Hope you're well. I hope you're okay. Rachel sent me a message.

It says, Hi Jason, is there any way of cleaning up a background sound that you know of? In the clip I'm sending you, I want to hear the hedgehog chatting, eating rather, but not the noisy neighbors. The next thing I say is going to be sarcastic, but not really. You need to get the microphone closer to the hedgehog.

If you know what I mean, I think this is a serious answer. And first of all, I don't know. If you know anything about my, my audio technology, you wouldn't ask me any questions, because I'm not very good.

Rachel, there are ways of getting rid of background. Most free audio editors can help you get rid of background sound. The thing is, depending, and this is a serious answer, because you know, Rachel, I love you.

So I'm being serious. Is if the microphone or the camera was very close to the hedgehog, then there's a chance that if by getting rid of some of the background sound, you'll get more of the hedgehog sound. And because once you got rid of the background sound, then you can raise the volume of the video, which will then raise the volume of the hedgehog.

Does that make sense? I don't know how you do it. I kind of do but I don't, you know, I can't really. If you I think in most video editing, you could do that.

I think I think I think I think these days in video editing, even the the free ones or the the non expensive ones, you should have pretty much the same ability to change the sound as you do in an audio editing software. I'm coughing a bit, I can't pause to cough. That's what I believe to be true.

But it really depends. Because you know, if you watch a live, a wildlife documentary, and like an up to date one, they will actually have the sound of the let's say the hedgehog eating. But that's because they've got a microwave microwave, a microphone, and very close to the hedgehog.

Or, or plus the technology of being able to boost signals and stuff. Like in the old, the old wildlife documentaries, you know, like 30 years ago, they used to make up the sounds in the studio. So they'd film it, film it, and then they'd, they'd try and remember the kind of sounds and try to recreate them in the recording studio.

So when you heard the sound of eagle hatchlings, the kind of in a mountaintop, and you hear them going, go, go, go, go, go, go, go go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. Like that. That was actually Richard Attenborough, in a recording studio.

I you know, a few months after doing a recording, with his hand underneath his sweaty armpit going, trying to recreate, recreate the noises. And so yeah, that's about all I can help with that. I'm afraid.

I hope you get this message and what I might do is just post, send you a message back saying I've answered your message in the beginning of the latest boring recording. But I don't, I still, I haven't motivated myself to learn to use the Adobe software, not any of it yet. I've had it since probably February, so what's that, six months.

Have a, I just, I just, yeah, you know I mean, I just, and the sad thing is I've had something go wrong with, I don't know what it is, I don't know if it's the iPad, I don't know if it's the microphone, I hope it's neither the microphone or the iPad because they're both expensive bits of equipment. It might be the Focusrite's booster thingy that, I forget the name of it, but that's what the microphone plugs into and then an outlet plugs into the iPad from there.

So it's a converter, a booster, a, what do they call it when, not a thermostat, I forget the name of it, it basically boosts the single, it moves, it, so the iPhone, the iPad, that turns on the box and then the microphone can then be picked up and then sent to the iPad.

Yeah, that's, that's all I know. My technical knowledge of such things ain't great. All I do know though is that the volume is much lower than it was last week.

Okay, hello. I just want to let you know how much I appreciate you and your recordings. I listen every night if I wake up and I put another one on.

The weather here is hot one minute, cold the next. We live on a small inland lake that has flooded our property. We bought the house in March 2018 and the first spring our crawlspace had water in it.

I'm not sure what a crawlspace is. Is that like an attic? Not an attic, a basement. Is that a Last fall it rained six inches in one night.

I woke up to six inches of water. I already said water. I woke up to six inches in our garage.

The water went out over our wall. So we had a company. We had a company come and put up a berm.

I don't know what a berm is. So far so good. I guess that's a berm.

Some way of releasing the water or something like that. So far so good. But the water goes down a few inches.

Then it rains again. There's no outlet to the lake. We have three pumps running at all times in a crawlspace and five others in the floats around the house.

