Hello and welcome to Jason Newland dot com. My name is Jason Newland. You know, I'm trying to make this sound erotic, but it sounds like I'm on the toilet.
It does. It's not in there. My erotic voice sounds like I'm doing a poo.
Brilliant. Well, that's great news. And yeah, only listen when you can safely close your eyes and all that stuff.
If you'd like to support this free service, please go to paypal.me forward slash Jason Newland. The link is on my website as well as many, many, many, many, many free recordings from all my different podcasts that you can stream for free and download for free as well. It's all groovy stuff.
It's all groovy, groovy, groovy. So, yeah. That's all I'm saying.
I'm saying nothing else, but um, maybe a couple of, uh, get rid of that. Okay, good. Amazon wishlist.
Is there any point in having that on there? I don't know. I'm just looking at my website. Yeah, I can go there.
Nope. I want it there. There.
There. Move it. You can't see what I'm doing.
I'm doing some amazing stuff here. Just, you're not aware of it. Oh, there it is.
Done. Yeah. I'll get rid of Amazon wishlist from my menu on my website.
What's the point? What is the point? No one ever buys it. Buys it. No one ever.
I get rid of, uh, okay. So I'm just talking amongst myself. Yeah.
So, um, hope you're well. I'm tired. I'm tired.
I want to, I want to stay, you know, positive and stuff, but the fact is Andre's unwell and a bit worried about him. A bit. Yeah, I am worried about him.
He's basically, he's off his food. He's been shivering a lot. He's dragging his back feet along.
So he's either he's really weak or they're hurting him or his hips or whatever. He spend a lot of time with his hips, but like wide open, you know, like what he does when he's going to the toilet or if he's just relaxing really, you know, but they're wide open. And yeah, he's, he's, he sees there a bit of problems with his bladder as well.
Bladder control. It seems to be weird without knowing it. So I don't know.
Um, and it sounds, it sounds pretty bad. The way I described it probably, but at the moment he's on my bed, wrapped up under my quilt and he's been there for a few hours. I go see him every hour or so, every half hour, give him a cuddle, see if he's okay.
Make sure he hasn't wet my bed, but you know what? I don't care if he does wet the bed. I really don't care. You know, it's the only thing irreplaceable in this flat is him.
Everything else can be replaced. He can't. So don't know what to do.
Don't know what to do. I mean, I suppose the obvious thing, take him to the vets. Yeah.
Yeah. I'm just going to wait. Um, the problem with taking him to the vets is if they insist on giving him sedation like they did last time, I'm going to have to say no to that because he pretty much nearly didn't survive the sedation before.
He had a really, really bad reaction. And it took him a good couple of days to recover, you know, and it shouldn't take more than about two hours. So I can't risk that happening again.
And if I do go into the vets, I have to go in with him. I don't know if the vets have caught up with the rest of the country yet, as far as, you know, allowing people in and stuff. But I do need to be with him.
And if the vet needs to examine him and stuff, or to do x-rays, I can hold him. All I gotta do is just look into his eyes, put my face close to his face, hold his upper body a little bit, you know, his chest area. And he'll just lay there.
He won't move. When I'm close to him like that, he's just, I guess he feels very safe. And he's relaxed.
Which means he could have his stomach examined and his legs examined and all that stuff. So I just have to wait. I'm gonna give it another, give it another few days, see how he's getting on.
But he's not in pain. You know, I've examined him. I know I'm not a doctor.
But if you examine a body, you can generally feel if there's any pain. Because they make a noise. Now, the only thing I wouldn't know is if he's in pain when he goes to the toilet.
Or, I guess things like stomachache. I wouldn't necessarily be able to know that. But there doesn't seem to be any physical, obvious physical ailments that are hurting him.
But there is the walking problem that he's got. Which is kind of similar to before when he had his leg injured. But this time it's both legs just almost flat on the floor.
And he's sort of dragging himself along. Now, you know, it's not he's got an itchy bum. He's not trying to scratch his bum on the carpet.
Although he does do that. This is something different. Something different.
