#555 Let me bore you to sleep

But it's going to be back at some point. Just waiting for certain things to occur before I can get it back. I'm just looking to see if I've got any messages.

I've got a message from someone called Leslie Mann. Hi are you Stuart's mate? I replied I don't know anyone called Stuart. And she replied hi I'm Stuart's mum are you ok? And then hi are you ok? And I just did a thumbs up.

I don't know anyone called Stuart. No I don't know anyone called Stuart. No nobody.

Ok. So there is someone called Ash who is looking to do a podcast. He said I've motivated him.

Oh yeah I've inspired him to record some podcasts. So cool go for it. I've thought about giving a bit of information.

Or I don't know about advice but on how to put together a podcast. So I could kind of go into a few of those details because it is boring for those that don't want to know. But for those that do want to know I'd still make it kind of boring.

I'll make it so whatever enthusiasm you had would have left. Yeah! No if the thing is right. I have been making podcasts for my first podcast I started in 97.

2007 that was my first podcast. So it's now 2020. It's a while.

I've been making videos for longer but the podcast 2007 was the first one I did. And I've been making podcasts ever since. The thing I put most of my energy into was the videos for a long time.

YouTube specifically. But for a while and over. I'm trying to think what years it was.

I could do a little bit of research as I as I go ahead. But I did. I used every single video platform that was available.

And when I say video platform I just basically mean websites like YouTube. And there were many. Might seem hard to believe.

Considering there's not really any competition to YouTube. Not really. I mean the only.

And I've used this I used to be a member of this one. Video websites. I forget its name now.

Vimeo. Vimeo.com It's in a sense is exactly the same as YouTube. But it's really not.

So the difference there's a big difference between the two. Is I think Vimeo started out trying to be like YouTube. But like every other.

Video. Website. You know it couldn't compete.

Most of the others just fell fell fell off the log as it were. So what Vimeo does it allows you to make professional videos in a sense of. It's good for universities schools people that provide.

Content for hire or content for sale. So you can sell your videos or you can rent them out stuff like that. So it's very good for that kind of stuff.

It's got its own niche because YouTube doesn't offer that service. It's got its own niche. So it is good I've been with them.

Many times over the years. There was a time I had all my videos on there. But now.

Because I don't really well I haven't for quite a few years now really put any effort into videos. It's all been about the podcasts for the last. However many years when there was a time when it was back it was side by side videos and podcasts.

Videos always got more of an audience. Podcasts ticked along. Still getting and I still had an audience.

But depending on which podcast host depending that you know that varied on what kind of quantity of people would listen. The YouTube was my at the time. I was getting 45,000 plays of my videos on my YouTube channel.

And that was at the height of my success. I know 45,000 isn't a lot really but at the time for me it was. And 45,000 is nothing now is that's not even a week.

If that's not even a week it's not nice not even a week of podcast listens. But. It's okay so I've got there are a few different websites for still around apparently.

But. Wow this stuff that I've not seen before not. I didn't know that was still alive.

There's some that I didn't. Oh wow. Okay here we go.

So number one these are websites like YouTube alternatives just out of interest Dailymotion. I've been on Dailymotion. Since it began.

And I've got videos still on there. In fact let me have a look. Open up Dailymotion.

Will it give me a click to Dailymotion? Yeah it will. So if I go into Dailymotion.com. And if I search for me. Here we go.

Wow. So there's there's a few videos on there of mine. I say a few one two.

Oh no that's not me. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 16 17 18 19 20. 2 4 6 8 32 4 6 8. 40 or 50 I don't know anyway.

That's how many videos I got. Technically. Not particularly interested.

But. There's. Some old videos that you won't see anywhere else.

So there's a 10 minute relaxation session. 25th of April 2007. So 14 years ago.

Right it's been on there for 14 years. Can you even imagine how popular I am? Wow. Imagine how many views I've got.

You ready? 91. 91 views in 14 years. Wow.

Admittedly that is. I have got some with more views. So I'm probably putting myself down a little bit there.

But I've got one with less. Day 1 7 day cure insomnia hypnosis course. I put that on there 6 years ago.