I heard you talking about flooding and homes and thought I would share our story with you. It has taken a lot out of our whole family. We can't afford to leave the house and have to keep paying the mortgage till the end and we are holding on one day at a time.

Anyway no more negative for me. Keep the positive coming. It keeps me going.

It was like just everywhere. And now you've got, we've got wildfires everywhere. It's like we need both at the same time.

That doesn't make doesn't make sense does it? I like to I like to listen to new things but occasionally. If there's if there's, you know, for example, years ago, years and years ago, there was a CD I had which I listened to every single day, probably twice a day. And I loved it.

It's raining now. I have watched every episode of Ray Donovan. All seven seasons over the last couple of weeks.

I watched the final one this morning. And I was kind of glad it was over. In a way.

It was, you know, it was it was it wasn't the cheeriest program I've ever watched. It really wasn't. It was grim, very grim, through quite a lot of it.

And Jon Voight, who played the father was brilliant. And he was funny. And he, he, he picked the thing up.

He added some humor to the show that outside of him, it was it was dreary, you know, like quite miserable, action packed at times and full of stuff. But oh, it wasn't it weren't a happy. It wasn't a happy place.

You could say a little bit like Sopranos, but Sopranos had characters that were quite funny that came and went. You know, Ray Donovan is very, the character he plays is very a man of few words and just on his own, high intense kind of character. But you know, definitely needs for for that role needed other people to to fill in the humanity probably of the show.

So that's where his kids and his wife came in. And yeah, his wife as well. In the first three seasons, she was a big, big part of the show as well.

And so yeah, but then she wasn't in it pretty much much after that. Was it the first four? A loose track. But yeah, I watched the whole thing.

And now I don't know what to watch next, because I've decided if I start on a new show, I want to watch every episode from start to finish. And ideally start with a show that's finished already that's completed, you know, like Lost or 24 or Six Foot Under or something like that. The problem with that is I've already watched Lost.

Apart from the last season, I watched some of them, but I just it got it just got silly got got to even for me, it was just this is just, you know. I think I've said this loads of times, and it's I'm sure it's no one's fault, you know. Not really.

It's because when it when a show is successful, and I think, in my personal opinion, Lost, the first season, probably more the last first few seasons, but you know, as far as watching it for the first time, it's among the best TV shows I've ever watched. As far as enjoyment goes, and keeping my attention. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant show.

I mean, I guess in some ways, it probably made it easier on the eye because they were in on a beautiful island, sunny, lush, kind of the sea and all that stuff. That probably made it, you know, more watchable. I don't know.

As opposed to as if it had been inside a dark cave. You know, I wouldn't have watched probably more than 10 minutes of it. Because I'm not really into caves.

Just just the way it is. I don't like dark films. You know, I think an example of that would be Aliens.

Aliens. Yeah, the second one, Aliens. Very dim.

For me very, I found a very dimly lit film that I like. I understand part of the reason is because to keep the aliens almost secret what they look like. And by the time I'd done the 14th Alien film, the alien would just be walking into a diner and ordering a cup of coffee.

It's just like, well, just show him in broad daylight don't matter anymore. Everyone knows what he looks like. But yeah, I like films to be well lit.

It's just a personal preference of mine. Not into underwater films, or mountain films. I'm very picky.

And I don't I won't watch a film that's about mountains. Like there was a film called Everest. I think it was quite a big movie, but no, I'll never watch it.

Because I don't watch films to do with mountains. Don't watch films to do with generally to do with sharks or water or anything like that. But occasionally, there was a good one.

When they might all be good, even the ones I've not seen, because I don't know do I because I've not seen them. But you know, it's I just don't not really into those kind of films, space films. So I'm not really into space films.

Okay, I put off gravity, the gravity, the one with George Clooney. In fact, it was Sandra Bullock, wasn't it? She was a star. George Clooney was a star.

But you know, Sandra Bullock was the star. Although it's George Clooney, really, but Sandra Bullock was, you know, but it's George really. I think anyone's anyone's seen it with would probably agree like George stole that film.

