, on numbers as in volume, in order to hear it.

Otherwise it's just, like that. Very low. Now I thought, I know what I'll do, I'll study in anatomy of the ear.

And it is quite a simple process. Um, there's three parts to the ear. There's the inner ear, the first bit where you can stick things in and it's basically, it's a cul-de-sac isn't it? It's a dead end.

We can't go any further than what's there. And then behind that bit, there's another bit of the ear. And then behind that, there's the coccal or occical.

Um, basically the part where children that are born deaf can actually have those wires, those implants that connects to that part of the ear, which is literally just kind of above the ear, which is like phenomenal. Now, the bit in the middle of that, between the normal part, you know, the first part of the ear and that part inside that nothing can really get to, there's a place where air can be. And air, obviously, because you've got your nose, your ears, your bum, all that stuff connects together, doesn't it? With the air.

And that part in between your ears, the middle part of your ear, if there's too much air, it can cause hearing issues. If there's too little air, it can cause hearing issues. So I'm assuming there's either too much or not enough air, air in that part of the ear.

I just don't remember ever, I've had this shit, I think everyone's really had this kind of thing in the past.

You know, where you can't hear for a bit and your ears go a bit weird and it's a little bit exciting, I suppose, sometimes like, and you like go, normally, normally, if there's no one around and I have a deep voice, because I haven't got a very deep voice normally I start singing the I was born under a winding star I was born under a winding star and I can't get that low normally I was born from the Wanderers leave the kid alone leave the kid alone leave the kid alone say I'd normally I try

I see clouds of steam, red by the blue, I see the blue in you, and I think to myself, what a wonderful world, I think to myself, what a wonderful world I'm not sure I'm not sure the thing is I can't actually hear much of what I'm saying it's strange in it now my right is hurting my left ear nothing it's not really any physical sensation at all but my right ear I can feel it's a little bit discomfort so it's not bothering me that much because it's not painful I haven't got a headache my

eyes have stopped gunking up so I had all I can say it was like conjunctivitis in my eyes for three days or two days it was that's you know what I kind of have been having every time I go out of bed my eyes were like stuck together and it's bits of white stuff and who knows what was going on and I seem to cough more than lying down but that's okay and the coughing doesn't last forever it's not like too bad and it's definitely not at the level of a chest infection I've had much

worse than this in the past so the coughs not bothering me because I've had some pretty awful chest infections over the years and this doesn't even touch it so you know it's just a cough as far as I'm concerned with this my body's not aching anymore which is good.

I got chills they're multiplying and I lose control all the power you're supplying.

I'm so electrified. I'm trying to think of a really deep voice song. I was born under a London star.

What other ones? Come on give me a song. Deep. Okay let me just check.

Actor Alex Baldwin should just leave that film set and just be left alone to deal with that with whatever help you get he needs and that film should just be gone that's what I think just every time I look at the internet his face is there and he's a much-loved actor and kind of comedy actor and just you know just leave him alone man leave my little Alex alone he's got all his other little brothers to look after as well isn't he leave him alone okay what about see I know what about Johnny Cash Johnny Cash song ladies and gentlemen Johnny Cash.

one last masterpiece for generations to come and he utilized one of his favorite subjects okay well the song hurts was not written by him is it weird that I know that and I'm not even a country in western boffin the lyrics were not by him it was not his song he recorded it and he owned it that was a brilliant brilliant video because he I think he recorded the video not long before he died and it was a tribute to his wife his late wife the song was Michael Trent Reznor why did Johnny Cash do

the hurt song hurt basically his voice was broken at that point so if it just it's it's I don't know he didn't write the song why do they put lies in lies after lies stop lying about things just winds me up really does winds me right up hurt it's a Nine Inch Nails song okay interesting hurt is a song by American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails from the second studio album the downward spiral 1994 written by Trent Reznor it was released April 1995 as a promotional single for the album the song received a Grand