It's 34 views. Feet licking dog. That's one of my videos.

Oh no. See this is these. Wait a minute.

Some of these were put on by other people. So Equable Place. That's the name of the YouTube.

Daily motion channel. Wasn't me. So someone put my videos up.

So that has got 383. Okay. So the ones that I put up.

I did an update 11th of August 2009. That was the precursor to my Jason Chats. 567 views.

11 years. Wow. 10 minute relaxation 7 15th of April 07.

541 views 14 years. Whoa. But for me, it's like wow.

2007 2007 people. 2007 And look at myself. And knowing where I was living at the time.

And April that's just before I lost one before I had to give that job up. And that was. That was a period when I was promoting my free hypnosis service in the local area.

And. I might have already started the voluntary work at the alcohol. Charity as well.

Doing relaxation sessions. Wow. Actually, I did do.

I should do this Monday night thing at this charity when I first started and it was a group to help. Those that volunteered that wanted to sort of come along that were, you know, under the service. And.

For about an hour and a half. I would do would do a relaxation session at the end, but then I'd do some different exercises and stuff to try and help, you know. And it seemed to be popular the people that came along really liked it.

And then one night. I think it was like really particularly bad weather. And only one person turned up.

And there's only there's only like maybe four or five people in the group, but one person turned up. So what I did with her. Is I said, well, if you want, we can just do a long hypnosis session.

And she was up for that. So we did a long pretty over an hour. Of her sitting there and me talking.

And. I didn't see her for a couple of weeks. And she came back and she said that she hadn't had a drink since that session.

Now she'd already cut down on this point that out because it's it's Dane can be dangerous just to stop drinking. Especially if you're doing the amount she was doing through two bottles of vodka every night. You know, it's the idea is you you reduce.

To the point and then you stop. Otherwise, it can cause seizures and stuff. So, but she'd gone through that.

She'd already reduced the amount she was drinking. But she just stopped altogether. And she said to me, what did you say? She said, I don't remember the don't remember the session.

I remember sitting there, but I think I fell asleep. What did you actually say to me? Because I haven't wanted to drink since. I said, it's a secret.

So yeah, that was. The second time that happened. Like that.

There's another time when I did it with someone who was very, very depressed. And. I talked to them for about an hour and a half, two hours, maybe.

And next time I saw them, they were really happy. Almost just like unrecognizable. That was a long time ago.

That was 20 odd years ago. I reckon probably 20 years ago. So, so that's daily motion.

Okay. Now. I want to go back and have a look at what the other ones are.

You got Metacafe. I used to be a member of Meta. Well, I guess maybe I still am, but.

Metacafe used to be brilliant. Okay. Used to be brilliant.

Because. It was almost more popular than YouTube. In a sense of I put a video on there and I would get thousands of views of that video.

But really quickly. And. With YouTube, it took a little bit of took a while.

So let's say if I'm on air, no, it doesn't look like I'm on air anymore. Jason and. I mean, it might have changed the way that they do what they do.

It might not be. Hypnosis. Jason and hypnosis.

You don't get a chance to upload your own stuff to Hulu. No. So it's nothing like YouTube.

Where are they coming from with this? Twitch. Twitch got closed down, didn't it? Is Twitch still around? But that's for gamers anyway. Mind you.

On these kinds of things. Because I'm not. I'm not doing this just to.

Use up time, you know. This is not doing it to take my mind off the day. As entertainment for myself.

It's music videos. I don't know how you get onto there. But you basically.

This looks like you need to be a. A music star. And Vivo is. From the looks of it, it's pretty much.

It's so entwined with. YouTube. It's ridiculous.

So that's no good. That's that's good for the music, but. Part two effort.

What about video about videos? There was. There were loads. I want to do a little bit of research.

Best websites from the 90s. List of online video platforms. Okay, this should have it.

Because it's got. Wikipedia, so probably have. Nope, it's not at all.

Gone. Let's have a look. There's Metacafe was a really good one.

Metacafe. Again, it was. Really nice platform easy to use.

Really, you know, simple to use. It was fast. And.