So I'm not quite sure what's what's happening. And yeah, I mean, it could be just he's got a cold or he's got a virus or he's just under the weather. And he may be fine by the weekend.
Yeah, hopefully that is the case. But I don't know. He's really gone downhill really fast.
And even the last couple of weeks where he's been cuddling me. Well, I've had him on my lap and he's just laid there cuddling me. That's unusual for him.
Because he's very active when he's awake. He's very active, moving around doing stuff. And I've not seen him be hardly active at all.
He's just sleeping. But I still take him out every day. Still took him out today.
And I was just holding him. Taking him to the Yeah, I just picked him up, just was gonna carry him, you know, outside and carry him to the park and then let him off on the grass and let him just see what he wants to do. And he starts weeing on the floor.
He's in my arms and he's weeing. Now, he's never done that once without trying to get down first. He's done it a couple of times just because he's not been able to get down.
And they don't get a lot of notice. You know, it's really like, Andre, you need to wee or you need to poo. This is your six second notice.
And that's about it. So when that happens, he lets me know, you know, gently to start with and then forcefully if, you know, he's very kind of get me down now. So in the odd, you know, couple of times I didn't realize that he was trying to do that.
And I was ignoring him, holding on to him tightly and he's had to go. This is not his fault. But this time he didn't attempt to get down.
Didn't let me know. It's almost like he didn't even know he was doing it. So I don't know.
Speaking of the little monkey, I just heard him moving around. So I just pressed pause and went into the bedroom to see if he was all right. And he was just in the process of jumping off the bed.
And he landed absolutely fine. And he was walking absolutely fine, running to go to the toilet. And he went to the toilet, did his whole thing.
The whole process of what he does. And then was wiping his bum on the carpet. It's gross, really, it really is.
But I would all do it if we could, wouldn't we? And he just laid there, just laid down on the floor. And I'm looking at this thing that looks like he just done. And honestly, it looks like a quarter of a digestive biscuit.
Like light brown, like a digestive biscuit. And I'm thinking now that could not come out of his bum. I don't spend a lot of time looking at things that come out of his bum, and thinking whether or not things look like they might have come out of his bum.
I don't give a lot of time to that. But the moment I'm just looking at all possibilities regarding his health, which involves his bum, and his tummy, and you know, general, regular bodily functions and stuff. It's my job.
It's my job to do that. And it's not gross when you do it for someone you love. I mean, I'm not going to like pick it up and start, you know, dissecting it to see.
Yeah, yeah, I'm not. No, but I'm looking at it from a distance. And it don't look like anything I've ever seen come out of his bum before.
Again, I don't study everything that comes out of his bum. Can we move on, please? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Well, I don't know if he's had any dry food.
I've not seen him eat any, but his poo's normally the colour of the dry food, dark brown.
His stool, let's be all clinical, his stool is dark brown. Now that, unless it's rated the biscuit jar, that's weird, honestly. But if it is a kind of, maybe the eggs weren't good for him, because normally he loves eggs, but he doesn't have them that often.
But he's never been ill with an egg before. So if that is the problem, then he should be alright in a couple of days, in a day or so. Maybe he's got a bit of food poisoning.
I don't know how that's possible, considering the things he eats, which actually makes it more possible when you think about it. But his constitution is pretty, pretty good. You know, he's generally not that fussy what he puts in his mouth.
Not when it comes to eating, but just like testing. You know, he'll like bite something and it doesn't matter what it is, he'll like have a nibble on it just to see. But when it comes to eating, he's very fussy.
He's a fussy eater. Beans on toast with sausages only, that's all he'll eat. Now wait a minute, that's me.
That used to be me. I'd only eat beans on toast when I was a kid, when I was about seven. Seven.
Seven years old, beans on toast. Did not like any of the other stuff, especially, especially cabbage. Now, I didn't realize that cabbage can actually be made to taste nice.
Well, nicer. Well, edible. Well, you know, just, okay, the taste could be improved.