And there's only two of a minute. There's only that's the reason I thought I'm watching a film with two people in it. Nah, nah.

Turns out it was a great film. It was a really, really, really good movie. And so I missed out for probably 10 years before I actually ended up watching it.

And the same happened with Pulp Fiction. I thought nah, looks like crap. I'm not, it's weird when you think about it.

Because okay, I'm not saying I'm an expert on movies, but I have seen probably more movies than the average person. I've been a bit of a movie buff over the years, but not a movie buff as in being interested in anything to do with a movie other than just watching it, doing a poo then watch another one. You know, that was it, having something to eat and then watch another one.

I just watched 1000s and 1000s and 1000s and 1000s of movies over the years. So when I was a kid, including now, I'll probably watch a few every week. And I'm quite up to date.

However, sometimes I just don't fancy one. I just like, Pulp Fiction. Nah, looks a bit too, just a bit too, you know.

I thought nah. And I think I've got a bit of an issue with popular films I used to have. Titanic wouldn't go near it.

Honestly, wouldn't go near Titanic. Because of the popularity of it. When I did watch it, it was all right.

And not really my kind of film. If I'm honest, just not. Kate Winslet got a tits out.

So I was happy. But other than that, and they showed it at three o'clock in the afternoon with Kate Winslet, topless on a Sunday afternoon. Couldn't quite figure out how that worked.

Considering nipples are so scary, you know. So I don't know how they got away with showing that, but they did. And I didn't mind.

Kate Winslet. I've noticed probably while they did it, because I probably thought, oh, it's Kate Winslet. No one's really going to notice.

I maybe I don't know. I don't know. It's because she's like a member of the family, really.

And she's like a cushion in the corner. I don't know. I don't know where I'm going with that.

Didn't, you know, okay, had good special effects and that. But you know what? I like to kind of watch a movie that I don't know how the ending is. And with that's why I don't watch war films.

I know how it ended, man. Another ending already. Another ending.

Show me something where I don't know what's going to happen. And unfortunately, I can predict. I'd say probably one out of three times what's going to happen next in a film or TV show.

Just by just repetition that there's not a huge amount of new stuff that's really original. Like even this this TV shows watching just started Black Tuesday, I think it's called on Black Monday. And this car pulls up.

And a man gets out of it. And there's a long shot of the car and the man. And it's like a man someone's going to fall on the car.

And someone fell on the car is almost so predictable. And it's sad that things are just really quite predictable now. And that's probably just more to do with I've watched too much stuff.

Because if you get someone who goes on YouTube, or let's say Facebook for the first time, or hasn't really been on Facebook really much before. They get excited over stuff. And they'll get they'll see a post that says this is to say blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Something like really serious message. And then at the end saying, I didn't write this, but I just I bet that no one read it all the way through. And but, you know, if you if you agree that, and it's something so benign, like the sentence, but such an important subject, like if you think that, you know, if you think that cancer is horrible, it's for example, like, well, yeah, everyone in the world would think that, then repost this on your page.

I know those are you that will that kind of crap. Yeah. And I remember seeing a friend he's like, getting all excited, like, see, no one's.

No one's posted it. No one's reposted it. I said, Look, so it's got it's not to do it's got nothing to do with people not caring about the subject.

Because everybody cares about serious things like that. It's just, of course, everyone's affected by it in some way or other, in, you know, some manner, whether it's someone they care about or themselves. Now, on Facebook, after how many years is it? 15 years.

After 15 years of Facebook, after 15 years of seeing so many of those turdy, crappy messages posted from people, trying to put a guilt trip on other people for not sharing a message because it's important. I know who I know who will send. I know those are my friends will send it.

Yeah, that's not even you're writing that part of the message. You're just First of all, have some originality. But secondly, it's not even you saying I know who will send it.

So, you know, it's just copy paste, copy, paste, copy, paste. I'll just not try to explain that's why people ignore them because it's annoying. Only so much only so much can you take of those stupid messages before you just have to start ignoring them.

Otherwise, you end up with a guilt trip. I didn't share that. All right.