Upload stuff and people be watching it straight away. It was, you know, a nice way to get. Hundreds or thousands of plays of a video.

In a short time, so that was quite nice. But it seems any of the these websites these YouTube. Video websites.

There were good seem to not last very long because. Even though in some ways they were nicer to use than YouTube. They because YouTube is.

It's not always the easiest to maneuver around. Due to the content. My know that people that are into watching.

Football videos would get annoyed at the amount of hypnosis videos are on YouTube, you know, so but it's it can be. Perhaps it could be. To find stuff.

Specifically, it's not always that easy. I think it's really better now than it used to be. In some ways, but now there's even more stuff on there.

So I think it's like 500 hours every minute. Is put onto YouTube or something like that. Wow.

So yeah, VEOH as well. So I used to. Let's have a look if they got links to the.

VE Vimeo. Oh, good. Okay, this is good.

Twitch have done VEOH. It's still around. Oh my goodness.

It is still around, but it's in Chinese. It's in. Chinese.

Some scam websites. It's almost as if they've taken over someone else's website. And made some pages.

To dodge it. It's not even the people that own the website don't even know. Right.

Oh deleted. Oh damn didn't mean to do that. Yes I did.

Promotion to over 20 million peoples. 20 million peoples. In your target audience and location.

What do we do? The thing is is someone can't speak if they can't write properly. And this has got missing full stops and capital letters. I'm not saying it should be perfectly.

Punctuated but there's a lot is not even attempted to. So if you can't even punctuate a message. Correctly.

20 over to help you promotion to over 20 million peoples. In your targeted audience and location. What do we do? No capital there.

All of our work is manual and organic. Apart from writing this email I guess. Because if you were writing this manually.

Your. Editor that you are typing it on that you would. Automatically tell you that you need full stops.

And you need capital letters. And it would highlight the words peoples. But we use the full organic system to promote podcasts.

Been a weird day today. I think. Like earlier on.

I can't remember what I was like last night. I can't remember. But earlier on today.

I think it's because my podcast is supposed to pay out today. Which means that's the money that I pay. That I've been waiting on.

To pay for other stuff. To pay for things. For all the equipment and everything.

And. You know like with everybody it's a juggle isn't it. It's a sort of juggle things around to make sure that.

The money's in the bank when the money needs to be taken out of the bank. Well. A big chunk has to go out tomorrow.

There ain't nothing in there. And the bank's already taken me. Into an overdraft that I don't even have.

So I'm over. Overspent by. I don't know six pounds or something.

And I don't quite know how they managed to do that. Because I don't have an overdraft. But it's going to be.

Weird because if that money doesn't go in. Before tomorrow. Then I'm going to owe hundreds of pounds.

It's a little bit annoying. But. The thing is.

I messaged them. And I was thinking. So I got up and I was thinking.

Well it's not in yet. It's not in yet. Why is it not in yet? It's supposed to be in the 30th of the month.

That's what they say. 30th of the month or sooner. So 30th of November.

Is the next payment. Nothing. And last month they took four days to get it out.

So late by four days. Every other month. Before that apart from once.

And it's usually on time and. You know to be fair. A lot of the time I don't even do it.

So when I do get anything it's like pennies. So this is. This month I've tried to do it every day.

So I try to sort of stick to. The advertising. Although it's.

It's hard. It's hard for me to do. But I still try and do it.

I do struggle with this you know. I struggle. But.

Made it a little bit easier. When Spreaker put my money up. To $120 just for the podcast.

Hosting. I can't get that money from somewhere. I can't rely on.

The good nature of people. Listening to sort of send me PayPal gifts. It's.

You know so. Got to stick with the advertising. But.

They haven't paid me. And I need to pay. You know the equipment I use.

The. The iPad. That I use to record this on and to edit.

You know the monthly payment goes out tomorrow for that. The phone that I use. Quite a lot.

For this stuff as well. It is. For the videos and also for.

Doing research while I'm doing recordings. That payment goes out. The Amazon.

Monthly payment goes out at some point. For the microphone. So I use that microphone stand in the new microphone.