It's, well, okay, how do you, how do you improve dog poo? No, I don't mean it's, cabbage isn't as awful, doesn't have to be awful. Now, where I used to live, and this is no, to be fair, I don't want to say anything bad about the cooks at the children's home because I don't, cooking for, you know, a large group of people, it's not easy. So they were cooking for, I don't know how many kids, maybe 40 kids, maybe more.
And then another, maybe 20 nuns. And probably themselves as well, although I imagine most of them would have just took a packed lunch to work. And then it was the volunteers and the support workers and stuff.
So there may well have been, you know, a good 50, 50 or 60 people eating every, every dinner time. I don't know the amount, it's a huge place. And I think there's more than one sitting for dinner as well.
So they'd have lots, you know, have like two or three sittings because of the amount of people, the amount of kids. So, you know, I've been, having worked in catering in the past, I know that it's a very, it's not an easy job. Necessarily, it's not that hard in a sense of, if you're doing the same thing every day, even if it's difficult, it stops being difficult if you're doing the same thing every day.
You know, I imagine people that do brain surgery, after a few years of going inside people's brains, it's probably not that complicated to them. You know, all of the anesthesia is being done by someone else. The, any kind of blood transfusions is being handled by somebody else.
You're just dealing with that one thing. The, you know, the brain mining or whatever it is. And, and that's a good thing in a sense, if someone's doing something even that important, let's face it, as far as physical stuff, it's among the most important things there is, like the brain and that.
There's a thing they say, if you, if we didn't become automatic with our driving, there would be more accidents on the roads. If everyone drove like they were beginners and became like conscious of every single movement they made when they drove, then there'd be huge amounts of accidents. So being able to do things automatically is a bonus for being good at something, including, I don't know, being a surgeon.
I love talking about stuff I've got no idea what I'm on about, but it do not stop me one inch, not even a half an inch. And as we all know, a half an inch is quite a distance. I wonder what it'd be like being a surgeon.
Not really my thing. Not something I'm particularly, not really been that interested in that kind of stuff. I like the idea of, you know, the idea of saving people's lives and things like that.
But I don't really have a fascination for the body. I'm fascinated by the brain and the mind and how the body is affected by the brain and the mind. I'm fascinated from that angle.
You know, the healing process and the relaxation process and the pain relief process, you know, that kind of stuff. How the mind, how the way we think, what we say to ourselves, what we expect to happen, how that all affects how we feel in a huge way. Physically and emotionally and mentally and environmentally and societally and familiarly and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I have a rubub for you. I wondered if you'd like to come out for a meal or two. So... Oh yeah, Andre.
So he's... Basically what I've done is I picked him up again and I chucked him on the bed. No, I put him on the bed, gave him big kisses and wrapped him up again in the bed. So he's gone back to sleep.
I was very impressed the fact that he was using his back legs. So I'm wondering if he's just showing off when I'm not around, he's using his legs. Apparently, I'm not saying he's making out, but apparently I remember my dad... He said that one day... Because my nan was disabled and she physically couldn't really get around very well.
But he said he went in there, he went to visit her. And before he rang the doorbell, even though he had a key, he still used to ring the doorbell, usually before going in. What he did, he sort of... It was his wife, she rang the doorbell.
He didn't go in and he looked through the window and she was sitting there. And suddenly the doorbell went and she jumped up and was running around making the place tidy. And he's like, I can't believe she can move that quickly.
And then when she comes in, she's sitting there. Oh, hello dear. I'm exaggerating, but... She did have a lot of energy in her.
Even... I don't think she pretended she didn't have energy at all. I think what it was is she got excited when she had a visitor and it gave her that boost of energy. From being half asleep watching telly to being wide awake, realising that she wanted the settee or the cushions on the settee to look tidy.
And whatever it is she needed to do. So it was a boost of energy. It's a little bit like the Incredible Hulk.
Do you remember at the beginning of the television show years... We're going back a long time. Check it out on YouTube. Beginning of the Incredible Hulk TV show.
And it shows... It's the intro. Basically it shows Bill Bixby trying to change a tyre in a storm. And I think he gets electrocuted and then he tries to get the tyre off and it doesn't happen.