Does that make me a bad person? Oh, what should I do with myself? I'm a bad person because I didn't share it. But he'll know it wasn't me. But maybe he thought I would do it because he when he said I know who shared maybe he was thinking of me.

He thought that I would share it. But I haven't I've let him down. Shut up.

I'll shut up your face. Just move on. Those stupid messages is I think some people I remember years ago, I think it was on Big Brother.

There was this young lad on there and he was. He was from I don't know. I get a sense he was.

He wasn't really. Almost that he was English, but he didn't. He was hearing sentences like phrases that are everyday phrases in this country.

And he was like, oh, I've never heard that before. Wow. I like that.

It's funny. And like and he was laughing at stuff that isn't funny. But then it isn't funny because.

I've heard those phrases, those old sayings since I was a baby and you know, like, fuck it out. I hope so. There's no telly there.

That kind of stuff. I don't know. No, it's not that.

Not really funny anymore. As I spoke at work years ago, he used to say stuff and he'd howl out laughing as he said it. He was a raven alcoholic.

He was literally. He was. I mean, it wasn't like it's not a judgment.

He just was as few of them work in there that is that go to the early house, the early house. Those of you don't know what an early house is, an early house. It's a pub.

Basically, it's just a pub that opens very early. Now, I don't know if they were legally allowed to open because back in them days, you couldn't open a pub till half 11 and you'd have to close it like, I don't know, two o'clock and then you couldn't open again till 330. It was something like that and you have to close at 11 or 1030 or something like that.

So there was there was legal laws, licensing laws that then changed to be kind of almost you can open when you want. Depending on where you are and stuff, you know. Oops, stupid crappy chair.

I need to get a new chair that doesn't click and clank every time I move. Move. But I can't get anything new at the moment.

I have to make do with it. Was it now August, September, October, November, December. I'll get a new one in January.

If I can maybe get a new one for Christmas. Maybe. See my stepmom, she said to me, I said to her the other day, I said, what do you want for your birthday? What do you want for your bloody birthday? What do you want a bloody birthday? I said, I might as well get you something that you can use that you want rather than just buying you flowers or some crappy chocolates.

And she said, they're not crappy. I like them and I like flowers. I said, yeah, but it's just boring, isn't it? She said, no, I like flowers.

I said, I don't want to get you flowers. No, I just said, look, isn't there anything that you can use that's useful to you as opposed to me just buying you the same stuff every time? Because normally I just go on to Moon Pig. Is it Moon Pig? Yeah, Moon Pig and just buy a card and get some flowers and just send them together or some chocolates or my dad, a bottle of whiskey or something like that.

And it's just boring. You know, I thought, get us something that she wants. Well, she said, get me some bloody flowers.

I said, no, I'm not getting you flowers. I'm going to get you something you want. He said, I want bloody flowers.

She used to be a florist. So she loves flowers. I don't know if the two are connected.

And I guess you need to love flowers to be a florist. Do you? Do you? I don't know. She used to be a florist and a cake decorator.

I say used to because she's not old. She's not retired. No, I don't think she's retired.

Can you hear that in the background? It's a chip van. You hear that? It's five to nine. It sounds.

I don't know what it sounds like. It's like just like that. Awful sound.

Awful. But I had a big dinner. I had myself a big dinner at six o'clock.

I'm still full. It's nine o'clock now. Um, but if it wasn't raining, I'd probably go over to the garage and maybe look into getting some breakfast cereal, but I don't want to get soaking wet.

So I'm not going to go yet. If it stopped raining by 10, I might go. But I might, but I might, but I won't, but I will.

But I haven't. Maybe not. So I said to her, get back to me.

Just why don't you text me? Why don't you text me and let me know if there's something that you like. She said, all right then. So I said, uh, I said, so how are you doing? But she couldn't hear me because she'd hung up.

So that's fine. A few days went by and then yesterday, what was it today? I think it was today. Let me read out of the text.

There's a book I'd like. Um, second hand is fine. That's something I'm going to talk about in a minute.