For the new YouTube videos I make. Although I've not made. I have not made one today.

I can't be bold to do it every day. It's. Although I get more.

More listens or more views on YouTube when it's a video. It's just a hassle to set it all up. Well it's not a hassle but.

For example I was doing the. What is it. Oh yeah Jason's bedtime story time.

And I was coughing at the beginning of it. I'm you know I edited it out of the audio version. For the podcast.

But. I left it in. For the I mean I could have edited.

I could have muted a little bit out. But I don't know how to use the software yet. I'm still learning how to use it.

For the video. So I left it in with the coughing. It's just like oh.

So you know there's there's a bit of work to be done. A bit a bit of work. I'll get I'll get used to it but for some reason.

I got up and I looked at the money wasn't in and I thought and I saw the bank was. Saying I took six pounds out of my bank that I don't have. I just kind of.

Annoyed me slightly annoyed me. And. So I started canceling things started.

Canceling. The things that I like audible. It's seven ninety nine a month seven dollars or seven pound ninety nine a month.

And I use audible. Regularly every day. I listen to not podcasts I listen to books.

And every day. Without fail pretty much. Probably two three hours a day at least a couple of hours a day.

And that's part of my class as part of my education. The. So that's important to have this.

But I cancelled it. I've still got the recordings on there but. It's yeah.

About 50 recordings now 50 books. So I've had it for a couple of years. I cancelled Netflix.

I cancelled Amazon. And then I thought I went to bed and I thought. Oh wait a minute.

What my canceling these things these are tiny little bits of money. You know 15 15 pounds a month for Netflix and Amazon. 20 whatever so that 550 a week but for all three things.

So I know so I've got to put them back on there because they don't run out for weeks. So I put them back to continue the subscription there. I've already got rid of the BT subscription which was for the sports but I got that for the boxing.

But that was just something that I needed to do the weekend. But. I got rid of that.

I got rid of iTunes which I thought I'd got rid of but they. Automatically. Took 10 pound out of my account.

So I've got that for probably three weeks. And then that will cancel. But I go through periods when I do listen to a lot of music.

And in times when I don't listen to nothing. But a time when I probably do listen is most is if I go out. So I've got my headphones.

I go out. I can download the music to my phone. If you're a subscriber you can download it.

I think it's probably the same with Spotify and Amazon music and all that stuff. So I don't need to use any of my data. To listen to the music.

So which is quite handy and as soon as the subscription runs out. You can no longer get access to the. The songs in fact you know they did.

They couldn't take the 10 pound out of my account so it wasn't enough. So they closed it. And then when they opened it again.

And they took 10 pound out. Every single one of my songs was removed. Every album everything.

Was just completely wiped off. It's still available to get you know to sort of search for. But all my collections completely gone.

Never been so angry. Never been so hungry. I could.

I'm not particularly hungry today. But I could eat at some point. Vimeo.

I think I'll tell you why I like pink. First because. You know.

It goes against. What men are supposed to like. Boys and men not supposed to like pink.

Socially. And you may say. Oh that's not true.

And it is. Trust me. You know.

You know it's. Personally. I could not care.

About what other people think. And. Pink to me is such a. A welcoming.

Comfortable. And welcoming. I don't know.

I'll be honest with you I am. I know. Whatever.

For whatever reason. Not everybody's a big fan of. Other countries or whatever.

But I. I love America. I think if I got a chance. I'd probably quite like to live there.

Probably would actually. I'd probably prefer. Yeah I'd probably quite like to live in America.

So. I. I. But I do get a little bit. I guess annoyed but just a bit confused sometimes.

When so many. This country we embrace. So much the mannerisms of America.

The. Jargon isms it jargon isms that right word. And you know every generation takes more and more.

We basically are a miniature America. And you don't realize it. Really.

I mean some people in America might think that. England is like Mary Poppins. And England they what they see.

In documentaries and on TV shows is like the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. And the period dramas costume dramas you know. Where they're living in a big house a big manor.

And everyone is rich and posh and drinking tea. Well. If you want to.

Yeah I mean basically. No. That's not what this country is like.