He gets angry and he turns into the Incredible Hulk. Was he called the Incredible Hulk or just the Hulk? The Incredible Hulk probably. I'm not saying my nan was the Incredible Hulk.
Don't get me wrong. She wasn't Bill Bixby either. I imagine she was a lot stronger than Bill Bixby.
He always looked like he'd have trouble doing his own shoelaces up. I don't know why. Bill can you pick the pencil up please? It's too heavy.
Go on Bill, just pick it up. No, it's too heavy. I don't think I can lift the pencil today.
I think I'll let someone else do it. Bill, have I got to make you angry again just in order to get you to pick the pen up? I thought you said the pencil. Bill, do you really want me to make you angry? No, I don't think you should.
Why? I don't think you'd like me when I'm angry. I don't think so. Because I get all big and green.
And my farts are awful. You mean unlike now. They're already awful.
No, that's a bit rude. Come on. Get over yourself.
So yeah, my name was not like the Incredible Hulk. I wasn't saying that. There was no connection there.
I don't know why. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why do you do things you do to me? Thank you. Cheers.
I used to have a girlfriend once. It's true. That's it.
That's the whole story. I used to have a girlfriend and whenever... What's the right word? I'm trying to think of a euphemism. Whenever I... Whenever the snake vomited.
I don't know. That's not one. Whenever... Whenever I wave goodbye to the circus.
That's not a good euphemism, is it? It doesn't... Whenever you wave goodbye to the circus. That's not even a sensical... Whenever I shave my mum's back. Nope, that's not one either.
Whenever... Whenever I had... Emptied the toothpaste... Bottle. Yeah, do you know what I mean? Tube. Whenever I emptied the... Whenever I emptied the glue tube.
Whenever... I'd... Sit on a whoopsie cushion. Whoopsie. Whoopie.
Whoopsie cushion? That sounds nicer than whoopie cushion. Whoopsie. Whenever I... I don't know.
You know, whenever I... Whenever the chickens escaped. No, that's not a good one. At the end of our... Special... Two to three minutes together.
There was a certain event. Certain... Eruption, you may say. And... Or tornado.
I'm not sure what you used to call it. A light breeze, but... A tornado. When the tornado was... Had come... To it's final... Destination.
When I gunked. No. Gunked.
It's a horrible way to gunk. Oh, let me gunk. Anyway.
There was this girl, woman, lady. I was just... At the end, I remember the first time. This is 1994.
No, 1993. It's a long time ago. I remember I looked at her, I said... Cheers.
And... She found that hilarious. It's very, very formal, isn't it? Thank you very much for that... Piece of... Course. Course? Or inter, you know.
What do you mean, making love? Yeah, I just didn't want to say it. Why not? Well... I don't love you. No, I just... I just said, yeah, I said, cheers.
And it was our thing. And then... She'd say, cheers. And I'd say, cheers.
Every time. For the next 20 years. 1994.
2000. 2004. Not 20 years.
Too far? No. No, she was well and truly married by then. But for quite a few years.
Before she... I used to sort of... Meet up with her when she was... In between relationships and stuff. Although I did date her once. Yeah, once.
For about 10 months or 8 months or something. It was too long. Which is something that no woman's ever said to me.
And she said... Maybe she phoned me, I was in Ireland. And she said... Jason. I said, yeah.
She said... I need to speak to you. I said... What is it, April? Or whatever her name was. She said... I don't know how to say it.
Now, I believed it. Because she wasn't... You know, the brightest. No.
No, she was great. She said, I don't know how to say it. I said, well.
Why don't you pretend you do know how to say it. And then just say that. Oh, you are clever.
I said, oh. It means a lot coming from you. So, what did you want to... What did you want to say? Oh dear.
What is it, my dear? Well... I've met somebody else. Somebody new. I said, really? She said, yes.
His name's Arnold. I said, I didn't ask his name. So, you've met someone else? Yes.
So, what about us? And she said something that I'll always remember. She said... No, I've forgotten. What did she say? Oh yeah, she said... You moved to Ireland.