I've got a couple of his, a couple of his books. If you can get it. Um, cool.

Or maybe next year's diary now. And then I said, I look into it and he said, thank you. If not available, just a card would be lovely.

She's so nice. Um, doesn't want anything from me, especially phone calls really doesn't. Um, second hand.

I want, I feel like, look, if I sent her a second hand gift for a birthday present and she has the right to shoot me, I mean, how, how, I mean, it's better not to get her a present to get her a second hand present. Second hand, if it's a antique, if I'm only willing to spend 50 pence or a pound for a second hand book, it's going to cost me more in postage than it is to buy the actual book to send it. So it's like, wow.

So what I did, I was like, I couldn't get my head around it. Couldn't get me hit around it, man. But what I've done is I found Paolo Calo, Calo, the deluxe collection, paperback.

And there's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 books. And yeah, I got them. And they, they got delivered today, actually.

So there's 10 books. I had them in a little birthday bag gift bag thing. Wow.

I didn't realize that he sold more than 100 million books. 100 million and 10 books. And 100 million books.

That had 100 million books. He must be rich. Is he still alive? I wonder.

The only reason I say that is because he's he's 73. He is definitely alive. Whoops.

Sorry, mate. It's not old. Is it 73? Wow, he's worth $500 million.

Blimey. He's got to be one of the most successful authors of all time. He's got to be, hasn't he? He's in, he's a top.

He's in the top 20 richest authors in the world. Wow. J.K. Rowling is the number one.

James Patterson, second. Candy Spelling. Paolo Calo.

So he's a fourth best selling author. Richest, or richest. It's not best selling, but I guess the two is going to come together.

But that doesn't, it does dispose of authors. But then if you think about it, if you say the richest author, if Elon Musk sells a book, he's automatically the richest author in the world, isn't he? Even if he only sells one copy. You see what I mean? So that's where they're wrong.

I wonder, has Elon Musk, Elon Musk, author, he hasn't written a book? He has. He has. He has written his own book.

I want to read what he's got to say about himself. So basically, any, Elon Musk. No, again, Robert Hansen.

What should I watch next? So I'm thinking I could watch 24. Now watch the first season of 24. And I watched it on DVD or DVD back in about 2008.

I don't remember enough of it to just go on to season two. But it is one that I've been wanting to watch. I'm thinking I need to watch every single episode.

So I've done it. I'm never going to watch Ray Donovan again. I do love the Sopranos.

But I don't think I'm ever gonna watch that again, either. I watched it. I've seen it.

I watched every single episode. I waited for months and months, maybe 16 months, sometimes for the next season to come out. Big fan watched it.

It's available to stream. I've watched it. I don't know.

Maybe in the future, I might like have a nice little look at it again. But I'd rather watch something new. Six Feet Under is another another TV show that I absolutely loved.

And you might be thinking, well, this is HBO, isn't it? This is all like adult stuff you like, isn't it? HBO, 18 rated, violent. Although Six Feet Under isn't violent. It's just, it's more the subject matter because it's based in a morgue.

So, you know, there was limited to what they could do for under 18. Great show. I really liked it.

But I've seen it being mocked as being weird. Carnival is another one. I discovered this online.

Or was it a DVD as well? I don't know. But it was. It might have been DVD.

But it was an HBO. I think it's another HBO show. Carnival as in Carnival, not Carnival as in meat eater, but Carnival.

I don't know. Big tent. Elephants, you know, kind of stuff.

Stilt walking midgets. I can't say midgets anymore. Still, you know, I mean, well, how it used to be clowns and stuff like that.

Anyway, I am that was a really good show. But there's others I really loved, like Boardwalk Empire. Loved that show.

I won't watch it again. I've watched, I've seen every single episode from start to finish. Watched it when it was on, you know, when it's being made.

Peaky Blinders is another one. Absolutely love. But I've watched every single episode.

And if they bring a new, new season out, I'll watch that as well. Whatever one. The Wire.

I watched that on CD or DVD. Loved it. And I don't, my memory of it is a little bit less than it is of The Sopranos.