And. I was going to say closer to this country would be shameless. But the UK version of shameless TV show.

That is more. More but again that's more on the. That's the more extreme scummy side.

Of this country. It's a shameless you know where everyone's thieving and. Just basically up to no good.

Even I love this show. It's very brilliant show very funny and. It's basically a bunch of its pond life.

It's kind of. That that's kind of what it represents. And.

So. Of course we have that here. We have posh people here we have rich people poor people.

But. It's a lot more than that you know it's not just one thing. Of course you've got some few.

A couple of people that. Just thieves. That's what they do.

And he's smelly stinky horrible. Just disgusting thieves. But they can't help it I reckon it's it's an illness.

So I've got to think of it as an illness otherwise. It's when I shoot them when you got thing was it must be an illness. So you know let's let's let them.

Let them live. But yeah I think this this. If you're in America or Canada or if you've never been there.

I reckon it'd be a bit of a shock. To actually come here and see that. It ain't nothing.

Like what you imagined not really. If you really want to know if you want to get your head around what it's like. Think of a really really.

Rainy day. Where it's overcast. That's a star.

That's a star so rainy overcast. Miserable looking people. Depends what part of the country you're in but people.

If you're in London. You won't get eye contact. Why would you want it.

But you know it's not really much eye contact. But that's the good thing about London is for me. The unfriendliness is the best part of it.

Because. It's not like. Little villages.

Or like the old days when everyone's in each other's businesses gossiping. Can't do that in London because. Chances are your next door neighbours.

May not even speak the same language as you. Or you may not speak the same language as them. So it's hard to gossip about people.

Or with people that you don't understand. So that's the good thing about London. There are parts of the country.

That. If you. See I used to live in.

Where did I live in. Green Street. In West Ham.

Or East Ham. West Ham. And.

If he was from another country. Right. And they.

Literally blindfolded you. So if he was in America. Blindfolded you.

Brought you to that street. On a Saturday. This is 20 years ago so it might be different now.

But it's. And it's. Blindfolded you and then just sat you down.

You know stood you up and just took the mask off. And said. Where are you.

You wouldn't know. So that's. It's a very.

So it's a lot of mixture of different people. So it's great. And it's.

It's interesting it's not. Not like I think. Is.

Portrayed on the television. I mean to be fair. There's parts of this country that aren't portrayed on television.

To the other parts of the country. And it would be a shock. I know people have gone up to.

A different part of the country and like wow. Very different to what they expected. Because never been there before.

And there was a time. Where you could go to any part of the country and the only difference really was the accents. Different accents.

That would be kind of the only real difference and maybe. The smell you know the air pollution and stuff like that. So I think it's interesting it's.

How things have progressed. Over the years. But I could see how it was hard for the older generation.

To suddenly. Have to. To I don't know.

To have to behave themselves. You know for me it's it's easier because I've kind of been brought. I've been.

Almost brought up in a multicultural society. I lived in a children's home. And there was lots of different.

Nationalities. Or. Types of people kids live in there.

So I didn't really think anything of it I didn't. Didn't really you know. Nothing and then I moved to a little town.

And. There was. It was.

99.9.9.9.9 percent. Caucasian. And then I moved to London.

And I lived in an area. Which was predominantly not white. Statistically not like.

Some people say oh. No statistically it was. Lots of different other.

Countries living there. And then I moved away from London. And I remember I was on a bus.

And I ended up with another kind of predominantly. It's probably 95 percent. Predominantly white area.

And I'm sitting on a bus. And. I felt uncomfortable.

Didn't understand why. For really uncomfortable. And I looked around.

And I realized it was all white faces I was looking at. And it's the first time I'd experienced that in 12 years. I was like wow.

It just seemed weird. Because I was used to. Being.

The majority. The minority sometimes. Sitting on a bus and maybe there'd only be like three.

Three white people. And I didn't care I didn't didn't absolutely didn't. Get used to it.

But then to be the other it's like wow this is weird. Too many honkeys. Too many.

Too many white honkeys. Get out. What are you doing.

Right. Hold two seconds. Anyway I just had a phone call there.