I said, yeah, I know. Well... I said, yeah. That's another country, isn't it? It is.
And then she said to me something very weird. She said... Do you ever think that we will call it the Island of Ireland? Instead of just Ireland? I said, no. I can't see that ever happening.
Why would we? What would be the point? That would be just ridiculous. Some kind of political bull crap. Oh, I wish you wouldn't swear.
Why not? Well, some people don't like it. I said, okay. Well, why are you calling me to let me know that you're dumping me? Well... I kind of feel that, like... I kind of feel that... You dumped me... When you moved to Ireland.
Yeah... I didn't dump you though, did I? Well, you moved away, didn't you? I said... Yeah, I said, yeah, I did. I did indeed move away. Um... I can't argue with that.
I did actually move away and have a drink of coke. Oh, you're still drinking the coke then, are you? Yeah, I am, thanks. What is your favourite thing? Excuse me.
What? Why? Composure. Aren't you worried about your teeth? No, I'm not. Why? I said, I don't know.
I don't want to talk about that now. Well, what would you like to talk about then? I don't know. You could tell me about Arnold.
Who's Arnold? That's your husband, isn't it? I can't remember what name I told you. Yeah, fair enough, but you know his name though, don't you? I mean, you're... I mean, you're husband. You're getting married.
You're with him, so you know, you're his... You're boyfriend and girlfriend. Yes, that is correct. Well, congratulations.
Oh. So, what do you want me to say? I don't know, really. I was just... I wasn't sure how you would react.
Well, there's not really, in reality, much that I can do about this because you're living in a different country. To me, we're in different countries. Aren't we? So, you know, you've met someone new.
Good for you. I'm gonna... Just, you know, I'd like to come and see you when I come back, you know, visit. Because, you know, it's good that we've been friends for a long time.
Well, we have, yes. She doesn't talk anything like that, I don't know. She's more like this.
Anyway, I'll stick to it. Yeah, so that's good for you. I mean, as long as you're happy with him.
He's got a big willy. Lovely. Why are you telling me that? Oh, I don't know, really.
Okay. He makes me laugh. That's good.
That's nice. I like laughing. It's one of my favourite things.
Laughing. Yeah, I think you'll find that everybody likes laughing. It's not a unique attribute just to you.
I like cooking as well. That's good, good. But I like laughing more.
Yeah, it's nice. It's nice to laugh. It just feels nice, you know.
Yeah, I know. I know, it's good. You're right, I like to laugh as well.
But I just wouldn't say it out loud like that. Because it's almost, I like to breathe. Funny you should say that.
I like breathing. Yeah, I know. That was my point.
Everybody likes to breathe. Everybody likes to eat. Generally everybody, you know, there's human things that we share that everybody pretty much does.
Like eating, sleeping, going to the toilet, laughing, breathing, talking, reading, some people. I'm not really into reading. I don't see the point really.
No, I didn't think so. What do you mean? Well, if you talk to someone you can get an idea if they've, you know, read a book. What, just one book? Well, you know, maybe a few more than one, but if someone has, I don't know, it's just, there's a sense someone who reads generally seems to have, again I might be exaggerating, which I probably am generalizing, but more of a capability of communicating in more than just one way and to be able to see more than just one point of view, to be able to see things from different angles and I think reading can perhaps contribute to that in some way.
Do you know what I mean? No, not really. I watched a film the other day. That's really interesting.
Was it good? You know what one it was? No. It was that French film that we watched together. What French film? Do you want me to subtitles? Okay, that narrows it down.
A French movie with English subtitles. No, this is the one that we both really enjoyed. The funny one.
It made me laugh. I love to laugh. Yeah, I know.
A French film, what happened? Oh, you've forgotten? Well, there's a couple of scenes in it that you'll remember if I tell you. One is there's this man, he's a psychiatrist and he's sitting in an office facing his patient and the patient lays down on a couch and starts talking and he closes his eyes. Okay, that doesn't sound that funny.