But I'm not going to watch it again. Because I've seen it. I don't want to watch it again.

I used to love Ally McBeal. But I watched it. I watched every episode when it was on telly.

Sequence of episodes. It's very weird, you know. Very often we'll get a Christmas edition in the summer.

Which is annoying in a way. Because there's a lot of anti-Americans in the UK. Like when it comes to TV shows.

I'm not watching anything American. I don't want to watch English stuff, you know. I'm not one of those.

But I love, I do love American shows. Have done since I was a kid. You know, from Cheers.

I was brought up on American shows. Starsky and Hutch, The A-Team, Mork & Mindy, Wonder Woman. What was it? MacGyver.

It's just, it's endless. Heart to heart. Endless.

It was so many American shows in like the late 70s, early 80s. Saturday Night was pretty much American shows, but with a bit of English stuff before. So it'd like be maybe Mork & Mindy in the early, like late afternoon.

Metal Mickey. That's American, wasn't it? I think. And then you'd have, you'd have a couple of programs on.

Maybe, what was it? Blind Date. And then what would be before Blind Date? Blind Date would probably be on about 8, 7 o'clock. There'd be something like Russabbit Madhouse or Bobby Davro or whoever was the, or Cannon & Ball if you go back.

Whoever was the big stars of the day, they'd be, they'd have their own TV shows. And we don't have so much of that these days. We've got Ant & Dec.

They're pretty much the top of, top of the pile and they have been for forever. There's like no one touches them. They are the kings of Saturday Night TV really.

Talking about little people, they're both quite short. They're not little people, but you know, they are quite short, but they're lovely. And there's a couple of other people that have, only one really that I can think of.

McIntyre, he, he has a, like a Saturday Night thing as well. So, but it's not many, it's not, it's not quite as, I don't know, what's the right word? The Family Entertainment. It's very showbiz, vaudeville kind of, a bit of everything, you know, a bit of everything.

A bit of dancing, a bit of singing, a bit of comedy, a bit of magic, there'd be like a bit of everything. And there doesn't seem to be that really much of that anymore. Which I'm surprised because a lot of people that still watch television are probably going to be, I'm guessing, I'm guessing here, I'm only going by what I hear statistically, is the television doesn't cater for the television audience.

The television audience are a much older generation. Sort of, well, I class myself in that, in that group. Because I'm an old, old man.

By the way, if you're a nice 22 year old lady, give me a call, yeah? I love to sell myself. 22. You know what? I accept, I accept that I ain't going to be everyone's, not everyone's going to want to want to date me.

And I don't care. I'm not desperate. And I like to joke about it.

But you know what? I only attract women in their 90s. Now I don't mind women in, I think women in their 90s, in fact, if anything, I probably get better, I get on better with a woman who's in her 90s than I would with someone in their 30s or 20s. Because I find, I find them very funny.

Any, men and women to be fair. Generally, but women are a bit more, well, there's more women in their 90s than there are men, clearly, for obvious reasons. But there's, they're funny, even when they're grumpy, they're funny.

You can laugh at them, or laugh with them, but laugh at what they say, I mean, not laugh at them. And I've got, I think it's probably because I'm a nan, I don't know. But got this weird, weird kind of respect for elderly, like really old people that I've always kind of had.

Now, I don't really respect anybody, not really, I don't really, not really into respecting people, but just for the sake of it. But I do have this kind of respect for elderly people. I think it's probably not respect, I've got time for them.

And I find them funny. Old elderly people, they're funny. Really, really old ladies.

They just, I've had them flirt with me and like, I'm 89, you know? Yeah, I figured I've looked at you, I can see. I mean, you have to pretend that, oh, really? You know, like, yeah, I can see you're 89. You look like an alligator.

No, just no. But it's like, just, it's like, old people look old. Young people look young.

But you have, it's like, no, you're not 99, are you? Obviously, you can't say it too loudly, because you don't want to blow towards them, because you're, you know, because they're like turned to dust. But you're really, really 99. Oh, no, she's just collapsed.