Ammy nomination for best rock song in 1996 and in 2002 Johnny Cash converted hurt to commercial and critical acclaim or covered rather the related music videos considered one of the greatest of all time by publications such as the NME Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its sincerity and meaning going so as far as to say that song the song isn't mine anymore and I don't agree with him and you know what most people don't know if you haven't if you if you even if you're not a Johnny Cash fan there's two things that

can convert you into a Johnny Cash fan or to even get you interested in the movie Walk the Line and that song Hurt from 2002 the video for that song is brilliant I don't know what else to say it was it was perfection and if you know the the story behind him and his love for his wife even though he was an arsehole he admitted he's well known for being a complete knobhead but he loved his wife she was it's weird that this but she was his life even though he clearly didn't treat her the

way that would be expected in these days but he was completely I think once he got off the drugs and on all that stuff he was probably a bit easier to live around you know to be with and they had a better life after that was her name Jenny June June Carter because she was already famous she was famous long before him she was on TV and everything before he was and he ended up those are the days man it's amazing those was the days when Buddy Holly Elvis Presley probably Roy Orbison Johnny Cash were

all touring at the same time none of them famous particularly some of them might have number one hits in part of the country some of them unknown but they're all on a touring boat coach and you had Billy Idol not Billy Idol what's the one that married his 13 year old cousin Billy Fury yeah Billy Fury I liked him he was good as well three bowls of fire and he it's amazing to think they were all all went on to super stardom some in a bigger way than others like Elvis for example but still just

phenomenal and I don't know that is something that I would have loved to seen that's that to be at one of those concerts to see Elvis and who else Johnny Cash and you know some of those other people that was doing it and this is like in the late 50s like 57 time 56 before Buddy Holly even had made it because Buddy Holly became famous really quickly and and released loads of songs in a short time I remember I've spoken about him before and then of course he died in the plane crash so he died

at the age of 22 right blimey it's ridiculous 22 and his first song his first song was released in the studio albums singles yeah let's go through singles 1956 so 1956 and he died in 1959 so in three years in three years he had one two three four four songs in 56 in 1957 he had one oh no 1956 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1956 1957 he had 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 songs 1958 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

9 10 11 12 no 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 yeah 9 10 so he had 10 songs in 1958 and 1959 he had 1 2 3 4 and he had some songs after as well all the way up to 1969 so he did you know obviously I can't believe I'm about to say this these words out loud but songs he'd previously recorded oh dear well it doesn't matter anymore he believed the actual the year he died he said these are the songs he released it doesn't doesn't doesn't matter anymore and

it got to number one in the UK charts Wow he wasn't more popular in the UK than in America Wow no surely not 1959 it's raining in my heart that only got to number it's raining raining in my heart got to according to this 88 and that's it then that's in the US charts no there's something wrong here isn't there that can't be right so according to this that'll be the day that's his first big hit number one in America and the UK for some reason they're focusing just on us the America and the UK

us as in America you know well I am a UK and America but I don't know why they're not focusing on other countries but they're not Pegasus every day so I'm guessing that's A and B side six in the UK three in the US oh boy and no fade away three in the UK ten in the US so it peaked higher in the UK than the US that's only their third single maybe baby and tell me how so maybe baby was the A side 17 in the US four in the UK higher here well I

am rave on and take your time so the rave on was the hit rave on with all to me to me not to be lonely lonely I love you only rave on to me something like that number five in the UK 37 in the US Wow I'm just really surprised at this the next hit he had was think it over think it over what you just said think it over in your pretty little head are you sure that I'm not the one is your love real or only fun just think it over just think it

over no only heart grows cold and old so number 11 here 27 in America Wow there's a little bit of a thing here isn't there early in the morning not heard of that one 17 here 32 in America heartbeat 30 here 82 in America it doesn't it doesn't matter anymore number one here 13 America raining in my heart didn't even list in America in the UK for some reason 88 in America it's one of my favourite songs the Sun is out the sky is blue there's not a cloud to spoil the view but it's raining

ba ba ba ba ba ba raining in my heart works better when I can sing Wow and now getting near to where he dies the last song that he charted in both true love ways wasn't even released in America 25 here brilliant song again Bo Diddley I don't remember that one 160 in America four here by this point he was dead so these is like prompt you know subsequent years so here we go ladies and gentlemen Buddy Holly was more popular in England than it was in America even the albums show so the Buddy Holly

story 1950s a compilation of his studio albums oh no it's not given the correct thing just given the UK the chirping crickets five and five combination albums UK yeah so from the looks of it he was more popular in England he was in America however there's not many people in this country compared to America but I want to say I was his biggest fan even though he died long before I was born huge I pretty much know the lyrics to all of his songs love Buddy Holly and on that note I'm gonna go before I