Ah, but then the psychiatrist, once he sees the patient's got his eyes closed he walks out of the room into the back part of the room he makes himself a coffee, a bit of toast and then he goes off somewhere. Yeah. Well, he's got an alarm clock or something on his watch to tell him that he needs to get back in the room before the person opens their eyes.
Okay. Well, the patient opens his eyes and as he looks at him the psychiatrist walks into the room. What's wrong with that? A psychiatrist doesn't have to sit in the chair.
Well, you know, as far as the patient knows he's just gone to get a pen or something like that. No, but he walked in by a different door. He walked in by a different door? Yeah, so the patient could see that he's left the room.
Okay. That sounds quite humorous. But I guess, you know, you have to see the thing for it to really work.
Yeah, I agree. Oh, the other story was a bit, there was this man in a caravan which had holes in the ceilings and there was a bunch of buckets on the floor catching the water that was coming in through the holes. Okay, so I'm guessing what, he tripped over, slipped over some kind of physical comedy like that? No, not at all.
Why would he slip over? I don't know, just maybe he tripped over the buckets. He knew they were there, he put them there. Why would he trip over his own buckets? Besides, why would that be funny? Him hurting himself? Physical injury isn't a joke.
So what happened? Ah, well, another, yeah, one of the buckets was starting to get to the top, it was full and he was going to change it with another bucket but all the other buckets were pretty much full and there was no spare buckets. So he needed to empty it and then put it back down just to continue carrying and catching the water. Okay, so what did he do? What was the solution? He emptied the bucket on the floor.
He emptied all the water on the floor of the caravan and just put the bucket back to carry on catching the drips of water from the ceiling. Now that is funny. That is something I'd love to see again.
Do you know what the movie, I remember, yeah, I think we was quite up late smoking, quite late at night watching that. Sounds like a Channel 4 film. I don't know which channel it was on.
Why do you ask me things like that? Okay, sorry. You and your channels. What channel was it on? I did not say it like that.
I just said it sounds like Channel 4. Yeah, but you were putting down Channel 4. Making out it was a silly movie. It wasn't a silly movie. It was a funny movie.
And it was our movie. You'd forgotten all about it. Stuff has happened since then.
We're talking early 1994. 1994? Yeah, we were talking quite a long time ago. It's not that long ago, is it? It's only, it's only what, October now, 1994? I'm sorry, I forgot.
I thought it was in 2021. You what? Nah, it's okay, don't worry. I lose track of where I am in these things.
So can I ask you something? Yeah, if you want. Do you get out much? What? Do you get out much? Do you get out? Do you have friends? Well, I got my friend that I'm in Ireland with, Andre. That's it.
That's the only friend I've got. But I did meet a female. We've been going out and I went to the cinema with her and been to the pubs with Andre.
Met his cousin. She was lovely. Really liked her.
But no, nothing's really happening there. Okay. What, what was that? Weird.
Okay. I don't sound like that. Yeah, you do.
I don't sound like that. Don't mimic my voice. You know I don't like it.
I don't like it. Stop it. No, no.
You're going to wind me up in a minute. Stop it. No, seriously, okay, I'll stop.
Okay, I've stopped. And, yeah. So good luck with your new relationship with Arnold.
I do. Whatever his name is. I wish you all the best.
In fact, if I could play the guitar or a musical instrument, I would write you a song telling you exactly how much I wish you the best in all your endeavours concerning said human. I just want you to be happy. Happy.
Will you be happy for me? Please be happy. I don't care if it's with somebody else as long as you're happy. I don't care about myself.
You just be happy. Please be happy. Okay then.
You are cute really. Thank you very much. Look at him.
His chubby cheeks. You know what? What? I've got a solution for you. What was that? Well, there's... I kind of... Having dated you for a while for a little while I could tell you how you could find someone while you're in Ireland.
What do you mean? Like a girlfriend? Hmm. Yeah, I suppose. Alright.
What's your... What's your idea? Well You could start by washing daily. Just, you know having a wash so you don't stink of fish. I don't stink... Why do you always say that I don't stink of fish? No, you really do.
But not the good kind. Not the good kind of stinking of fish. Yeah.
